On top of that, you’d have to open it up for any significant interactions with the device anyway - that in my opinion was amongst the reasons why flip phones ultimately disappeared from the mainstream market.

Absolutely. And that is why they will never become mainstream again (along with how thick they are).

Apples and oranges. No one cares about naming traditions for iterative software updates. Flagship hardware on the other hand?

Same - the world didn’t stop spinning with iPhone 4 or 6 - and for both numbers we can find plenty groups being scared about. Apple doesn’t care, thank god.

And the iPhone 12/13 isn’t the flagship either - that’s the Pro models.

I've watched it, what am I missing?
Sorry, forgot you've been living under a rock. It's this little idea where you can open your phone with a mask on. You know, something a lot of people desperately want and Apple may actually be giving it to us... Maybe. But possibly not. Let's hope so though, because unlike you, most people aren't fine with unlocking their phone 50 times a day with their passcode.
And if we do get it, I'll enjoy watching it as a main segment in the Keynote or perhaps even as the One More Thing!

They already did that with the Apple Watch.

"Most people".

I'm out, this bad habit you have of over-exaggerating things is getting in the way of sense.

Haha. love it. Your passcode comment was exactly that!
Just because you don't think it's a big deal, doesn't make it so. Besides, you're wrong and you'll be proven wrong.
Anyway, it's all just for sh*ts and giggles, but after you prior snarky comment, please don't don't reply to me again.
Au revoir!

I try to avoid the first version of anything and don't need the early adopter show effect. So I always aimed for the 13 instead of the 12 as they might have had to rush things during the initial covid supplier chaos? Not sure. This is why I am happy with what the 13 looks like especially the bigger battery. I have no practical need for 5G until now. Including touch ID would have been nice in times of mask wearing.

Currently have a iPhone X was gunna get the 12 but thought I would wait one more year. iPhone X still works great but poor camera quality unless optimal light conditions. Really excited to get a better camera!

Of course it won’t be. Why would you expect it to be? For most people there’s no reason to upgrade from any currently supported iPhone model, Much less a brand new one.

I still have a XS and I was holding out for the 12 and then I felt like it wasn't really a need to upgrade so I said wait for the 13 and now I am not sure I even need a 13. My XS is still perfectly fine and the battery is still in good health.

My old 8+ is having battery problems, it is probably time to upgrade to a 12 when they start selling the 13 models.
Will they keep selling 12’s after announcing 13’s..I forget their format but you might want to grab a 12 now before announcements if they do…maybe an 11

I have a potentially buyer for my 12 Pro so I will se what the 13 is like. If it’s not a huge jump I will stay with my 12 Pro if not I will sell the 12 Pro and go for a 13 Pro Max. That I have bought the 12 Pro instead of the 12 Pro Max was a mistake. When I would have the 12 Pro Max I wouldn’t consider the upgrade but with the 12 Pro and it’s poor battery life I “have to”.

I have a 12 mini but will probably get a 13 mini. I know it will not be a major upgrade, but I very much want a smaller notch and better battery life. Also, I love the smaller size, and since this is rumored to be the last one they make in this size, I'll probably hold on to the 13 mini for years (I've done everything from a 1 year to a 4 year upgrade cycle in the past).

X ist here, new battery this year. No compelling reason to upgrade…. I’ll probably be forced once no more cases are available 🤣

If the rumors were true, that sunset gold and rose gold are SEXY.

Just glanced at the article and wow the author's ignorant if they actually think the iPhone 6S was an "insignificant" upgrade over the iPhone 6... (it's CPU & GPU were almost twice as fast, whereas the 6 was only about 30% better than the 5S)

In fact, "S" upgrades in general tend to be some of the most significant upgrades in terms of internals, performance and sometimes even cameras (4S, 5S, 6S)... you know the things matter if you keep your phone for more than one year 🙄.
I'm still happily on an XS today and see little need to upgrade unless I can snag something for an absolutely amazing price this holiday season.

Not easy to find new hardware features these days and Apple has diverted its attention to other categories plus Johnny Ives left so redesigns of the iPhone are few and far in between , unfortunately

upgrading every year (especially the S years) is not needed unless you have enough amount in your bank account and you want the latest and greatest for your business. You will notice very minimal changes.
