The System Preferences update issue is not solved in 10.15.3 +dosdude1 patch 1.30 . Fortunately, there is Silent Knight that gives me a workable gui to update the OS. But what about other apps, like GarageBand or any other that install via the App Store? I would like to install GarageBand, would it update fine from App Store or, in order to update it, I shall need to delete the old version and re-download it from the App Store?
Sounds like it's just an issue with your USB drive. Try using a different one, chances are that will work.
To disable it, try this opening a Catalina Terminal window copy/paste (in one line):
Code:sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleStorageDrivers.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleUSBCardReader.kext
You can, but it is extremely risky. I'd highly advise not doing so, and just continue using the custom APFS bootloader implementation. The APFS ROM Patcher V.2 identifies the Mini3,1 which has the NVIDIA MCP79 should I proceed?
Thanks for the guidance. The reason for asking is I've already bricked an early Mini3,1 by being impatient. Noticed Catalina reports the MCP79 as "Generic" while Mojave reports the OEM and p/n, specifically. You can, but it is extremely risky. I knew that Garageband was downloading fine and working and that iMovie does not work. But I was wondering if I was able to update it from App Store, because I can not update Catalina from System Preferences.View attachment 891374
Yes you can install GarageBand from the App Store and the Software update in System Preferences will alert you do updates from the update or if you use Safari Technology Preview> The newest iMovie does not work as it now requires metal
Jackluke is there a option to make this permanent ? and not do this every time I boot ?
thx man !
cd /System/Library/Extensions/AppleStorageDrivers.kext/Contents/Plugins/
sudo mount -uw /
sudo mv AppleUSBCardReader.kext AppleUSBCardReader.bak

All of them compatible. Just doesn't work in Unsupported mac.May
May be they are not compatible any more...
I only have 1Password 7 extension installed but it works on MacBook Pro 5,1. Maybe a combination of extensions is causing a conflict in the most recent version of Safari. All of them compatible. Just doesn't work in Unsupported mac.
Can you be more specific about the type of MacBook? I´d assume that with the symptoms you describe you have a MB 5,2 and not a 2008 MBP (which would i.e. be a MBP 4,1).

Or only try it if you are prepared to change the flash eprom chip if unsuccessfulYou can, but it is extremely risky. I'd highly advise not doing so, and just continue using the custom APFS bootloader implementation.
Ok, then the solution of that riddle is a bit more complicated:It is a 4,1 Early 2008 15" MacBook Pro. Had the same issue (non working two fingers-right click) with High Sierra, but right click was working ok with the officially supported El Capitan.
It seems that during some repair process that you might have had with your MBP 4,1 someone installed the top case of the older MBP 3,1.
Since Safari has issues while using Netlix or Hulu and sometimes Youtube I use the FriendlyStream app its free int he App Store to watch Hulu and works great not so much for Netflis but you have an option to play Youtube on the app as well but haven't tested it I use this app to watch Netflix on as Youtube is an option bt Hulu doesn't seem to work https://electronplayer-beta.otbeaumont.me use this version here beta 3 crashes use 2.0.7 https://github.com/oscartbeaumont/ElectronPlayer/releasesCurrently my 2009 Mac Pro with an rx 580 gpu is unable to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu in Safari. The browser will not accept the plugins. With Silverlight 5 installed and html 5 the browser will not play any video content. Is this an issue that comes with running Catalina? Does anyone think a fresh install would fix the problem?
