Don't know if it is right but this what I find ( sorry my MBA is in French ):

Version de la ROM de démarrage : 182.0.0.0.0

Version SMC (système) : 2.27f2

Do you think I have Firmware issues ?
The Air is running the latest bootrom and SMC.

Have you tried installing Win10 directly to a partition of the drive?

Another factor could be the higher temperature the new SSD drive runs at, especially under load. I know my 970 EVO runs hotter than the stock drive and that contributes to the reduced battery time.

That makes sense. the casing directly underneath the drive does seem hotter than usual. Is there anything I can do about this? Do you think the shorter sintech adapter would help?

The Samsung drives run at higher temperatures. A different adapter won't help.

I guessing that the higher temperature is because the Samsungs use more energy and also cause more battery drain.

I didn't try this possibility. Do you mean installing windows via a USB flash drive without the bootcamp of the mac ? Could you please advise on more details on this method ? Thanks

In the nvme thread for the MBPs, I read that a person used boot camp to create the NTFS partition, booted from the Win10 USB installer, and installed Win10 to the bootcamp partition.

What do you mean by "destroying"? If the nvme drive did corrupt the efi, the Macbook would not boot as far as I know.

Yes, thats true, after that macbook will show me only black screen and i need to reflash efi. Can i reflash efi from someone with last bootroom inside ? Is that possible ?

So you press the power button and you only get a black screen? No apple logo, question mark, or prohibited sign?
yes thats right, efi currupted after putting nvme drive

it like i put this drive i turn on from usb drive, see no ssd, restart macbook and it freeze on apple logo, after another restart dead black screen,

There have been many posts on this forum from people that have installed a nvme drive, including me, and never had this happen. Was the battery disconnected as soon as you removed the bottom cover?

How did you confirm your efi to be corrupted?

Doing the NVMe swap alone will not corrupt your efi. I have done this swap over several MBAs and my MacPro without any issues. My guess with your corrupted efi has to do with something you did using terminal commands relating to your "sleep" issue...

I decided to move my Samsung 970 EVO 500 GB drive to my gaming PC so I could take full advantage of the PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds (3500 MB/s read, 2500 MB/s write). I don't really need to worry about the additional heat or lesser battery life from the drive now. I ordered an ADATA SX6000 Pro 512 GB drive on Amazon that has close to the PCIe 2.0 x4 speed limitations of my MacBook Air. Hopefully this drive will do much better with battery life while still having the increased read/write speeds. I'll report back with my speeds and battery life difference once I get the drive installed and my backup restored to it.

I've had the ADATA SX6000 Pro 512 GB NVMe drive installed in my 2017 MacBook Air for a couple weeks now and I get decent drive performance for an $80 drive. Battery life still takes a hit. Can get a consistent 6.5 to 7 hours of continuous use. The Samsung 970 EVO was about an hour worse in terms of battery life, but had twice the sequential write speed of the ADATA drive. A shame Apple never put a PCI 3.0 x4 bus in the 2015/2017 Airs.

The hard drive in my Early 2015 Model Macbook A1466 mmggf2ll/a died on me the other day. Took it to two different repair shops and they confirmed the SSD was indeed dead. I'm on a really tight budget and looking for the cheapest 128/256GB drive + adapter combo to replace the factory SSD with and was wondering if any you in this discussion found any cost-effective solutions? I simply can't afford $100+ for a new drive at the moment but desperately need my MacBook for school and work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Where are you located? Was the air running high Sierra before the drive died?

eBay!

Here is a 128GB SSD that will work in your MBA ($65.99 and free shipping):

This one is a 256GB SSD that will work in your MBA ($120 and free shipping):

The 256GB SSD is priced just above your upper limit but if you could spare a few dollars you would have this instead of the 128GB but this is probably the best pricing you will find in a crunch.

Back and near to installing too a 970 Evo 500GB m2 MNVe (When I initially joined this forum - page 1 - the 950 was out which has less issues and less battery drain) to my MBA (2017). Having gone through almost all pages in the forum I would like to ask whether one can recap on the process as well as answer a few questions I have.

1. I have got the Sintech NGFF M.2 nVME SSD Adapter Card For Upgrade 2013-2015 MacBook (as no 2017 exists). Will this do fine - as per anyones experience

2.
(i) Do I need to revert back to HS instead of Mojave?
(ii) Once installed with the new SSD (samsung m2 in this case) can one update normally OS updates etc?

3.
(i) Can one use bootcamp with this SSD to run Win from the MBA?
(ii) Will any problems arise Re say if used with any software as Tuxera or so for writing on Win partition?

4. I have read about problems with firmware and EFI? Is there a way around these issues so that they are avoided (limit the prob of occuring)?

Q:
Could someone outline the whole process for installing the SSD (no need to describe hardware things) please?
The machine comes with its standard 128GB Mac SSD + I guess I also need an enclosure for this.
(Do I need to clone - can I fresh install)?

Any responses appreciated. Thanks again. Hope this is not too much of a request(s).

I am using the small green adapter and it works fine in a 2013 and 2015 Air with an Intel 600p nvme drive. Other people have used the same adapter with various drives, including the 970 Evo. I don't recommend the 970 Evo Plus as a couple of members have panics with this drive.

You can use Mojave. Make sure that the Air is running the latest bootrom which is 149.0.0.0 before installing the Samsung.

Yes, you can install OS updates normally.

The problems have to do with installing a nvme drive before the Air is running the latest ROM or kernel panics related to hibernation in the 2013 and 2014 Air.

Install the latest Mojave release onto the Air.
Create a TimeMachine or CCC image.
Remove bottom casing, disconnect battery, replace the drive, replace casing, boot from backup, and restore.

I also guess that the Evo performance cannot be actually seen on the MBA specs.
If I could get my hands on the 950 I would even get that one.

Thanks v much for this

Thanks Audit13. All the best and appreciate your time on the reply.

To anyone else wo can answer also the following I would also appreciate:

(ii) Will any problems arise Re say if used with any software as Tuxera or so for writing on Win partition?

Thanks again for everyone contributed on the forum!!
