Nope Machine is fine its Macbook air 4.2 (2011). On High Sierra Safari it works perfect on 1080p. It seems Catalina for unsupported Mac like mine has no Metal graphic card support so it will not play in 1080p.

But I am surprised at MS Edge beta which I downloaded in High Sierra but still it fails to play in 1080p.

Don't forget that your MacbookAir equipped with IntelHD3000 (as also any other non-metal GPU) on Catalina don't achieved a full 100% OpenGL acceleration (as Mojave), I'd say around 70% , it depends probably from the VideoDecodeAcceleration framework issues responsible of H264 HW accel , but really hard to understand how to patch it on Catalina.

However the 2011 machines are helped by the i5/i7 cpu so they can overcome the H264 HW accel.

Instead the Core2Duo (Penryn) machines can easily test Edge and other internet browsers on Mojave, and it should play correctly the 1080p , in case replace from HighSierra the AppleGVA.framework and put it in the Mojave/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/

I must have did something with mine I deleted the app reinstalled still getting a javascript error so try not to mess with the settings

I'm trying to update my Mac Pro 3,1 from Catalina 10.15 to 10.15.1. Direct install via Dosdude1's patcher didn't work so i try to create an installer on a USB key. Creation of this installer worked but when I reboot to the USB key to start the install, my MagicMouse2 is not recognized and I can't click on Continue.........
What I am doing wrong to get the recognition of the mouse is my question ?????? Thanks for help and ideas.

Wifi and Bluetooth from an unsupported Mac Installer/Recovery environment with older machines are often an issue, so you should plug a usb wired keyboard/mouse to continue the post-installation.

Hi Jackluke. I wish I knew on replacement of framworks but I dont and would not go that far unless someone else who is more tech savy will make a patch.

Yes Microsoft launched their Beta edge browser for mac couple of days back. Its pretty fast but does not allow 1080p video . Sad.

Do you think I should get Mojave patch OS in lieu of Catalina? Will it support full OpenGL acceleration and will my macbook air 4.2 get all airdrop, continuity working in it. If so I am ready to switch to Mojave. Please do provide your viewpoint

My keyboard is a plugged USB one and a USB wired Logitech Mouse doesn't work either . Logitech Options
is not working even with a new updater for Catalina...........I don't understand why an Apple MagicMouse (last model) can't work !!!!!!!

Update : my Logitech Mouse has started to work again (wired USB). So I will try to reboot to the USB key installer and see if its recognized better than the Apple Magic Mouse..........

After reboot, mouse worked and installation started but no success in the end even after post-install patches and force rebuild of caches, I'm still on 10.15 and not 10.15.1 !!!!!!!!!!! And I used last Dosdude1's one patcher 1.2.3.........

Thanks. You & @jackluke confirmation made my day. I have few questions though perhaps you may guide:
1. I will download Mojave patcher and use Mojave OS on my Macbook air 4.2 2011 on a different partition.
2. Do I need to partition in AFPS or Mac journaled?
3. Will I be able to get airdrop and continuity support working?
4. Will I be able to get Netflix running at 1080p on safari (Mojave)
5. Will my Intel 3000 graphics card work 100 percent open gl acceleration.
6. How will I get sh commands and ktext replacement for airdrop and continuity for Mojave for my machine model.
7. I also have official High Sierra running as my Prime OS. But my 2011 Macbook does not allow continuity/handoff as well as Airdrop to ios iPad. Is there a way I can get this going.

Sorry for asking these questions for my unsupported mac as I need to be sure before I proceed.

Considering that @ASentientBot made an excellent work on Catalina (and on Mojave too, the latest one is the non-metal "light mode"), if you want to switch back to Mojave these are my answers:

1. Ok
2. As you want, since the dosdude1 Mojave Patcher allows an HFS+ Mojave installation
3. Yes, you can use also the same pre-patched Wifi kext that used on Catalina
4. I think so
5. Yes, also AirPlay will work
6. They are the same as Catalina

@jackluke. Thats perfect. I am grateful to all of you and thanks again to @ASentientBot & all for answering and taking time to guide. I will be busy this weekend. Could you provide me the link to Mojave non metal light mode. I am extremely relieved for rest of my queries you have answered. Tks again.

edit:
I forgot, if you want Mojave OTA software updates, just select APFS for your Mojave installation, HFS+ can't receive them.

I can't change the access permissions of the System Library directories and can't write the files to enable Airdrop. The SIP is already disabled. Has anyone been able to activate Aidrop on macOS Catalina?

