Tks jackluke . I know you are always there to help. It seems my imac is playing strangely.

1 After all above issues i shut down the imac and was upset for a while thinking what to do. I let the imac cool off and after say about an hour just pressed start button and it took me straight to your while opencore screen. Mind you I dont have it installed neither I had any external drives or usb connected. I saw Catalina listed and clicked on option 3 and here I am writing you this message.

2.Now should I install your opencore app on the catalina volume or I should not.

3. Should I do the Pram test option, PQR still

4. I deleted Mojave volume as it was on external USB drive so I will install again.

Even When I installed opencore on external USB it still doesnot show as startup disk in prefpane startup why?

Before doing a PRAM reset, from Catalina open terminal and type:
Code:
sudo mkdir /Volumes/efi
sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk0s1 /Volumes/efi
sudo rm /Volumes/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTx64.efi

Then delete from your Downloads folder any previous USBOpenCore or OpenCoreAPFS zip or app (because sometimes system keeps older version cached not building correctly the app)

After you removed any previous OpenCore from Downloads, try make again your external USB drive with this: USBOpenCoreAPFSloader.app.zip

And run it directly from Downloads folder without any subfolder

After you make the USB opencore check Startup Disk prefpane, you should notice the opencore icon, but instead you select your Catalina HD as startup disk, restart and it should work.

Yes Now its showing correctly in prefpane. Catalina HD is already selected

i restarted with option key pressed and then i selected catalina hd to login. Something is going crazy.

That's the macOS Recovery that is loading, try reset PRAM and it should work, but I repeat this weird issue doesn't depend from opencore, rather a faulty hard disk.

I have both 1tb each SSD of Samsung EVo and Crucial purchased six months back and are new and work ok . If they were faulty I would not be able to format or install the OS again. I do feel some setting is creating some issue on Non apple Efi Metal Gpu based imac. I did reset PRam which took me to the recovery screen. I selected startup disk from men and pressed option key to get to login screen. Normal start is now allowing me to get to login screen. As you can see from images above.

it seems after pram i am taken to recovery screen. On shutting down and restart With option key catalina hd not visible anymore. My hdd is not showing. How can this be solved

I know I have written a lot on this issue but now It seems I dont have the opencore white page on startup. This happened by itself. Since you wrote earlier that this opencore app you made is not for non apple efi metal gpu 765M card . So now when I start the imac it boot to black screen and does not take me to login screen. I have to always use option-alt key to select the catalina hd to login. Do you have any solution.?

I will try to install your opencore app on usb as bootable and then use it and check if it helps. Since earlier installing to catalina hdd created issues for my non apple efi metal gpu imac machine. Ok I installed your opencore app on USB stick and then after chime pressing option key booted from opencore that took me to white screen. I selected my HDD to login. However, going to startup disk prefpane I dont see your opencore as startup disk so I guess this too does not work for non apple efi metal gpu machine.
Now I am stuck with major issue that is everytime I need to login I have to press option-alt key. Pressing start button only takes me to black screen with fans on. Need a solution pls.

So both of us has similar issue. I have to use option key always to go to login screen. Auto startup doesnot help but gives black screen. If you come across any solution please let me know.

Hi. I've recovered "partially" normal boot screen behavior. After install a fresh copy of Catalina 10.15.4 I could only boot correctly by "Option" key. To try to understand boot process I booted Catalina with "Command+V" in verbose mode. I realized that before boot process appeared a small screen with symbols...like some some "EFI boot code". (in previous Catalina version I never saw this screen). So I thought that maybe as I modified EFI to get boot screen in my iMac, the EFI was corrupted. So, I restored my EFI to original state and I also flashed my GTX to beta3 by @Nick [D]vB .

My surprise was that after 4 o 5 seconds after chime sound the display turn on and Catalina started. I got the same "EFI boot code" screen over apple logo, but then the Catalina started.
I will try to record some video to explain this behaviour.

Could be that this update modify EFI bios? that is possible?

Thats really good. Could you make a guide on youtube and record . I already have beta 3 bios updated. How did you restore efi to original state? It will really help. In my case now my hd catalina is not showing at all in option key press or direct startup.

Hi All,

After upgrading to version 10.15.4, my system started showing strange behavior. whenever I restart the system, Chrome crashes on the first try and the ExpressVPN App is always asking to allow something

Has anyone noticed any similar behavior?

regards,

Macbook Pro 15 Late 2011
8Gb RAM 256SSD

I am facing something similar and everything is as slow as molasses. Thinking about downgraded to 10.15.3 or mojave.

Then you should try to update your SSD firmware for example: https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/download/tools/

Or maybe the EFI GPU Metal ROM you flashed is incompatible with Catalina 10.15.4 .

But I can guarantee that the issues you encountered don't depend from my OpenCore setup.

Hello @dosdude1. I think I came across a possible "bug" in a recent Patch Installer update.

I am running 10.15.4 via 1.4 USB Installer installation on a MBP 6,2.
  • Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (7.21.190.33 AirPortDriverBrcm4360-1325.2)
After applying the updated Library Validation Disabler Patch released 4/6/20, my internal Wi-Fi stopped working entirely, with the inability to turn on the Wi-Fi via System Preferences or Task Bar shortcut (still showed up on the Task Bar but greyed out).

I attempted to re-apply all the patches via booting into the 1.4 USB installer, including overwriting the Library Validation Disabler Patch via the 1.4 version and force-rebuild... no dice.

The only way I was able to resolve the Wi-Fi issue was to to do a reinstallation of 10.15.4 using the 1.4 USB installer.

Thanks again to all for your work keeping my old MBP in the game!

This is an issue with 10.15.4 itself, and nothing to do with running a patched install. I've found running "sudo killall taskgated" in Terminal will fix this issue.

Hey DosDude!
After a fresh install of 10.15.4 and running ONYX. Everything on my late 2008 15,1 MBP is extremely slow or freezes for every single function. Any insight on this?

I sure wish you'd let us know what GPUs to upgrade to once we install Catalina on our old Mac Pros. Mine is a mid 2010. Runs good but is a bit jerky. Thanks, Jack

Thanks Jackluke. Will visit the Samsung site to upgrade software. EFI GPU Metal Rom is compatible as I had 10.15.2 running very well and other OS too like High Sierra & Mojave. These issues cropped up after upgrading to 10.15.4 I guess.

Here is what I did. I installed fresh Catalina 10.15.4 on new partition of Crucial 1TB SSD, once OS was loaded I opened iMac and installed SSD internally.
I started the system normally and it took me to login screen. When I pressed option key I see all volumes listed again. That means the SSD of Samsung is working but maybe the Catalina OS is corrupted.

here is image of startup disk

Thanks @jackluke for all your support and guidance. Now my iMac boots to login screen with normal startup.👍

Apparently there is no app to upgrade firmware of Samsung ssd with Mac. One can only do with Windows PC. Unless you have something let me know

Saw a new version, V1.4.1, of dosdude1's MacOS Catalina Patcher on www.macupdate.com:

Any explanation why?
Yes - it is in the changelog of dosdude1's page (the original) http://dosdude1.com/catalina/

Edit: I guess post #9890 and similar observations motivated this update.

From the changelog:

"1.4.1 - 4/6/2020

• Fixed an issue where permissions for some third-party applications may not work"
Wonder if it corrects the issue I had with V1.3.5, where I could not complete the installation of OS 10.15.4. I subsequently downloaded and applied the OS 10.15.4 Combo Updater. Things are good.

I am happy with v10.15.3, no problems and everything's working beautifully. 🤪
Same with me, but with OS 10.15.4. No issues at all.
