No patcher update needed; current version (1.1.5) works perfectly with DP10.

Maybe my old pendrive is becoming unstable after writing 10 succesfully betas. All solved thank you! :)

Great news about acceleration and Maps (shoutout to @TimothyR734 for discovering the latter).

We're very close to the public release! I can't believe these non-Metal patches have lasted this long. The next couple months are going to be interesting for sure! :)
My guess is that Apple helps unofficial some of the unsupported Macs and Hackintosh users, since it is preferable for them to use the latest macOS on unsupported Macs or Hackintoshes then drop it for something else. They probably watch forums to see how willing are the unsupported machines owners and decide how patchable shall they allow their OS to be.

I just swapped in a GTX680 for you. No it does not display the Airplay mirroring in system preferences or the menu bar. The RX580 does!

I think in your specific case, to make working Sidecar in wired-mode you need an "USB 3.0 internal port" (so a pci-express card or some thunderbolt to usb-type-c), in wireless-mode a Wifi card with 802.11ac technology, or even better 802.11ax.

But if you plan to upgrade your cMP hardware, don't do it expressly for Sidecar.
Anyway I'd advise to the cMacPro owners to consider adding some USB 3.0 internal hub, it's useful in any case.

Hi Jackluke, just tried connecting via a USB3.1 card and apple usb-C to lightning cable. Still black screen with Catalina B10 and iOS 13.1.2. Really just out of interest as I need a faster USB anyway. Otherwise Catalina looks pretty good and I will probably keep it as my main system once it is released. Thanks for your advice.

Hey,

I can reproduce this issue.

I have used macOS Catalina Patcher (Version 1.1.5). I first installed macOS Catalina 10.15 beta 9 (19A573a) from the usb-stick (clean install). Later I installed macOS Catalina 10.15 beta 10 (19A578c) over it ("Install to this Machine").

If I enlarge a photo (no matter which one) in the Photos app Version 5.0 (beta 9: 101.15.12 or beta 10: 101.15.190) by double-clicking, then it will - as already shown above and in my appendix - pretty pixelated and colorful :D

However, the thumbnails are displayed correctly in the Photos app. When I open the photos in the Preview app, they will also display correctly.

My hardware:
- iMac 2009 late 27“ (iMac11,1)
- i5 2.66 GHz
- ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
- 16 GB RAM
- 1 TB Fusion Drive with 120 GB SSD
- Boot ROM version: 63.0.0.0.0

Does this issue possibly occur with any metal-incompatible video card? Can someone else confirm or refute it?

Thank you for your answer and a special thanks to the developer(s)! :)

Best regards

@dosdude1:

Your web page states that "[t]he 2007 iMac 7,1 is compatible [with Catalina patcher] if the CPU is upgraded to a Penryn-based Core 2 Duo, such as a T9300". What sort of performance can be expected from such an upgraded machine, which currently runs El Capitan? Will that be a worthwhile experience? Will there be any kind of GPU acceleration? In case this is considered to be a desirable upgrade, isn't the T9300 chip considered to be for laptops? Are there different flavours of the T9300? Would a T9400 be even better or wouldn't it make any difference?

Here is a post with my recent findings on the 2007 iMac 7,1. If you do the processor upgrade, do yourself a favor and go to 4GB ram (or 6GB if you have money to burn) and a cheap SSD upgrade. Pretty decent machine with those upgrades, and even Catalina seems to run smoothly, so you should be future proof for another 12-18 months at least.

This doesn't happen to me with a MacBook7,1 (GeForce 320M) on DP9. I'll install DP10 this afternoon and see if it starts happening on my system. Otherwise, it might just be an issue with AMD cards rather than the non-Metal acceleration patches in general.

You could try using a third party app like SwitchResX to change the color bit depth and see if that fixes it. It looks like it might.

Weird...

He's telling you to try using the "Install to This Machine" option of the Catalina Patcher, IE do NOT use a USB drive to install.

just make sure macOS Catalina Dev Beta 10 is in your downloads folder. Think the post install patches are installed automatically after the second boot as I have forgot a few times and and it went into the desktop just fine without using my usb Cat patcher after you get into your desktop then try making a Cat patcher usb

I already had the issue with the beta 9.

I have now installed the SwitchResX app (Version 4.9.0), disabled SIP and changed the colors from 1 billion to millions, which has fixed the issue:

Bildschirmfoto 2019-10-01 um 20.32.06.png

Currently, 3 people have reported the issue: @iMac-Oldschool probably has a AMD Radeon HD 2400 or 2600, @antony34 has a AMD Radeon HD 4670 and I have a AMD Radeon HD 4850.

3 persons could not reproduce the issue: You (@ASentientBot) have a GeForce 320M, @TimothyR734 has a GeForce 9400M and @vince22 has a metal-compatible video card.

So it's very obvious that the issue only occurs with metal-incompatible AMD video cards.

Maybe others who can reproduce the issue can say which video card they have.

Incidentally, videos that are double-clicked in the Photos app are played correctly (with 1 billion colors).

I noticed something else: If you look at the system info, on High Sierra (the last official macOS for my iMac) the „Framebuffer Depth" is "24-Bit Color (ARGB8888)" (= about 1.67 million colors or 8 bit per channel/sample) and with the Mojave and Catalina patch the „Framebuffer Depth" is "30-Bit Color (ARGB2101010)" (= about 1 billion colors or 10 bit per channel/sample).

Therefore, I think that the affected AMD video cards do not support 30-bit color (see also). Or what do you think? @ll

Maybe the above fix/workaround that @ASentientBot has suggested will help some users and developers.

Edit: Because the SwitchResX app is only free for 10 days, I looked for a permanently free alternative and found the ResXtreme app (Version 1.0.1 (6)), which also works well for me (you have to choose your resolution with 8 instead of 10 bit/sample).

Hi, I see that your new battery is recently manufactured !
I am also looking to buy a new battery for my macbook7,1. On which site did you buy yours?
Thank you

One of the forum members suggested that I should buy a battery from the DuracellDirect.com, which I did(brand 2-POWER). I am very happy so far but of course with batteries only time will tell. I can get about 8 hours with light usage. It has 12 months warranty and I paid AU$99.00 for it(I am currently in Australia).

Wait, so do we have to recreate a new USB installer to install DP10 on DP9 using the patcher? I don't have the update OTA in settings, did they get rid of it on unsupported APFS like they did in Mojave with non-APFS drives?
