You're the Man, AironMan. Ordered the Anker from Amazon here for $50.
Applied your firmware file using my Lenovo Legion 7 laptop=PROFIT
No need for EDID or 3rd party apps, I've got 4:4:4 4K120. I did have to switch to 60/120 twice to get it to work at 444 though. Not sure why, but mad props to you.
Yes I also have to switch 1 time, i think its because of Sync the Bandwidth/Transfer Lines. Really nice that it also works on your side !! Thanks too ! 4k@120hz 4:4:4 feels and looks really nice, yes ? :)

Shows nothing under any of the TB/USB4 entries... wth haha, it is connected as I am writing this. Because of my modified EDID or should it not matter?

Can u start the Firmwaretool and show us Adapter Informations when clicking on Firmware version?
U need a Windows Machine with USB-C for that.

And can u plz upload ure EDID which u used to get RGB 10b 4k@120hz ?

Hello, this is my basic modified EDID i always upload for testing on my C1

I dont have a windows machine with usb-c, can i do it with parallels & windows 11 arm ?

We need to know how @Alan Spiegel managed to get RGB chroma using the Cable Matters adapter and only editing the EDID. I have the same adapter, an M1 Mac Mini and an LG C2, and I only get YCBCR422 8b 4L10, which isn't really ideal since the quality is pretty bad.

I wonder if @Alan Spiegel could upload his firmware from his Cable Matters adapter and we could try flashing it?

Idk if it makes a difference but the CX has 40 Gbps HDMI ports while the C9/C1/C2 have 48?

I have been following this thread almost daily for months now, it is amazing how far you guys have gotten us from having literally no hope to having it almost cracked. I made an account to thank you and try to contribute to it.

I also bought the CableMatters cable and, for what I can tell, it is a lottery, the same model can have a different chipset with some of them coming with the VM7100 and some with the VM6100.

In my case, I believe to have the same as @Alan Spiegel as my adapter also appears as USB 2.0 BILLBOARD by VIA Labs, Inc.

After connecting it to a Windows PC, I can confirm it comes with the VM6100 chip, I flashed the latest FW provided by @AironMan , however, I still get only 4:2:2.

I also have a CX and even applied the EDID just provided by @Alan Spiegel , nevertheless, still no joy.

I am considering the possibility that some TV settings are the key to finally getting this to work i.e: enabling Ultra HD Deep Color brings it from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2, @Alan Spiegel would it be possible to share all your picture settings on the TV side?

I have double check all the settings of my C2, but could not find any interesting in there, maybe I'm not looking hard enough, so, anything is possible. We will call for @Alan Spiegel's help here I guess.

GOOD NEWS GUYS !!

Plz all u if u have an VMM7100 installed. If yes u can use this Firmware to get 4:4:4 4k@120hz 8b Without the need of editing a EDID !! Plz test and share ure results :)

Installer and tutorial is inside the zip !!

New CUSTOM Firmware Name is: Spyder_fw_USBC_CM_7.02.130forMac.fullrom

Hopefully a 10b solution will come next days !!
How can u test if u have an VMM7100 ?? Open the updater, it will show u the information!
U need a Windows Machine with USB C for the updater!

After flash the ROM, delete old EDID Stuff(Restore factory defaults) and reconnect the Adapter. Then change resultion from 4k@60hz to 4k@120hz 2 times, then it switched to 4:4:4 !

EDID Export of my LG 42 C2 when this Adapter is connected, u can test this EDID also on another Adapters if u want !!

Does an update for that one exists, too?

It has the 7100, but it doesn't output anything at all anymore when using that firmware.

It didn't work for me either, that's why I ended up buying the Anker. It's still much much cheaper to continue using my M1 stuff than upgrading them to M2 just to get 4K/120

Yeah, I'll probably get that one, too, now. The cable matters adapter seems to be the nicer one, though. 15-20€ cheaper and has an extra PD port. I don't really need that, but still nice to have.

The bandwidth is never 48 Gbps or 40Gps, This is only the Bandwidth of the HDMI 2.1 Port. DP Transportstream is Limited to about 32 Gbps. The VMM6100 Adapters has not enough Bandwith for 4:4:4 4k@120hz without DSC, CableMatters confirm that! Only VMM7100 can reach 4k@120hz 4:4:4

@stevemr123 look at that, this is an Log getting from Anker with custom Firmware! But its on an Surface Mini 2.

My type-C to HDMI2.1 dongle only has a Realtek RTD2173 chip, which I think is DP1.4 to HDMI2.1. I guess this won't have a chance to work?

Ive just fixed the sound by complete chance - I plugged in a an active Club3D display port to HDMI adapter and then removed mu 8k HDMI cable and plugged it into the HDMI 2.1 port on my GPU leaving the Club 3D still plugged in and VOILA! Sound through the TV via HDMI and 4k@120hz on a 2010 MacPro and RX6600XT!!!! FINALLY Tru Motion Scrolling on my 48inch OLED and Mac OS!!!!
All that, and yet I can see the pixels themselves in your photos. Bleh.

Plz dont destroy all ure Adapters when Flashing things. Before ure Flashing the Custom Firmware, make a Backup of ure own!!

Still only getting the 720p option on the anker with the custom firmware :(, maybe it doesnt play as nice with the C9? I'll be getting a C2 soon so I'll test with that when I get it

So I’m hoping we can get the whole 120hz with 4:4:4 figured out soon. But I’m just dropping in here because I can’t find the solution online and you all know so much.

Should 4:4:4 10bit be possible at 60hz? I have a LG c2 42 inch but am only getting 4:4:4 8bit with HDR off. Turning on HDR takes it down to 422. I am using HDMI to HDMI. Would using usb c to hdmi fix the issue? Any other settings I should have on or off on Mac/tv?

You know there is no definitive answer for that as much of that depends on the cable/adapter you’ll be using, your monitor/telly etc. and we are sort of in the middle of figuring all of that out ourselves still haha… AironMan has been doing a lot of research but we aren’t quite there yet I’d say

For adapter is basically HDMI to USB C (maybe this is a problem)

For me sleep issues only happened on a macbook connected to two monitors if connect only GP27U its wake up just fine, mac studio works fine

Now using a good HDMI cable by belkin now I'm able to do 4k 144hz on cooler master GP27U

Cable: https://www.belkin.com/th/AVC012bt2MBK.html
Also cable seems to be VM7100 and still works
