That's the latest bootrom.

I'm not sure why you are experiencing higher temps and battery drain since people in the Macbook Pro thread are reporting good battery life and temps with the sx8200. I doubt the adapter would influence these things since it is basically a passive device.

The only thing I can think after reading lots of threads is maybe my spotlight is indexing? I’m not sure how long that process takes but that’s the only other thing I can come up with.

Well it seems what ever was going on with my MBA has been resolved! It is back to normal temperatures and battery life.

Id like to report my experience so far doing the upgrade on my Macbook Air 2017. I ended up buying an ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512 GB since I couldnt get my hands on the 480gb others have been using. I was running MacOS Sierra, updated to High Sierra, cloned my original apple ssd 128gb with Carbon Copy Cloner to an external hard drive. I got the sintech short adapter recommended by Macdctr. It went in nicely, installing the drive was the easiest part of all. Finally I used the cloned drive on my external hard drive to clone to my new 512gb ssd.

I started off by experiencing long boot time. My original ssd would take 35 sec from hitting the power button to start my MBA until fully logged in (that includes the time to put my login password). With the new drive I was doing this in 1 min and 12 seconds. After going to Startup Disk, clicking the lock to make changes and selecting my drive it now boots in 37 seconds which is about what I originally had.

In regards to temperature and battery life, I have only been using it for 1 day but I feel no difference. Will report if anything changes in the future.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Since upgrading to the NVMe M.2 drive I too experience longer boot times but I think that is because the MBA is looking for the SATA drive first and tries to boot off of this before switching over to the NVMe drive. As far as I know, there is no way to select boot order like you do in BIOS on Windows machines.

Even after selecting the NVMe M.2 drive from System Preference Startup Drive, it seems to me that the MBA is still looking at SATA first before going to the NVMe drive.

Once the MBA locates the NVMe drive the boot process is fairly quick from that point onwards. For me the delay in boot time is a worthwhile tradeoff for improved drive performance and capacity.

Hello which ssd do u recommend guys atm ? Im thinking about ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512 GB like @volumax. Is there any other good choice ? I own macbook air 2015.

I have the Intel 600p in my early 2015 13" Air and the Apple logo and loading bar appear after a few seconds.

My Air is running the bootrom update included with Mojave 10.14.1.

Here's a post about power efficiency and speed: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...sd-to-m-2-nvme.2034976/page-109#post-26916379

The sx8200 Pro looks to be a good choice.

What is the bootrom you're running now? I suspect I will need to reinsert my original SSD into my MBA then update to High Sierra and do the firmware update then do the Mojave and associated firmware update to get my MBA to the most updated bootrom...

I'm running 182.0.0.0.0.

You may not have to install the original SSD to get an updated bootrom. When I installed the GM of Mojave, my Air was running the latest HS bootrom before and after installing 10.14. After updating to 10.14.1, the bootrom changed to 182.0.0.0.0 even though my Air was running the Intel 600p.

Where can i check my bootrom? Because i got like mba71.0176 is that it ?

It's under system report and that does look like the current bootrom.

The first 5 or 6 characters would identify the Mac model #. In this case, it would be MacBook Air 7,1 = early 2015 13" Air.
So i got very old bootroom than? 0176b00 ?

I suggest using the nvme drive and trying to install the latest release of Mojave.

A sierra bootrom is probably new enough to install Mojave. Hopefully, installing Mojave 10.14.2 will update the bootrom too.

im using PP3-8D256 atm, do u think this ssd is the reason why sleep isnt working on my air 2015 ?

What do you mean when you say sleep doesn't work?

Which OS are you running?

Thanks.

10.14.2 atm

when i close my lid, and w8 about 180 sec i cant wake it up opening it again with lid, i need press power button to shut i down and press it again

This is probably happening because the Air has a kernel panic when you open the lid. The only way to stop this would be to disable hibernation.

Is there any way to borrow an original Apple SSD to update the bootrom? Hibernation should work on the early 2015 and newer Air with a nvme drive but you need a newer bootrom. I have an early 2015 13" with an Intel 600p and it sleeps and wakes properly.

not rly, not

my ssd is not nvme, thats why im wondering this is the problem with sleep, and i need more space, thats why i wanna buy this 512gb adata ssd

You are using an original Apple SSD at the moment? How full is your drive?

i got this macbook without apple sdd, the seller told me that he updated this air with high sierra, im using PP3-8D256 from the begining

did some resarch, and i find out that 10.13 started support non apple nvme ssd, so i fine with it, i just wonder what causing this problem with sleep
