i got this macbook without apple sdd, the seller told me that he updated this air with high sierra, im using PP3-8D256 from the begining
Just to confirm:

  1. you are using an early 2015 11" Air 7,1;
  2. the drive inside is a PP3-8D256 which looks like a LiteON nvme drive; and
  3. you upgraded to Mojave from High Sierra using the the PP3-8D256.
Open a terminal window and run "pmset -g". Look for the line "Hibernatemode" and it will probably be 25.

i have 0 there, should i change it for 25 ?

You don't want 25 until you solve the panic issue.

Try setting it to 3, restart, log in, close the lid, wait about 5 minutes, open the lid. Hopefully, no panics.

Still panic issue, needed to turn off macbook and turn it on again

The
re are only things I can think of that could cause the pnics: the drive or old bootrom.

Do you have a log from the kernel panics?

I do

Does the panic appear to be related to the hibernation?

The panics may be related to the bootrom or drive since people in this thread have disabled sleep and stopped the panics.

Ok i will get his nvme ssd next week first and i test this out, 256gb isnt enough for me, next step gonna be changing boot rom to 180

I'm running 182.0.0.0.0.

You may not have to install the original SSD to get an updated bootrom. When I installed the GM of Mojave, my Air was running the latest HS bootrom before and after installing 10.14. After updating to 10.14.1, the bootrom changed to 182.0.0.0.0 even though my Air was running the Intel 600p.

Currently my 2015 MBA bottom is MBA71.0176.B00

Looks like I will try reinstalling GM Mojave

I hope you are successful.

Good luck.

I was not successful in getting my bootrom updated. If I remember correctly you need to have a compatible SSD to use while updating the firmware then you can install the NVMe M.2 drive. When I reformatted my M.2 drive I reinstalled using Mojave OS 14.2 which has firmware update but I am wondering if I need to get my hands on the original Mojave GM install?

It may be that the MBA needs to be running the latest HS or GM Mojave bootrom?

Hi all, thanks for all the awesome info on aftermarket MacBook Air ssd upgrades! Before finding this thread, I upgraded my 11” i5 MBA from the original 128 SanDisk ssd to this WD black ssd https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C9H8MHD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 using this sintech adapter https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C9H8MHD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 .
Unfortunately, I experienced shorter battery life and daily kernel panics with the WD drive (doesn’t seem to be related to sleep). So I am looking to return the WD and get a different m.2 NVMe ssd. It seems like the ADATA XPG SX8200 is pretty highly recommended right now, but I’m also considering getting a SM/PM951 off of ebay. Based on some googling I did, it seems the SM/PM uses Samsung’s UBX controller, like the 950 PRO that has worked so well for Macdctr. I believe that this is also the same controller that is used in the Samsung OEM ssds used in some 2015 MBAs. With that in mind I’d love to hear others’ thoughts on which ssd (ADATA or SM/PM951) would we a better buy for battery life and stability.

Thanks in advance!

What's the model # for your 11" MBA?

Although the Samsung drives use the same controller as an original Apple drive, they won't be running Apple firmware so the MBA is going to treat as a nvme drive.

Have you looked at the panic logs to see what was causing these panics?

The model identifier is MacBookAir7,1. if there's another ID number you're talking about, I'm not sure how to find it.

I haven't looked at the panic logs (not exactly sure how) but I can look that up and report back.

The MBA would be an early 2015 11". I was asking because panics are not uncommon with non-2015 MBAs and MBPs because of hibernation.

So I looked at the panic logs, but I'm not sure what it means. Here is one of the logs.
