Hello to all,

Just an update on status of Catalina 10.15.1 on a 17 inch MacBook Pro 5,2 with Samsung Evo 860 Pro SSD (trim enabled), 8 MB RAM, Core2Duo CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB

I used Dosdude1’s patcher 1.2.1 [thank you !] to download latest version of Catalina (10.15.1), and installed the OS via the usual, USB drive based, procedure.

The new OS installation overwrites the great SkylightOriginal and HIToolbox patches provided by @ASentientBot, with loss of transparency effect in certain menus and applications.

In order to revive the transparency I manually reinstalled the SkylightOriginal and HIToolbox patches, both of which were fully functional under 10.15.1 *beta*.

However, upon restart under 10.15.1 (not beta), the booting process stalled at about 3/4 length of progress bar. Reinstalling 10.15.1 fixed the problem, but (as expected) transparencies provided by the patches were lost. Reintroducing them, led to same boot stall.

I noticed, that another user had success with variants(?) of @ASentientbot’s Skylight and HIToolbox patches, (see post# 6251 by Alexcorps). I downloaded and manually installed those patches; I also replaced CatalinaAutoMountWritable.plist, just in case it got corrupted. On restart, expected transparency effects were fully functional and boot process was uneventful. There are no residual issues, beyond those known to be present when running Catalina on Apple-unsupported macs.

Hope this might be of help.

Thank you again for the great work of the Lead Group (we all know who they are), and the many other contributors.

Just keep an eye on things as I tried the method you did and within hours I started getting crashes with the Notification Center and audio a New BlueSky patch will be coming soon

check your patch updater /Applications/Utilities folder scroll to the bottom
No, it„s not there. Keep in mind this a Hackintosh that uses Clover Bootloader and FakeSMC kext to keep it running. Perhaps the fact that I need to use a disguise (SMBIOS or System Definitions) of a supported Mac to allow Catalina to boot of iMac14.2 makes the app not to offer the update. I apple the patches for iMac 10.1, but use the system definition of iMac 14.2 .

Thanks for heads-up; I will follow your advice, but so far, playing with various setting in "Notifications," via system preferences, did not yield any obvious problems with stability nor problems with audio.

I don't know if this will work but downloaded the latest copy of the Catalina patcher and create a usb with the latest version then install only the install patch updater see if that works or check posts 6312 or 6347 after I installed the update to the legacy video patch I did get crashes but that has been fixed by dosdude but I replaced the ones in the output folder from Asentientbot and it worked for me

Just to be clear, the transparency patches are not my work. They are developed by @pkouame and @testheit, and the implementations you used were probably from @0403979 or @jackluke.

Secondly, there is no way that a correctly patched SkyLightOriginal will ever stop working in a current version of my wrappers. I do not modify that file from release to release, it's from 10.14.6 and has only been patched once a few months ago to prevent an "assertion failed" message in a developer beta.

Therefore I am certain that @jackluke's transparency patch file will work. If it breaks your system, try booting single-user mode and running:
Code:
mount -uw /
codesign -f -s - /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SkyLight.framework/Versions/A/SkyLightOriginal
codesign -f -s - /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/SkyLight.framework/Versions/A/SkyLight
That should fix your issue.

Watch Unlock for the lock screen stopped working on my MacBook Air mid 2011 with updated BLE card. Once logged in the Watch Unlock works for installer etc., but it quickly times out on the lock screen.
This worked nicely before on High Sierra and Mojave (patched.)
I disabled it, rebooted, and reenabled. No problem with the process, just the results.

Any ideas anybody?

I want to update the os
Download the Catalina Patcher on the first page on this thread then download a copy of 10.15.1 using the patcher then you can create a new patcher to install macOS Catalina 10.15.1 then apply the post install patches

Hundred of bugs, in particular with connectivity/Bluetooth/syncing. That’s why on unsupported hardware I wouldn’t even try. My 2 cents

What exactly is "IT" that you are referring to?

Hi @ASentientBot! Thanks for the explanation! I'm new in patching Apple SOs... My previous Mac was a cMP 5,1, running High Sierra, and this machine didn't need any patch 2 years ago. So, my machine now is a MPB8,3, and I'm running Mojave 10.14.6 only using @dosdude1 patch (pretty well, I can tell)... I feel dumb sometimes... I'm losing any features for not knowing another patches? My MBP8,3 need some another patch? Thanks a lot!

No real problems with Catalina on a MacPro 3,1 with BCM94360CD. Handoff and Airdrop works flawlessly out of the box.
