I got the anker adapter with VMM7100, but I still can't get the firmware tool to open. Just gives an error "Can not find Synaptics MST SP Hub IC". This is with the adapter connected to a display on a Dell laptop.

Anyone else have this issue? OR can I ship you my adapter to flash it? lol

I’ve ordered the Anker adapter plus proper HDMI 2.1 cable… two questions:

1. Will the EDID reset function under settings in BetterDisplay suffice before plugging in the new adapter?

2. From what I understand, the Anker adapter doesn’t need a firmware update (though will of course still need a modified EDID), correct?

Thanks and have a nice weekend!

you need to let the display connect to the adapter

Now using a good HDMI cable by belkin now I'm able to do 4k 144hz on cooler master GP27U

Cable: https://www.belkin.com/th/AVC012bt2MBK.html
Also cable seems to be VM7100 and still works

@zeemyself - Nice! Btw, I have a GP27U as well - they just released the promised new v1.2 firmware for it finally.

@AironMan - just to clarify (if there was a confusion), @steve123 in this thread is not me - we two just have a similar macrumors nickname. :)

So I’m hoping we can get the whole 120hz with 4:4:4 figured out soon. But I’m just dropping in here because I can’t find the solution online and you all know so much.

Should 4:4:4 10bit be possible at 60hz? I have a LG c2 42 inch but am only getting 4:4:4 8bit with HDR off. Turning on HDR takes it down to 422. I am using HDMI to HDMI. Would using usb c to hdmi fix the issue? Any other settings I should have on or off on Mac/tv?
Yes u can use 4:4:4 4k@60hz 10b HDR with many adapters. When u change the EDID to DP they can do 4:4:4 10b 4k@60hz without any problems.

You know there is no definitive answer for that as much of that depends on the cable/adapter you’ll be using, your monitor/telly etc. and we are sort of in the middle of figuring all of that out ourselves still haha… AironMan has been doing a lot of research but we aren’t quite there yet I’d say
The Main Problem is that M1 (with our Adapters) do not let us getting DSC to getting 4:4:4 4k@120hz 10b HDR because we let MacOS known we have an DP there and the TV thinks we have en HDMi there so DSC can not been activated. I dont know, probably @stevemr123 can enable this ?? :) The another thing ist, cable length. I think this is also important to get this high Bandwidth to the TV! Theres also no Certification of this Adapter that let us 100% know they can reach this bandwidth stable! Only TB4 give us 100% Certification getting 40Gbits an so enough for DP 1.4 32 Gbps.

The HDMI Cable has also been connected to your monitor !!

U have to use the custom Firmware i posted before ! U have to clear all EDID overrides coming from BetterDisplay

@AironMan thanks buddy, using the Cables Matter upgrader/flasher right? Any chance you could post the FW once more?

I am gonna save it on my icloud folder for when my adapter and cable arrive…

This is not possible without DSC compression.

Can it be possible that the GP27U can better handle DP-Transportprotokoll because is has a native DP, so that MacOS and DP-Alt works better and DSC are enabled ? @stevemr123 sorry for often named, but ore the man that can figure that out haha :-D

Iam thinking about that: Because we let MacOS known we have an DP there and the TV thinks we have an HDMi there so DSC can not been activated or Sync.

I think the GP27U can use native DP Input over HDMI and enable DSC for DP where an only HDMI TV can not do that because it has not the capabilities for that.

Are 4k 120hz OLEDs working ok with the M2 Pro? I assume so because of HDMI 2.1 port. It can be hard to follow this thread, but it looks like it concerns getting 120hz on older versions of the mac mini.

This has nothing to do with getting full 120hz 4k performance on the new M2 Pro mini, correct?

Correct we are only trying to get 4k 120 at 4:4:4 working on the m1 through adapters.

M2 pro already works at 4k 120 4:4:4 10b using the HDMI 2.1 port

GOOD NEWS GUYS !!

Plz all u if u have an VMM7100 installed. If yes u can use this Firmware to get 4:4:4 4k@120hz 8b Without the need of editing a EDID !! Plz test and share ure results :)

Installer and tutorial is inside the zip !!

New CUSTOM Firmware Name is: Spyder_fw_USBC_CM_7.02.130forMac.fullrom

Hopefully a 10b solution will come next days !!
How can u test if u have an VMM7100 ?? Open the updater, it will show u the information!
U need a Windows Machine with USB C for the updater!

After flash the ROM, delete old EDID Stuff(Restore factory defaults) and reconnect the Adapter. Then change resultion from 4k@60hz to 4k@120hz 2 times, then it switched to 4:4:4 !

EDID Export of my LG 42 C2 when this Adapter is connected, u can test this EDID also on another Adapters if u want !!
I did everything the same and I still cannot get anything to work. I am still stuck on 60hz. I had the VMM7100 cable and updated the firmware on the cable and verified it. I have an LG C2 42inch with a MacBook Pro 16inch M1Max updated to ventura 13.2.1.

I deleted the old EDIDs too.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a setting on the TV? It is on game optimizer and I've set the input to PC on the TV.

I would settle if someone could just tell me how to just get 444 10bit HDR 60hz(can only get 8bit no HDR or 420 HDR) working.

Ok so a little bit of progress. Idk what I did but I am able to get 120hz now but I still am not getting 444. I am getting ycbcr420 8b 3l6. Any ideas on how to get 444?

@Avacadoco, I had to switch to 60hz and then 120hz to get it to show 444. Hope that helps. I received the Anker adapter and flashed the firmware today. I did not work until I did that. However, I have to do this every time my Mac Studio M1 Max comes back from sleep, otherwise it's back to 420. My TV is the 48CX.

I switched it like 20 times :(. Unplugged, tried different ports everything.

However I am using the cable matters usb c to hdmi cable with the updated firmware. What setup are you using? An anker adapter with an hdmi 2.1 cable?

I was using the cable matters adapter at first but I had the 6100 hardware and I never got 444. I bought the anker usb c to hdmi adapter recommended here and got it to work on 444.

can confirm that the customized firmware works on c2 and M1 Mac mini via Anker Adapter (VMM7100). Thank you very much @AironMan ;):). After getting 444 8bit 4k 120hz, I have been trying to force YCBCR 444 into RGB at 8b 4k 120hz. However, none of existing FORCE-RGB methods works in my case. I have tested two methods so far, including fisher in terminal and EDID on betterdisplay, which previously worked at 4k 8bit 60hz TM with my C to HDMI 2.0 cable. But no luck now.

What is further interesting is that, with the original firmware that comes with the Anker Adapter, I can get RGB 10bit 4k 60hz by changing EDID on betterdisplay. However, after flashing the adapter with the customized firmware, I can never get RGB 10bit 4k 60hz anymore. When switching to 60hz, I can get only 420 4k 10bit. it seems that the customized firmware somehow disrupts 444 or RGB 10bit 4k 60hz output. I think it is a choice between 444 8bit 4k 120hz and RGB 10bit 4k now.

It would be awesome to somehow involve the creator of BetterDisplay in this whole process, his knowledge/insight might be invaluable and certain settings could perhaps be baked right into BetterDisplay

Interesting. I have never achieved 10 bit so far on my c2, but would you prefer 10bit color or 120hz?

I’m mostly using it for desk work and 120hz is nice, but honestly 60hz is fine if the colors are that much better?

10bit vs 8bit doesn’t have anything to do with text clarity right? It’s just the chroma sub sampling that’s important, i.e. 444?
