@jackluke ... you mean since we have installed the 10.15.3 DP3 (19D75a), we can and skip the final version 19D75? Then we can update to the next 10.15.4 DP1 right?

who cares or who needs it:
10.15.3 Combo Update

Right, and your OTA dist method is better than using and patching a Delta/Combo update.

Since my EFI has not changed in a long time, it means it32 is not new. What is new is that the Catalina icns includes this old icon type.

I understand that pasting over the it32 in the Catalina icns using Preview.app is one way to create a new working icon for my old MacPro3,1's Startup Manager. I would prefer a method that does not require copy and paste though, since I have many icons to fix. I will look at the other utilities and see if they can work, or I can create a new utility or script to do it.

From your previous posted apple startup manager picture (that with all the osx volumes), you have an EFI boot with an Ubuntu icon, check what kind of icon is that, maybe is a bit different from the Catalina ones (it32).

And yes, for a proper icns global fixing you should replace all the 10 icon/png, the first is the highest resolution, for example for Finder volumes (desktop, context-menu, info) are used smaller lowres pngs I guess from 4 to 9th icon (that are common to pre-Catalina icns) depending on display resolution.

Multiple failures on downloading the updated Catalina app from the App Store. It does not even show downloading on the Applications Folder and on Launcher, only on System Preferences. Although the dosdude1 app is not updated, I suppose it downloads the latest Catalina app. If it fails again, shall I try to download via the dosdude1 app?

I don't remember where the Ubuntu icon came from. It's an icns that contains the following:
is32,s8mk (16x16)
il32,l8mk (32x32)
ih32,h8mk (48x48)
it32,t8mk (128x128)

I guess the letters stand for small, large, huge, titanic?

The Ubuntu icns was created February 23, 2016. It appears to be the same image as used by rEFInd but rEFInd uses png files so I don't know how I converted it to icns. Maybe I did a copy from Preview.app and pasted it into the volume Get Info window in the Finder using an earlier version of macOS? I guess I should test older versions of macOS to see if any of them create the it32.

Notes:
  • Pasting into the icon of a volume's Get Info window creates a .VolumeIcon.icns (invisible, contains icns data).
  • Pasting into the icon of a folder's Get Info window creates an invisible Icon? file where ? is a carriage return and the icns data is a resource in the resource fork of the file. The icns can be extracted from the resource fork like this:
    Code:
    derez -only "'icns'" Icon? | sed -nE "/^ \\$.([ 0-9A-F]+).*/s//\1/p" | xxd -p -r > Icon.icns

I guess only editing and saving an icns from Catalina and Mojave Preview.app keep the right icns encoding, also only from Catalina release apple unlocked this it32, maybe to make more colorful its bootloader.

Guys I Need Your Help , My MacBook Pro Late 2011 13' inch , i already used dosdude method long time and i am now on catalina 10.15 , i have three issues , first : i don't receive any OTA updates only safari updates , so i can't install 10.15.3 i also tried to install the beta profile

second issue : i noticed that my keyboard backlit isn't working using the F keys for that, and after long time searching i thought its not working anymore for hardware issue but after installing LABTICK i can use the backlit again on my keyboard, is there a way to fix the problem

third issue : side car aint working (it gives black screen only on iPad pro 3rd generation)

THANKS ALL GUYS WAITING FOR YOUR KINDLY REPLIES

Update: Looks like the current version of Catalina Patcher works just fine with the 10.15.3 installer!
MBP5,2 running fine with 10.15.3, installed in-place with patcher 1.3.0.
Installation went fully automatic. Big THANKS!

I observe that Activity Monitor doesn't seem to show any columns now, other than process name. Was OK in 10.15.2.
Another small issue in Activity Monitor is that network receive traffic is shown in the graph as zero, although it is normal. This is with the Ethernet cable in my case, Wifi receive is shown correctly in the graph. Was already like this in 10.15.2.
All the rest I use is fine, and the system is very responsive like it was in 10.15.2.

Did the installation on an external (USB) SSD cloned with CCC from the internal SSD with 10.15.2, and installed 10.15.3 over it in-place. Also made a bootable USB installer for possibe future need.

(MBP5,2 17" mid 2009, 2.8GHz T9600, 8GB, APFS ROM patch applied, Samsung SSD 860/840 EVO with APFS.)

