Choose the G6 for Mothers Day, sell it sealed, get an OP3T AND a pair of Manolo Blahniks...Whoa there's a lot of cool stuff in there! Thank you for posting this video here.
I can't wait to know more about this phone. I'm still interested in the OnePlus 3T, too. But lack of any kind of water resistance on that phone concerns me because I am someone who hates to use umbrellas and I own a pool, which has already claimed one Apple Pencil. Fortunately that was not my fault, or I'd never hear the end of it.
I like the crazy elongated display on the G6 and what you can do with it. I don't often use split screen much because it hardly seems worth it on my conventional displays. I could see myself doing so with this phone, no problem.
I know the S8 is going to have a long display and a lot of great specs and features and so many people are saying wait for S8, that will ground the G6 into dust. I'm just not feeling it yet, for some reason. I don't know why. Maybe it's my natural inclination to root for the underdog, and I'm slightly put off there's no 835's left for the little guys after Samsung and Sony got them all. Which would be kind of stupid of me, given that I'm an Apple fan and Apple is the hoggiest hog ever, and I used to think that was damned smart of them. So I'm not sure that's it.
Maybe I'm just overloaded on Samsung overdosing me on specs and features and so many being smug about that and saying everyone else should just get out of the sandbox. Maybe I'm wary of the anticipated high cost. I'm not really sure.
Maybe I am just tired of rounded curvy wavy edges on phones. Maybe I'm tired of AMOLED. Lol...yes it's possible to be tired of AMOLED and edges when they're hyped to death for the upcoming iPhones. I already have them and honestly can't see the big deal of AMOLED, except for VR. If they are more power efficient, I can't tell because my iPhones get way better battery life than my Samsungs. It's kind of a draw between my HTC and Samsungs.
I know folks are furious about the regional differences LG is implementing and feel snubbed and that feeds into the anti G6 sentiment. I felt that way at first, too, and I do think there's no way around the fact the European friends are getting a raw deal. But reading more about it, I know now that wasn't LG's intention. They are maybe just caught in a tough place trying to keep prices reasonable without sacrificing too much of their margins, and maybe making some penny wise pound foolish decision as a result. Or not, maybe they're right. Time will tell.
At any rate, there is a cool "get back to basics, get down to business" vibe about this phone that gets to me. I just need to get a few more questions cleared up when the finalized retail version reviews come out.
For instance, so far every preview I've seen on the pictures this phone takes suffer from blown out highlights. Is that going to be an Achilles heel for this phone?
How does it work at actually being a phone?
I've also read some not so great things about past LGs having GPS and Bluetooth problems. Will that be an issue again with this model? Then there's the infamous bootloops...is that something they've grown their design and materials out of?
What's the mic like? Can it record stereo audio like the OnePlus 3T can?
And finally, what's the price? I am committed to my iPhone 7 Plus as my main phone for a full year. So I don't want to go hog wild on this little side journey.
My husband is willing to get this or the OnePlus 3T for me for Mother's Day. I'll have to sacrifice an iPad upgrade but he will give me his current IPad Pro when he upgrades. I only wanted to use a pencil anyway, my mini 4 is only a little over a year old and doesn't need to be cast aside anytime soon--nor was I planning to even if I'd gotten a pro model to do artwork on. So, not a sacrifice, actually.
Lol, sounds like a plan! But I am a jeans and tennis shoes or boots girl at heart. I just got a pair of work boots. They are hyped as "resistant to manure", which is really important given that I live out in the country, but still not too far from Washington DC.Choose the G6 for Mothers Day, sell it sealed, get an OP3T AND a pair of Manolo Blahniks...
South Korean carriers have kicked off pre-orders for the LG G6 ahead of the phone's official debut in the country on March 10. The device will retail for 899,800 won ($780), and LG is throwing in freebies worth 450,000 won ($390) with every order. Customers pre-ordering the device will receive a one-year screen replacement service, an original case, Tone Platinum HBS-1100 Bluetooth neckbuds, and a Rolly Keyboard 2 Bluetooth keyboard.
Throwing in freebies is a merchant custom in many Asian cultures and seems to have been extended to western customers on many occasions, so I can only hope.I hope all these freebies are offered in the US release!

