In addition to the "static screen on wake" issue, has anyone else experienced a "corrupted mouse cursor" issue on their 13" MBPs?

I think it's whenever the "beachball" cursor is supposed to appear, I instead get a black & white mouse cursor that contains corrupted/stretched versions of other mouse cursors along with some static. It goes away after a full reboot but re-appears after some time.

Another issue I have seen is when watching Netflix in full screen mode. The screen will periodically turn green and the video will shrink to only occupying the top-left corner of the screen. Cycling out of full screen mode and back in will resolve it. It doesn't seem to happen with any other media players or websites - only Netflix - so maybe it's a bug with Netflix. But then again I haven't seen it on other Macs!

No, I have not had this issue, but I have had other graphical glitches on machine, like when shutting down once it had glitch and say it was charging and had 30% battery.... it had been unplugged and had 90% battery charge. Go figure. There are several bugs that I hope will be resolved in in the Mojave MacOS update.

I experience both of these issues. The green screeb only happens on YouTube for me, however. The cursor typically coincides with my whole screen being staticy.
I took my MacBook to the Apple Store today. The lady at the Genius Bar said all of these visual glitches also affects her MacBook but has never thought to report it. She said she’ll look into reporting it- although I’m sure engineering is already looking into it.

Have the same exact problem on a 2017 MacBook 12". Currently on High Sierra 10.13.5. Have sent to Apple twice and both times was told a software issue and they did a clean install. The problem still persist. After the 2nd clean install, instead of the full screen being grey/static/blue/pink dots, now its only the bottom-half. Weird.

My brand new 2017 13 inch MBP does this as well.

It only happens under High Sierra; when using Mojave it does not do this.

I'm not worried since it is obviously software related.

This is great news if they did fix it! If the beta is more stable I'd might download it as well.

same issue here, just bought MBP last week.
Is this issue has impact for the hardware or mac ios? or is that anything I should worry about to use it?

Hey guys, I just wanted to update all of you because I got a reply from the Apple Support. This is what they said to me:

"I have received information from my engineering team and yes they were able to determine it is a software issues that is currently under investigation and as soon as they have a solution it will be released in an mac os update. So at this point we do not need to repair or replace your MacBook Pro"

Thank you for the update! I am really hoping they have this fixed before the official release of Mojave.

Have you received your replacement computer? I had two separate replacement units and they all had the same issue. At this point I think it’s a waiting game for the software to be corrected. Not to be pessimistic, but after having three different MacBooks with the issue, I don’t think a hardware change will fix the issue. Make sure to let Apple know the issue is still there if the new one has it. Engineering needs to know this is a software issue, and simply replacing units isn’t fixing the problem

I was seriously debating on installing the beta to see if the issue was fixed, but you answered that for me. Ugh I wish it was fixed already.
[doublepost=1529623475][/doublepost]
We are all still waiting for that answer. My guess is we will be waiting at least til the Mojave update comes out in the fall. In my conversations with Apple they could never give me much specifics other than this is likely a software issue

I’m curious, if I turn in Power Nap while on battery if this will have the same effect. It’ll drain the battery faster, but the static might not keep occurring... which bugs me more, battery drain or a technical glitch... lol

Well that was a bust. Finally got the new computer up and running yesterday and it happened again, just now, on the new one. Also, a bug showed up in mail. Content doesn't display for some emails when I'm in classic view. Ugh!

Yeah High Sierra has been one of the worst with bugs. Now that the public beta is out for Mojave I may try it out. Worst case scenario if I need to I can go back to my time machine backups.

If I do do the beta, I’ll let you know if I see the issue still.

I’ll be looking forward to hearing ow it goes! I plan on downloading the Mojave beta tomorrow afternoon

Good luck! I installed on an external ssd to check it out. I need a Thunderbolt 3 cable to get the best out of it though, I think. I didn't want to risk the install *over High Sierra* just yet.

I AM pleased to say that at least the first time round, the latest High Sierra beta has allowed me to wake without static. Let us see what a longer period of sleep brings!

This is fantastic news! I’ll be trying the beta out later this afternoon.

Ok. High Sierra (most recent version beta) was is also exhibiting static. Not only after a long while, but sometimes only 20 minutes of being in sleep mode...

I've installed the public beta of Mojave. None as yet.
This is good news. It may be that the issue is related to a core part of the High Sierra that they don’t want to mess with, rather fix it on the Mojave overhaul

I installed the Mojave beta yesterday but forgot to leave my computer on overnight (force of habit to shut my computer down instead of sleep with this static issue). I’ll report back tomorrow to see if I get anymore static on the Mojave beta.

Update: So after two long sleep cycles using the Mojave public beta (12 hours each sleep period), it would appear that the static issues is resolved in the Mojave update. Crossing my fingers but so far so good!

I am experiencing similar. After a long sleep it takes a little longer to wake, but it loads straight to the unlock screen. Short periods, it just jumps (fractions of a second) to the unlock screen minus static.

AppleCare rep called me on Friday to let me know that the flickering is a "known issue," and to "keep my machine up to date."

I don't want to sound like a curmudgeon but I would assume this is not a "hard" issue to fix if it's indeed software-related, no?

Yes and no, depending on how the code is written, I suspect the issue is somewhere in the boot cycle from sleep, that something is freezing up the GPU or something along those lines. It’s likely that the Apple engineers decided to save the fix for the Mojave update since they will already be revamping a lot of other things in the code with that update, rather than to risk messing something up by trying to make a fix.

I work as an analyst, and some of my work involves coding databases, and sometimes a “simple” fix actually has other side effects that causes other things to break. Sometimes it takes more work than one would expect.

As a consumer, a decision to wait for Mojave to fix a problem Apple created isn't in my interest but theirs. Meanwhile, this top-of-the-line 15" MacBook Pro flickers and flickers when I wake it, despite a replacement.

I've been a Mac owner for the past fifteen years, this flickering problem has given me one very compelling reason to consider a trade-in for a Surface, or something else. I need something reliable.

I do agree that it is an issue that should’ve been addressed faster, but at least in my case it’s just an annoyance. I’m fine waiting for the new update to fix the issue, because I’d much rather use MacOS than Windows. I use both for work, and I can’t stand the Windows OS, it has way more bugs that actually impact my productivity than MacOS does.

In fact, on my company provided Lenovo with Windows 10, I often have to reboot midday just because the OS glitches out on me. But respectively some people love Windows so I’ll keep my mouth shut. Lol
