Looks like it's a matter of freight being backed up at the Hong Kong airport, which is not such bad news, especially if Hong Kong continues with the easing of Covid measures that it started last Thursday. The rest of the events that you show went quickly, including what looks like it may be a customs clearance.

Seems like production of 10-core Max chips is moving fast (sorry Ultra folks). My order is scheduled to arrive a month early! And of course, I’ll be out of town.
I’m not too worried about WWDC announcements since it would make no sense for a new M2 Mac Mini to gain all of the stuff I care about (RAM, storage, USB ports), be significantly faster, and be cheaper.

Even if the Max in my signature arrives a month early, any WWDC announcements will happen within my 14 day return period. I'm interested in the next Mac Pro, but as a practical matter the odds of me buying, if it's announced, are very slim :)

My order just moved to the ‘Preparing to Ship’ stage. It’s still slated to arrive by the 29th, so I guess we’ll see how things go from here. (Standard Ultra configuration - 20/48/64GB/1TB, ordered March 10th)
Well, it just went from ‘Preparing to Ship’ to ‘Arrives Wed April27’ (tomorrow). A label had been created for the parcel, but no tracking info is available yet.

You ordered a few days after I made the order in my signature. Recent posts suggest that it's possible that my Max, and yours, will ship about a month early. However, based on those same posts I don't expect to see any change in delivery window until Apple is ready to ship. I don't think that Apple is sending updates about where people are in the queue.
I don’t expect we will see an update until just before shipping. Would be great to see it come early but I’m not holding out hope so I’m not letdown. We’ll find out very soon

Part of me is wondering if the earlier deliveries have a bit to do with different-than-expected yields. The rarer processors are the ones with more cores and memory. What I'm thinking is, it's possible that poorer than expected yields mean that there are more than expected 'lower end' chips and the same or fewer 'higher end' chips and therefore the 'lower end' the chip, the faster the delivery velocity.

I'm not exactly sure what constitutes a chip being more rare than another, there is likely more than one factor, but you can chop up a maxed out Max down to a lower specc'd chip but you can't 'add' to one that didn't fab that way.

A more enterprising person might set up a form to capture this so we can see likelihoods over time . . .
The 32 gpu max and 64 gpu ultra chip require a perfectly printed chip. It’s a harder process to produce than most might imagine. The chips that are not printed perfectly become eligible for the other models. This is why base models of the max and ultra (lessor so) are able to be fulfilled quicker. If the chip comes out perfect they are reserved for the higher gpu models. Otherwise, those that meet the minimum requirements but not prefect, are moved to fulfillment of the other models.

I'm skeptical that that theory explains what's happening. In the U.S., base Maxes are readily available from Apple stores, but stock of base Ultras has dropped to a trickle. The 12 NY City stores haven't had one for three weeks, and a quick search yesterday showed that none of another 120 stores checked across the country had one in stock. Until about three weeks ago, stores were getting base Ultras in smaller quantities than Maxes, but regularly.

On shipping of built to order Mac Studios, I haven't seen a correspondence between memory or cores and deliveries. The posts show that people are getting delivery, in some cases early, of both Maxes and Ultras with all memory and core configurations.

If interested, this thread shows what's going on with supply at U.S. Apple stores and Apple resellers (Costco, Best Buy, B&H, Adorama, Microcenter): https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-be-available-for-pickup-on-march-18.2337388/

As far as I can see, the various theories about constraints on supply, apart from the obvious fact of Covid measures in China, are just speculation.

Adding a data point to those whose packages are or had been stuck in Chek Lap Kok (best place name):

Mine stopped there for about 5 days and just showed up in Taiwan over night with a new delivery date of 2 days from now. I doubt it's 100% consistent but seems to be floating around 4-6 days backlog time there. From past experiences with UPS and their status messages, I wouldn't pay too much attention to the messages that don't update the location or their order to try to figure anything out. It's gonna be in Chek Lap Kok for a while then be someplace else. Where & when the customs cleared message shows up seems really random.

Mine is in Chek Lap Kok so I'm not putting to much stock in the Friday delivery date. I'll expect the timing to be more realistic one it moves.

Mine recently arrived in Chek Lap Kok and I requested that UPS delay delivery since they said it was going to be delivered when I wasn‘t available. I guess the delay I requested was already built in!

I had two UPS shipments that were going to be delivered and left on my doorstep while I was in another state, so I paid 10 bucks each to have the deliveries delayed 2 days until I got home... They delivered them on the original date anyway. I was pretty annoyed. I'd lose my mind if they did that with a new $4000 Mac!

Just landed in Kentucky, let's go!

Oh forgot to mention, this arrival which is almost certain to be Thursday now given it's in the US is earlier than the original prediction. Originally I was given an estimate of May 5th to 11th. So that's at least a week early. Not bad. And if I wasn't champing at the bit I never would've noticed the lag time in HK.

Mine’s the exact same build as yours! Even more evidence that I can cancel my rescheduled delivery request…there’s evidently no need for it!

Reading back through the thread, there seem to be a lot of instances of Mac Studios arriving ahead of the predicted date. I ordered a base Mac Ultra with 2Tb SSD yesterday so it's a BTO option - I know it's impossible to know for sure, but what are the chances of it arriving ahead of the 20th July date they've given me?

if you upgraded the RAM, it’s more likely to arrive late than early or on time.

My read of the posts differs from this. It appears that deliveries are happening within the original window or before, increasingly before. Deliveries that are late appear to be due to UPS/DHL freight delays rather than computer assembly delays.

I'm waiting for an Ultra 20/48/64GB/1TB, ordered on March 16. The status is still "processing". The delivery window has remained constant at May 3–May 11 since I placed the order. I guess by now there is no chance that it will arrive near the beginning of the delivery window. I just hope it will arrive some time before May 17, because I'll leave the country on that date and be away for several weeks.

Apple sticks with the original delivery window until it's ready to ship. It isn't using these windows to tell people where they're at in the queue.

Original order March 16 (Studio Max 10/24 64GB 4TB) It sat at the Hong Kong airport for five days and then flew to Taiwan. From there it was amazingly quick. It left China, flew to Anchorage, AK, then to Louisville, KY, from there it went to Lansing, MI. It has departed Lansing and is scheduled to be delivered today! Yesterday it was in Taoyuan, Taiwan, and today it will be delivered, halfway around the world to my house in a day. I'm amazed! I called Apple yesterday to see if my AppleCare plans could be adjusted to start on the same day, since my Studio Display was delivered on April 17. After about ten minutes of research, I was told it wasn't possible. I ordered a Logitech MX Master 3 mouse directly from Logitech at a 15% discount, and that will be delivered today also. Looking forward to a fun day!

Your post, post #3027 above and other recent posts suggest that there's a significant freight backlog at Hong Kong airport, presumably due to Covid measures. Hong Kong measures are being relaxed, so perhaps processing at Hong Kong will start happening faster.

Mine has moved from Hong Kong to Taiwan, with UPs still saying delivery tomorrow. I don't think that's physically possible. It will be the second UPS oops on this order, following 2 or 3 on the first Studio. The Apple estimate is for next, Tuesday May 3. Apple was more accurate than UPS last time and likely more accurate this time. You would think that UPS would have a tracking system that was at least somewhat accurate. . .
Now it is processing at the local UPS depot, so delivery will be today. After a 4 or 5 day wait in Hong Kong, things moved very quickly to Taiwan, Louisville and New York today. The Taiwan stop apparently included customs clearance and the shipment went directly from Taiwan to Louisville without the usual Anchorage stop.
