As said "this is Apple" want to use a Mac you have to play their game not that I agree with all. Apple offers great value with the M1 Air yet cash grabs where and whenever it can. Not a good look...

Apple really needs to get back to serving the customer. not it's self...

Q-6
I would highly suggest to pen a letter or type an email or get an online petition and see if MR forum members are willing to support it and send it to Tim Cook, vice complaining about it here where it does little to no good. Want to discuss the pros/cons of something I am in agreement with your sentiment regarding the issue but I am also not loosing sleep or getting upset about it either.

I have a M1 MBA 16/1TB and am happy. Would I like a larger screen, brighter, miniLED/OLED, ProMotion, six speakers, 1080p FaceTime camera, SD Card slot, MagSafe, etc sure it would be nice and some of it is also on the M2 MBA however those to me are icing on the cake as the main functionality of the device is completing all its tasks without fail.

I like the iconic wedge shape and it has no fan regardless if it’s running or it it’s just blissful silence and the weight is not a bother. I can afford the latest and greatest MBP but it is overkill for my workflow. 😁

A bag of dongles...

Not sure who is still using most of these connectors and if one needs them MBP (M1Pro 2021 and M2Pro 2023) has most of those covered.

Most external displays (modern TV) have AirPlay2 built-in. WiFi 5/6/6e also have the bandwidth capacity to transfer most files and affordability is becoming within reach. It boggles the mind that someone seeks to hardwire network connect to a laptop, do these same people consider this for a phone or tablet; curious. If one is using a DSLR there is the option to connect a USB-C cable directly to it which serves as an external SD Card reader/writer.

I am not trying to justify Apple’s I/O design choices I am stating that options exist and purchasing the incorrect product and crying about it later is the sole responsibility of your own.

This whole thread is a classic of the genre, including the sarcastic replies and the angry replies to those replies when people took them literally. *chef's kiss*

I may be done with Apple. I purchased a $5500 MacBook Pro for me 8 months ago in addition to over $10k of Apple products for my business over recent years.

My wife needed a new laptop so I bought her a 13” M2 MacBook Pro with 32 Gig Ram and 1 Terabyte storage. I waited weeks to give it to her for xmas….18 days later (4 days past return option). When I finally helped her set it up, I saw it had one USB C port only…ONE! No HDMI, not one other single port. I’ve spent hundreds with expansion devices, extensions, Apple keyboard and magic mouse so she could actually use it. But it’s a laptop…so when we travel with it, we have to bring a bag worth of junk to get it to work in the real world…not really portable unless just cruising the web…she’s supposed to be abke to work on it…MS Office, images…

I feel so bad for her that I didn’t stop to think to ask about ports…right? At least 2 with an HDMI? Really Apple, or should I say Microsoft? It’s ridiculous and we’ll have to live with it.

Imagine paying 5500$ for a piece of hardware, not researching it thorougly (obviously) and then rant online waiting for people's validation.

Are you serious? If the MBP you purchased for your wife is such an unmitigated disaster, you'd think you'd notice it the moment you opened the box and set it up for the first time--assuming you failed to do due diligence in checking the specs prior to purchasing. So why didn't you simply return it as soon as you saw the problem and purchase an MBP better suited to her needs?

I'm reminded of the classic video about Antennagate and the iPhone 4: "If you don't want an iPhone 4, don't buy it. If you bought one and you don't like it, bring it back."
"If you don't want that MBP, don't buy it. If you bought one and you don't like it, bring it back." So, why didn't you return it????
You clearly didn’t read his entire post. Are you really serious ?

So it’s everyone else’s fault you chose not to do any research on what you bought? You expected the box would be filled with your exact assumptions? Sorry but you need to own your results here and stop blaming everyone else for the poor choices you make in life. Self importance doesn’t make your assumptions true or bind anyone to your expectations. This isn’t Schrödinger's MacBook. So stop throwing anger around because you are the problem, not the product.

CD’s, thumb drives, ethernet, hdmi, charging etc..swapping multiple dongle types…
Yup, all these are in use by some and hardly by all user types. Apple has focused for more than 7 years on that USBC port so this is not a surprise to anyone that dongles at times are a good and cheap way to get these ports back, often times, also well established, enabling the user to just have one cable to attach or detach from the machine.
Happy to hear you learned a lesson about researching your need prior to blindly purchasing some tool.

Out of curiosity, do you frequently pay such little attention when making purchases of several thousand dollars?

After all of this, I bet the OP will never make that mistake again. 😂
