You are correct, definitely strange. We have a MB5,1 and when the battery finally went bad all types of power-related strangeness occurred. Sleep, fan and unexpected shutdowns with charger connected. Replaced the battery with what OWC pushes, no issues since. Same charger, still. Original battery went 8 years, btw.

Thanks anyway. Time for a new computer.

I recently installed 10.15.4 via @dosdude1's patcher 1.4 on my cMP 4,1>5,1 with no issues. After installing the Library Validation Disabler Patch which is proposed for my Mac, the system wouldn't boot and required a re-install of 10.15.4.
The camera and microphone seem to work OK anyway, so I'm not too bothered, just slightly worried. Under Installed Patch Updates, Version 2 of this patch is shown.

How many patches are required on a MacPro 4,1? If you don't have any patched kext installed, you won't need the Library Validation Disabler Patch since all your kext will be properly signed.

Hi guys! How are you? Hope you are all fine! I have 2 questions: can I install Catalina on a cMP4,1 (updated to 5,1) without efi boot screen card? I think the GT120 may not work anyway... Can I use a standard GTX780ti or other Kepler GPUs (GT710 or GT730) without flashing it for Mac? Thanks!

Thats really good. Could you make a guide on youtube and record . I already have beta 3 bios updated. How did you restore efi to original state? It will really help. In my case now my hd catalina is not showing at all in option key press or direct startup.
Well is not an easy task. I don't recommend to flash you EFI bootrom if you never did it before.
You need a CH341 programer to reflash you efi and of course original EFI.

Oh That I have done many times . I mis understood your post earlier. I used Ch341 programmer to flash Nick's version 3.
Actually my Catalina got corrupted so I faced start issues . Re installed in new ssd and all is good.

Thanks for replying! I'm not sure how many patches are actually needed, but I believe there's a way to find out how many were installed, as I remember seeing a list with some ticks against them.

I may have encountered a small issue with the patcher. I'm unable to see 5.0 GHz WiFi networks at all in patched Catalina. They are visible and connect without issue on Windows 10. I don't have an officially supported macOS version to check on right now (that's how confident I am in patched Catalina!), but can install one if this might help with troubleshooting.

System Details: MacBook Pro 5,5 2.26 GHz
APFS BootROM patch applied: Yes
WiFi card: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0
Patcher used: dosdude's

I'm not sure whether this has been addressed and I'm just not using the search function properly... or maybe it's a weird hardware issue that only presents in macOS. It's not causing any real issues as I'm still getting fairly good speeds on the 2.4 GHz network and it's a backup laptop anyway, just thought I'd mention it to see if there's an easy fix.

Thanks!

Edit to add: I've just installed El Capitan on another partition and it can see 5.0 GHz networks, so this does seem to confirm that it's not a hardware issue.

So, now, do you get properly boot screen with Catalina 10.15.4 in new ssd?

After patching with 1.4.1 patcher I get the Chrome Browser crashes when it starts.
Here is the error message:

[automerge]1586339728[/automerge]
Even the re-installation of chrome browser does not help!
This is impressive!
[automerge]1586339987[/automerge]
I tried other browsers with the same engine like microsoft edge and I get the same behaviour!

I "successfully" installed 10.15.4 on my HackBookPro6,2 using a USB Installer that I created with DosDude Catalina Patcher 1.4.1.

At the end of the first pass of the install (where the Catalina USB installer creates the Catalina installer on the SSD), I ignored the error "An error occurred while preparing the installation" and rebooted from the newly created Catalina Installer on the SSD (which was created despite the error).

At the end of the second pass of the install (running the Catalina installer on the SSD), I ignored the error "The bless tool was unable to set the current boot disk" and rebooted from the upgraded Catalina container.

After booting the upgraded Catalina, I manually deleted '/System/Volumes/Data/macOS Install Data.'

While my Catalina version is reported as 10.15.4, I am not confident that the upgrade fully completed (because of the install errors). So far, everything seems to be working exactly as in 10.15.3 with no problems.
