Thank you, found it. Then this is a bug right? Because the setting should only have influence when the MacBook is plugged in...

I believe it should receive traffic even on battery. But the energy impact should be negligible (at least 1% to 3% max discharge for 6+ hours of sleep).

Did you, folks, have any success with this issue? My girlfriend's brand new MacBook Air has lost more than 60% of its battery capacity in less than a day while sleeping. It's veeeery troublesome. :(

I ran the pmset -g log command and it looks like these assertions are waking up the Mac every 15 minutes or so:

Do you have any idea why mDNSResponder:maintenance keeps waking the Mac up? Why doesn't it affect any of my M1-MacBook-owner friends' machine, just my gf's? :)

I believe they turned off the "wake for network access" option in the battery settings.

One other person reported that they had to unplug a USB dongle/adapter as well or it would use power while sleeping, I believe.

Yep, that's turned off for her as well. And nothing is plugged into the machine.

Could it be a hardware issue? 😔

I don't think so. Probably just buggy firmware/sw. Give it a few days and see what happens.

Do a complete charge. Then shut down machine for a couple minutes. Then turn on again. Use normal and report back

Hmm, alrighty, will do! I'll report back tomorrow. :)
Perfect. Reason why is my m1 mbp wasn’t displaying screen usage no matter how many restarts or shutdowns I did.

Then I charged to 100% and shut down for 10 minutes and then turned on. Then finally it started working again.

worth a shot! Was driving me crazy...

Following are not the permanent solutions but try them out see if they have energy impact on your gf's MBA.

* Turn off "wake for network access" (I think you have already done this).

* Turn off "automatically download episodes" in Podcast, if your gf is using that. See if that solves the problem somewhat.

* Try switching off the wifi before putting the MBA to sleep.

* Try turning off iCloud services for the time being. Apple seems to be having problem with it. Though I think it should be solved by now. Still, it shouldn't hurt to try it.

That possibly reset the NVRAM

I'm sad to report back, that the issue still persists. The battery has lost 19% of its capacity last night. 😔

Wow, that is mine while screen is on. Something definitely using that computer in background. Chrome installed ?
We can test that malware claim if so ... :)
Nope, I've reinstalled macOS two days ago, and not a single 3rd party app is on that machine now, so I could properly debug the system.

Have you tried disable wifi before closing the lid? The "mDNSResponder" could be network / iCloud sync related.

Apple should just stop doing stuff while Mac is on sleep. They're doing it, to get more data from you.

Of course always on does need some power - but all the services must 'not' run.

The M1 system is always checking your home area.

Give it a try:
Day 1: Put your M1 to sleep and all other apple devices 'turned off' within your house
Day 2: Put your M1 to sleep and load Apple watch, iPhone, iPad, Homepod etc....

You can see it within the stats, that a 'lot' of stuff is being done on Day 2.

Don't like that!

It looks good to me. :)
try (within terminal.app):
Code:
ioreg -w 0 -f -r -c AppleSmartBattery

And check:
- "AppleRawMaxCapacity" = XXXX
- "DesignCapacity" = YYYY

Dive: X/Y and you have your real percentage > for me it's not the faulty number apple is presenting within it's system report.

"AppleRawMaxCapacity" = 4445
"DesignCapacity" = 4382

Well, that should not be the issue. :/