I have the same mouse and every time I connect a USB mouse and delete the configuration in the panel after I reconnect it and it works without problems. I had the same mistake even on mojave

tks noted. Finally I have 3 partitions now with my prime being OS High Sierra followed by Mojave and Catalina. Now i need to apply the sh commands to get other stuff working. Tks to 🍏 for making things worst for all of us. In Mojave after applying update 10.14.6 stuck at grey screen with progress bar, apple logo and beach ball with no action. How to get out of this.

Whilst in Catalina I am trying to make a bootable USB, using the createinstallmedia commands from Apple.
The install app is in the Applications folder, the USB is titled MyVolume.
In Terminal I enter the correct commands for the OS I want to make a bootable USB for.
I press Return, I am then asked to enter my Password, I do and press Return.
And then nothing happens, the Terminal does not ask me to confirm that I want to erase my USB.
It just sits blank.

Then the CPUs usage goes up to 100%, Activity Monitor shows hundreds of instances of createinstallmedia
with 0 bytes written. The Mac becomes unresponsive, apps have to be
Force Quit, and the Mac forcibly restarted.

So what I am asking is have any of you tried to make a bootable USB installer
using the Terminal app in Catalina.

DiskmakerX and Disk Creator both fail too, they use the createinstallmedia command also.

I have other OS's on this Mac, Mojave, Sierra and El Capitan all of which can make bootable USB installers.

Try re-apply the Mojave Patcher Post-Install patches and select "Force rebuild cache" , otherwise reinstall Mojave over your current Mojave, I have not tested yet the latest build 18G1012 , but some minor side effects after each update are expected.

I'm not sure, It's probably something dumb on Apple's part. You should have no issues using Catalina Patcher to create the drive, though. Remember that it will install a completely stock, unmodified/unpatched copy of Catalina on machines that support Catalina natively.

Thanks to all. Siri is working now.

you might try this app out https://mac.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Create-Install-Media.shtml

I did exactly as you said and I got success after reapplying the post install. Now all is cool except I have no sound at all. Siri too not working . See image below

View attachment 875639

Any clues. Tks

Before Siri, you need the Audio/Sound to work, and try to re-apply the post-install patches selecting only the "Audio Patch" and check also the "force rebuild cache".

After you have a working Audio, try this for Siri: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...unsupported-macs-thread.2121473/post-27950776

Hello thank you for replying, that's the thing I have no problem creating a bootable installer with your patcher.
I am making bootable installers for other OS's that is why I am using Terminal and createinstallmedia.
Anyway so after spending most of the day trying different things I have now managed to create a USB installer, only took about 8 restarts, so at the moment it is working.
I may go for a reinstall of Catalina to see if that freshens things up.

I hate that I never seem to have the same problems that everyone else has. I am enjoying Catalina on a Mid 2010 MBP (Thanks a billion DosDude! :) ) and everything was fine until... I tried to use the personal hotspot function on my iPhone and suddenly, not even messages on the MBP was working! Sign out, sign in, sign out, sign in.... Apparently, it is not enough to be on the same account, one has to be on the same Apple ID?! Somehow, music takes the Apple ID and Password and... Nothing! again and again and again! Ok, I can just play from the phone... The problems didn't end there but I think the idea is clear: one day, everything runs like a charm and then one day, everything goes bananas! So....

Why not just update to the latest release and see if Apple has fixed some of the problems and then you can just focus on working around what they haven't yet.... Only, now, there is stuff in the hard drive that I want to keep and downloading the latest version and installing erases everything so, ok, go to MacRumors and search around... Maybe in the wiki? no. Has anyone tried to just update directly from Apple? Did it work? Hot Spot? Phone call from Mac?

I'm open to suggestions but I really would like to avoid having to reinstall the entire OS every time there is an update if at all possible.

Anyone running Catalina on 2011 Macbook Pro (AMD Radeon HD 6490M) (Macbook Pro 8,2) ?

Will this run successfully on this machine?

The AMD 6xxx series is a problem:

From DosDude's website

  • AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx series graphics acceleration: Currently, it is not possible to achieve full graphics acceleration under Catalina on any machines that use a Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series GPU. If you have a machine with one of these GPUs installed, I'd advise upgrading it if possible (can be done in 2010/2011 iMacs, iMac11,x-12,x), disabling the dedicated GPU if using a 2011 15" or 17" MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,2/8,3, instructions to do so can be found here), or not installing Catalina. Running Catalina without full graphics acceleration will result in extremely poor system performance.

I don't know if there are any other workarounds elsewhere but if DosDude says it, I am inclined to take him at his word.
