I don't have an Apple Silicon Mac to test new code with.

For reading DPCD, AllRez does 16 bytes at a time only from addresses known to have DPCD data that can be parsed. If there's an MST hub, then there's some extra logic to do the same recursively for down stream nested MST devices. Some adapters may represent themselves as part of an MST hub. This code should be able to get capibilities of the MST hubs and adapter.

All right, no problem, one of these days I'll try to dig deeper and will share if find something.

Can confirm that this Cable Matter Adapter is the best from this Brand, I tested all of them 8k Adapters:

It can do 4k@120hz 4:2:2
Alan Spiegel does get with this Adapter RGB 4k@120hz, dont know how they can reach this. This Adapter has an VIA Billboard:

VIA Chip is only for the USB 2.0 billboard device. It has no relation to the DisplayPort to HDMI PCON.

USB can only show info about the USB 2.0 billboard device.
To get info about the DisplayPort to HDMI PCON, you need a dump from DisplayPort DPCD. You can get that from Linux on an Intel PC. For an Intel Mac, you can use AllRez. AllRez needs an update for Apple Silicon Macs.
Yes but they do not give us informations what they are using. If Allrez will work with M1 it can be a Game changer! Waiting for Steves Information when they get more infos about it.

Not complaining, just an observation: while 120Hz definitely feels leaps and bounds beyond what my LG C1 looked like @60Hz, I can't shake the feeling that the UI in macOS doesn't feel as fluid as, let's say Windows 11 on my main rig. Anyone else make that comparison? And am I beating a dead horse here (e.g. miss something in this thread)?

Edit: I should add/clarify that this doesn't just apply to Windows - before I upgrade to an NVIDIA GPU, I was running a Hackintosh system with Ventura using a AMD 6900 XT and that one felt just as good as Windows (in terms of fluidity of the UI, scrolling etc. @120Hz).

I am using both Windows and macOS with the same 4K display (Windows at 144Hz, macOS at 120) and both are fluid. It is important to use the right accessories with macOS (basically the only thing that provides smooth windows movements and scrolling for me is the magic mouse as Apple uses some clever interpolation with it or did something with it so it works well - any third party mouse is horrible especially over bluetooth, but you can probably do better with a gaming mice with a high polling rate and USB connection).

I does only work with the separate Apple Magic Track Pad, dont use over 3 Years a Mouse in Daily usage! Only at Gaming a Mouse is needed :=)

Tbf I used a regular mouse over 2.4Ghz (Razer) and it felt just as fluid/intuitive as Windows on my 12900k/6900 XT Hackintosh :). So to say that only the Magic Trackpad should work is a bit of an exaggeration...

... and to add to that, you were absolutely right: using a my Razer everything is JUST as smooth. Cheers, guys - mystery solved :D

Sure,

But I donw know why it says BILLBOARD

...

I never updated its firmware
Could you maybe share some screenshots of what the EDID settings look like in AW EDID? Also see that you're also using a second monitor. Are you using the your C1 with the lid of your Macbook opened or closed?

I tried to get this working using the same adapter with lg c2 on mbp m1 max, but cant even get 4k120.

I'm still on monterey, is ventura required?
Did you edit the EDID? Because I'm using the same adapter as well and have no problem getting 120Hz (although 4:2:2) on my MB M1 Max and C2.

I did edit the EDID ( screenshot shows DP-DP ). Are you on ventura?

So, just got my Cable Matters 201388-GRY USB-C to HDMI 2.1 adapter (no update on the adapter, straight out of the box) and I can confirm that after editing and uploading the EDID over Better Displays, 120hz does work on a M1 Mac Mini and HDR also works or at least I can turn it on. I'm not sure how else I can make sure that it does in fact HDR. If anyone needs more info, please let me know, I'd be more than happy to help! Maybe we can still improve on the image quality heading towards 4:4:4 or 4:4:2

Anyone thinks I should update the adapter to get an even better chroma subsampling?

GOOD NEWS GUYS !!

Plz all u if u have an VMM7100 installed. If yes u can use this Firmware to get 4:4:4 4k@120hz 8b Without the need of editing a EDID !! Plz test and share ure results :)

Installer and tutorial is inside the zip !!

New CUSTOM Firmware Name is: Spyder_fw_USBC_CM_7.02.130forMac.fullrom

Hopefully a 10b solution will come next days !!
How can u test if u have an VMM7100 ?? Open the updater, it will show u the information!
U need a Windows Machine with USB C for the updater!

After flash the ROM, delete old EDID Stuff(Restore factory defaults) and reconnect the Adapter. Then change resultion from 4k@60hz to 4k@120hz 2 times, then it switched to 4:4:4 !

EDID Export of my LG 42 C2 when this Adapter is connected, u can test this EDID also on another Adapters if u want !!

EDIT: Plz follow this Thread:

Hm didn't work for me with the Cablemod USB C to HDMI 2.1 cable (Cable one comes with 7100, adapter comes with 6100) and my c9? Max resolution at 120hz is 1280x720. Am i missing something?

Or do I need another adapter? Which ones come with VMM7100?

Is this firmware compatible with any adapter/dongle/cable with VMM7100? Or only for the ones from Cable Matters?

I flash this to an Anker Adapter with VMM7100 and it works ! It's really nice 120hz now with 4:4:4 8bit. I think RGB will be not as much difference now.

Yes I'm aware the Cablematters USB c to HDMI cable comes with 7100, it shows in the tool as well. I'm guessing this cable is a no go

This Adapter with VMM7100 can be upgraded with the Firmware I posted before to get 4:4:4 4k@120hz 8b

I think any VM7100 can be upgraded with this Firmware like I did on an Anker Adapter!
But no guarantee !! I ordered again this Adapter to test this Firmware also with them!!

There is a problem, the "quick brown fox" pangram lacks "S"