Edit: thanks Larsvonhier - indeed the Process Name column is too wide initially. Missing columns shown once this is shrunk sufficiently.

Just checked here with the final 10.15.3 today: Activity monitor is ok, but you might have to shrink/resize column markers in the top window region. These were completely wrong and so the following (right hand) colums were initially way off-window because of that.

Unless it´s 19D76 now and there might be some minor differences to the ´75a beta 3.

I managed to install Catalina on my Early 2008 MBP, and it's working quite well, so far so good. Thanks to the people who made this possible.
Only one issue is bugging me: right click (two fingers touchpad + button click) isn't working, I have to use CMD-Button, and that is weird because two fingers scroll is functioning, so it's being recognised.
Anybody knows how to make right click with two fingers work again?

Can you be more specific about the type of MacBook? I´d assume that with the symptoms you describe you have a MB 5,2 and not a 2008 MBP (which would i.e. be a MBP 4,1).

1. Put the Catalina Automount in /Library/LaunchDaemons folder reboot
2. run the swupatch in the terminal enter your password when prompted then open up the software update in System preferences download 10.15.3 Final
[automerge]1580265191[/automerge]
3. run the catalinaswufix in there terminal before you restart to install 10.15.3 if you have a macOS Catalina patcher 1.3.0. that you used to install macOS Catalina 10.15.2 then run the post install patches with that it works
Ran step #1. After rebooting I did step #2 but Software Update says 10.15.1 is up to date. Ran catalinaswufix3.command but of course it just says go to Software update...

This. Had the prob with Activity Monitor during the 10.15 beta phase already. Simply adjusting the columns width cured it.

TimothyR734 say:
Yes it does as I used the method in my post 8064 but I also downloaded a copy of macOS Catalina 10.15.3 just so I have it if something does go wrong I have a way to reinstall always good to have a current version

correct .. I always download the full version (8.18 GB) final of the current version.
If something goes wrong you can then reinstall it.

I used dosdude1's patcher to download the full installer for OS 10.15.3, then did a clean, fresh installation of OS 10.15.3, and then migrated/copied needed files, folders, etc. from my most recent SuperDuper! backup (done on Saturday). Did it on both of my Macs, and everything is fine.

The Activity Monitor looks normal to me, just as before. And my Mac Mini seems "snappier".

Hello.
First of all, I tried to search on this thread for fixing my issue, to no avail.
A friend gave me a MacBook 5,1 to install the best I can, so, after bumping my head to install the latest officially supported (El Cap, just by setting the date to july 10 2018 due to expired certificates), he asked me if I could install one of the latest: after fast searching the net, I found the dosdude1 patch for Catalina (also for others but I chose this one).
So I tried it: downloaded the latest (1.3.0 up to date) and made it run, then i downloaded the latest Catalina, so iirc 10.15.3, and I tried to create an USB installer on a 16 GiB USB 2.0 pendrive, calling the drive "CatInstaller" as in dosdude1 yt video.
All went well, or so it seemed since I got no error in this proceeding, but...
... but when I tried to boot from it (holding alt/option and choosing EFI boot), after more or less half the loading bar I get a light-grey forbidden sign, and nothing more happens.
I tried also to disable the SIP as suggested by the installer while I tried to upgrade in place, but to no avail.
I want to make a clean install on an SSD, so I prefer to avoid upgrade in place.
Also, I read about the APFS BootROM Support, but as written on the site, it's for macs that supports natively High Sierra and this isn't the case, right?
What should I do then?
TIA

Sounds like it's just an issue with your USB drive. Try using a different one, chances are that will work.

The System Preferences update issue is not solved in 10.15.3 +dosdude1 patch 1.30 . Fortunately, there is Silent Knight that gives me a workable gui to update the OS. But what about other apps, like GarageBand or any other that install via the App Store? I would like to install GarageBand, would it update fine from App Store or, in order to update it, I shall need to delete the old version and re-download it from the App Store?

Deleting this post where I initially indicated that I had a Wi-Fi problem after upgrading from 10.15.2 to 10.15.3. The problem was related to a sound kext was using on my HackBookPro 6,2. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth continue to work perfectly in 10.15.3. Sorry for the false alarm.