G6 looks sharper and with better stabilization than the S7E. But has a worse white balance though.Throwing in freebies is a merchant custom in many Asian cultures and seems to have been extended to western customers on many occasions, so I can only hope.
I'm really excited about this phone. So far last night I found videos that support that it can do the kind of audio recording quality I like. Video quality looked good.
It's not going to win any spec wars against Samsung or Apple but I'm not expecting it to. I like it just the way it is, for what it is. It's not going to be my main phone so I can let some expectations slide.
Someday I might go back to one line and one phone. But I'm having so much fun I kind of wish I could have a third line! I'm not going to. But it's fun to wish for. These aren't even really phones anymore, they are handheld computers, and who doesn't love handheld computers, especially among those of us who grew up on Star Trek and Star Wars and other sci-fi universes.
In my own tests between my S7E and S7 (I test both to account for any quality control variances) and my iPhone 7 Plus, I have found the white balance of the Samsungs to be very inaccurate compared to that of the iPhone. I found it really noticeable in examining the way the cameras picked up the color of hardwoods in my house, with the Samsungs giving the floors a celery greenish to yellow tint to the floors and cabinets that actually changed their color completely from the reality. The iPhone 7Plus camera erred toward a slightly more rosy pink tint from reality, but it was so subtle as to not significantly alter the color of the floor.G6 looks sharper and with better stabilization than the S7E. One think I have learned from owning a Google Pixel XL is....a phone is more than the sum of it's parts. It's not going to win any spec wars against Samsung or Apple but I'm not expecting it to. i don't agree with that because why have the best "user experience" if there are no features to take advantage of? That just make a simple and boring phone to use.One think I have learned from owning a Google Pixel XL is....a phone is more than the sum of it's parts.
There are phones with more specs and features than my Pixel XL.....but it provides a better user experince for me than the other phones i have used. So the overall quality of a phone is not just the specs or features. It is the blend of software and hardware.
The verdict is still out for the G6 but it is not just about specs.....

When I use the Pixel XL.....I don't care if it doesn't have waterproofing or an SD Card like most flagship phones do. The user experience and overall ease of use more than makes up for it. Nougat and the Pixel hardware provides a great user experience I usually found on iPhones.i don't agree with that because why have the best "user experience" if there are no features to take advantage of? Don't worry because that will be inverted once the S8 is released.WOW! In my opinion.. the G6 literally wipes the floor with the S7 in that video! I find Samsungs oversampling to be too harsh in general. I don't have time to faff around with settings and use auto, so I need a good auto camera. Will be checking more out about the G6...

Nice video! That silver looks goodPretty impressed with attention to detail.
@mi7chy Yeah, judging from the comments made by the writers at Android Central who got a behind the scenes look at how the LG G6 was tested and why it was engineered the way it was, I think LG took a hard look at what went wrong with the Note 7 and vowed to avoid making the same mistakes. Plus LG has had plenty of failures of their own, like phones destroyed by bootloops. The failure of the LG G5 modular concept to catch on must have hurt. They went back to basics and tried to make a very sensible practical and safe phone. I think they realized the reputation of Korean workmanship was at stake.
Anyway I think I went through quite the journey from thinking this phone was DOA to feeling pretty enthusiastic about it.
[doublepost=1488579662][/doublepost]While the LG G6 fared well against the Samsung S7 camera in comparisons I've seen, it doesn't do quite as well against the iPhone 7 Plus on the rest shots taken by this reviewer. It's best to go to the links to the Imgur files he has posted under the video.
I've seen another review in which the IPhone 7 Plus produces videos that are more stable with better OIS and white balance. The comments made about the G6's issues with auto white balance become more apparent (to me) when comparing the phone against the iPhone 7 Plus
Great point about the pre production units! You need to remember. Those iPhone 7's are all full retail units with possibly updated hardware since launch to resolve or improve on any issues and several software updates.
And ALL those LG G6's being tested are 'pre-production' units with unfinished and buggy software.
Something to keep in mind, we need to wait for the proper retail hardware and software to fully rely on any results.
