Hello everyone,
would like some help in two things that is happening with me and at least another user,
First I have tried most recent patcher on a MacBook Pro 17" from early 2011, and the FaceTime camera doesn't work, opens up and glitches, it works fine in Mojave also pathed and in High Sierra Officially supported, so it's definitely not a hardware issue,
the second situation is a little more complicated, my AMD 6750 HD is working fine so I don’t want to disable It, I use it in windows 10 for some light gaming and autocad tools.
in mojave I use the " gswitch " app to force Mojave to only use intel 3000 so I have full graphics acceleration, although it recognizes the AMD but I know it has no graphics acceleration from Mojave forward.
unfortunately " gswitch " or "igfx" do not work in macOS Catalina. So to my limited knowledge on the matter I have no way to force Macos Catalina to only use the integrated intel 3000, it only wants to use the dedicated Amd with no full acceleration...
so my question is, is there a terminal command or some other miracle app to force macOS Catalina to only use the integrated graphics???
thanks in advance for the help!
Well since nobody even glanced at what the hell I wrote, I am pleased to say that I have figured out my own solutions to the problems that I was facing above!
So I hope this helps out some other poor soul out there!
So here It goes: After gswitch and igfx not working in macOS Catalina, I thought I would try a last but risky solution, I noticed that
@dosdude1 had written an app called " MacBook Pro dGPU Disabler " for this model, he instructed that before using this app you would have to boot on safe mode and change a bunch of values etc etc and lastly you would run the MacBook Pro dGPU Disabler, but since I didn't want to disable it in hardware because I use it in Windows, I just wanted it dead in macOS itself, I ran it without doing any of the steps in the latest patched installation that I had just made, so his app removes the AMD kexts properly from the system and does a little something to prevent them form appearing again, so after rebooting to my surprise I have only my Intel HD 3000 recognized on the monitor preferences with automatic gpu switch disabled in energy preferences, although it shows in system report if you check but macOS never uses it, I opened a crap load of apps and all was smooth as butter meaning it's always using the integrated Intel so YAY!!! And what's even more shocking is that it fixed my FaceTime issue also!!! It turns out FaceTime being all glitchy was because of the AMD card taking the lead, so that got fixed also! I've already booted back into Windows back and forth and Windows uses the AMD card as normal, and only macOS Catalina uses the Intel 3000. Another funny trick that I found out, in your monitor preferences in the color part, if you use the " sRGB IEC61966-2.1 " In light or dark mode you don't get any of those weird window glitches you sometimes get in other color profiles!
So everything is working good! And since I didn't change any values to disable AMD in hardware, Brightness buttons work fine, as well as thunderbolt! What you won't have working in macOS Catalina external display ( because it uses dedicated GPU for that RIGHT ??? ) But external display with thunderbolt does work on Windows because AMD is alive there.
Thanks to everyone who read this.
