I bought a new MBP last weekend, having the same issue. I'm glad to have found this thread, as I was at the point of returning the laptop yesterday. Guess we'll have to wait it out.

Yeah, I would just hold off unless it really bugs you. I’m currently using the Mojave Public Beta and I do not have any issues with the static anymore. Looks like this will be fixed when you get to download the official release of Mojave this fall.

If your seeing the problem, and can return it, I would. Wait for it to be fixed for certain and then buy the laptop again.

It’s a software issue that is being worked on, I personally don’t see returning it as being any better. I mean I guess if you can go with out the computer then it’s an ok option, but if I returned all the computers I’ve had software bugs on, I’d have no computers. Lol

I have to agree with you here, apart from this bug its a wonderful machine, I can't go without one right now.

I have this same issue. I’ve had the latest MacBook for almost a year now and it is doing the same thing. My little sister bought the same computer and within a week hers has done it too. It’s really annoying.

I can also confirm that the Mojave Beta is free of this issue. It is a pretty stable build in general actually. I mean, I've not had any major software issues. The Adobe Creative Cloud app says it needs an update but the programs are still running and my CAD software is just as reliable as it was. Might be worth the download if you can face it.

Hello All,

UPDATE: Hello everyone, this will serve as a final update to the issue below that I posted.

After working with AppleCare and engineering, they wanted to use my device and send me (another) replacement to identify the issue. From what I was told, this appears to be an issue with the OS, and engineering is aware of the issue. Here’s hoping the next update fixes the issue.

Thank you all for your comments below, it helped relieve stress knowing it wasn’t just me with the issue!

——————————————————

I just bought a refurbished MacBook Pro 13" w/Touchbar (Mid 2017) from Apple, and am running the most recent macOS to-date (High Sierra 10.13.4). When I lift the screen to wake the computer after a long sleep cycle (say leave it asleep overnight, on battery power), it intermittently has this issue where it displays a grey and white " static, like an old tv without antenna reception, for about 1 second, before going to the log-in screen. It does not do this on short sleep cycles, and I do not have any external monitors or eGPUs connected to it.

Also, sometimes on boot up the apple logo glitches and shows red for a second, before going back to normal. I have already reset NVRAM and SMC, and even reinstalled macOS High Sierra.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue on newer MacBooks, or have any suggestions on what this may be?

View attachment 759556

UPDATE: So as an update to all of this, I returned the MacBook to apple and received a replacement, and low and behold the new computer I received has the same issue! After long sleeps it has a snow/static on waking the computer up, with no externals plugged in, and with a fresh install of MacOS (no personal applications installed, all stock).

I have been in contact with AppleCare, and they have sent this issue up to Engineering. I am awaiting a response as to if this is "typical" of the newest software update, of is a sign of a bigger, more serious hardware issue. As soon as I get an update from Apple, I will add details to this post.

If you have this issue, report it to Apple! If it is a software issue, the more they are alerted of the issue the faster we will see a fix.
[doublepost=1531050189][/doublepost]I have a brand new 13 inch MBP touch with 10.13.5 running and I also have the problem.

Any luck with the current/last beta of 10.13.6?
I haven’t tried that beta, but I’ve tried the Mojave update and it fixed the issue.

Interestingly, I reinstalled High Sierra on my MBP after trying out the Mojave update, and so far the reinstall of High Sierra hasn’t had the issue. Not sure how the Mojave update fixed the issue but so far it seems doing the beta and switching back to high Sierra kind of fixed the static issue

Same. Fingers-crossed!
So I had the issue come back on 10.13.5 yesterday morning... I installed 10.13.6 yesterday evening, and no issues with static this morning. Hope it sticks!

Same, fingers-crossed! I did notice that iTunes no longer flickers when playing videos.

To elaborate on this, the screen did some weird things during the update, as in the Apple logo got distorted for 15 sec, very weird.

Yeah, unfortunately it did it again this morning with 10.13.6. I have used the Mojave beta and the issue isn't there, I guess I'll just wait until the public release of Mojave to get excited about a fix on this.

I've had the apple logo distorted (ripped apart you could say) and the static after waking up from sleep since I got my MBP too. Super annoying, I can't get used to it and my brain always jumps to a "damn the graphic card is fried" for a second.

So still no fix in 10.13.6, does anyone have any new information? The apple representative I have been working with tells me she has heard nothing new from the engineers. Im reading posts on here of people saying apple sent them a new device so that they could inspect their computers. This worries me a bit because the consensus was that its a software issue, not hardware. Any new info would people have would be greatly appreciated.

So I posted on here about a week ago that when I was trying out the Mojave beta for a week, the static is gone and not there, which was also confirmed by another user. It looks like that while High Sierra wasn’t fixed, Mojave will be. at this point there is no reason to expect this to be a hardware issue, but rather a software bug, and the engineering department “captured” individuals machines (including mine) to help identify the issue within the MacOS.

Of course this isn’t an official statement from Apple, but I can tell you that in my experience of the Mojave beta, the issue has been corrected.

Furthermore, we see that people who's laptop got exchanged have the exact same problem, and it is present on multiple models, therefore the chance of this being a hardware issue is slim. We could collect model numbers if we want a better approach at determining wether this is hardware related or software? But from the signatures beneath the post I can determine that we all have different MacBooks. (I'm on a 14,1 / A1708 / 13''-128GB-8RAM-2.3i5-noTB)
Last year I bought a MacBook air, which had a weird problem in waking after sleep, lagging 10 sec. There were numerous errors in the logs. I returned it and got a second one, which had the exact same issue. According to the reseller this was a hardware issue, the two MacBooks were from the same delivery, and I got my money back in full. They stopped selling them in their webshop until they removed that shipment from their stock.
With this issue, I cannot find any errors in the logs.

Hello, it appears that the issue is effecting a fairly decent amount of machines. According to what I’ve heard personally and from what others have posted, this is a software issue that Apple’s engineering team is working on a fix for.

You can call Apple if you’d want, but my suggestion is to hold off on reporting this to Apple until after the Mojave update comes out (sometimes this fall). If you continue to have the issue then definitely report it, but from the beta test that I had of Mojave it looks like they already have the issue fixed in the software. I can tel you from personal experience even if you get a replacement MacBook from Apple it will have the same issue
