No doubt about actual hardships....but it's just weird. I called Apple this afternoon (2PM EST) and the rep. said he'd be surprised if I didn't get a shipping notice within 24 hours.

See thats where i get annoyed. What is the big secret with our shipment? Everyone who calls gets a different answer. Such a strange, strange way of taking orders.

I hope the info given to Cliffardo is right... Im getting Antsy :)

Jacksonville?? That's 2.5 hours from me....ohhhhh the temptation! But I scored a nice discount with both the Apple store on line and Amazon: $100.00 off w/Apple and $90.00 off w/Amazon with the gold box deal, plus no tax (which makes it a bit sweeter). I figure the first one who ships wins! :)
Looks like we have the opposite problem! if I drive to Jax I get it sooner (much sooner as my ship by date is 2/20 with Apple and delivered by March 27th with Amazon...although I realize this is just a blanket date, so who really knows), but then I lose the discount! If you drive to Jax, you get the discount...and maybe get it sooner to boot! Oh the dilemma!
 
for those who have shipped - has apple charged you? I had a temporary authorization back on the 19th for the laptop that disappeared. my mba was switched to prepared last night and shipped this morning with still no authorization for the money.

Same story here. I called the bank this morning to make sure everything was fine and they said yes. So...I suppose I'm just waiting for Apple...

Yeah...I need to hit the hay. This is just driving me nuts. I will be extremely upset if all of use early orders get ours the same day as later ones.....I will be especially upset is some people who ordered after us get theirs first...
 
Yeah there don't seem to be any rhyme or reason when Apple selects who ships and who don't. I am hoping for a surprise email when I wake up stating that the madness is finally over and the darn thing shipped!!

My MacBook Air shipping status

I ordered a MacBook Air immediately after the end of the keynote (from within the keynote hall at MacWorld, actually - thankful for an EVDO signal inside there). I went for the standard configuration and received a notice two days ago that the item was ready for shipment.

Last night, I received the shipping notice before going to bed, but like a few others, it missed the cutoff for the flight out of Shanghai and off to Alaska. I recall this same thing happening with my MacBook Pro order a few years ago.

I expect an update to my shipping status when I wake up tomorrow morning that the package is on its way to Alaska. Assuming there isn't a customs hold in Alaska, I should be getting my MacBook Air on Friday.

I'll post shipping updates here as they come in...

Has anyone who got shipping confirmation from Fedex seen that the package actually left Shanghai?

I'm still stuck at "Shipping Exception" which does not seem to bode well at all.

Thats why I said before that this is probably the worst pre-order that apple has ever done. And I dont say this because they are taking long to ship, but because of their vague answers and unprecise ship and delivery dates. Is it that difficult to give a reason? What is the big secret?

Never pre-ordering again from the apple store in my life.

If it hits the store on Friday I might just cancel my order and buy it then.
(I predict MASSIVE cancellations this friday).
