No I have not upgraded waiting patiently for the Big Sur patcher and yes it is possible but it’s a lot of work without the Patcher
[automerge]1593586367[/automerge]
There is an app I use also called liteicon that works
Thanks Tim. So will wait. Haven't been around much , as of now still on Cat 10.15.4. Will update only once last of Catalina is officially out .
Will make separate drive for Big Sur over the Cat. Cheers;)

Dosdude has been on vacation so hopefully this week or next he will start on the patcher but it’s a hard task at hand as you can’t boot live in Big Sur it creates a snapshot and seals it and once it seals you can’t make any changes and many other changes

Unfortunately, version 4.1 doesn't work for me. Is there anything special I should do, like running it as root or the like?

Hello all. I'm trying to point my Catallina Home directory to another disk, but it doesn't seem to work. I've been reading through this forum and haven't found info - maybe someone can help ?

I am used to having MacOS and my Data on separate disks. The OS sits on a PCIE-card for optimal speed, my User Data sits on a 2TB SSD. In Mojave and earlier OSes, I know that I have to go into System Preferences / Users, select my user, select Advanced, and set the correct path to the Home Disk on the separate SSD.

When I try this in Catalina (installed with the latest patcher from DosDude), this doesn't work. System Preferences is supposed to shut down gracefully but it doesn't, and when I restart manually the path to the Home Directory on the separate SSD is shown but when I clic on Documents in the Finder, I get a warning that the origin location can't be found.
I CAN navigate to the separate SSD in the Finder and work from there, but it woud be easier not to have to this every time.

Does this have anything to do with the fact that Catalina uses a separate DATA volume? I can see this sitting in the Disk Utility.

Is there something I can do to continue working in the way that I'm used to? Or anything else that I should change in settings?

Thanks for all replies and suggestions. Cheers,

Willem

You mean your hdd/ssd on the desktop I have those and to add it on the desktop it under Finder/Preferences once on the desktop right click-get info highlight the icon at the top left corner of the one you will be replacing then drag the one you want to use to the highlighted one light or dark
"Catalina" (diskXs5) has a .VolumeIcon.icns link to a .VolumeIcon.icns file on "Catalina - Data" (diskXs1). Maybe both should be replaced with a non-linked icns - which is necessary if you boot a different OS and still want to see the icon.

The NVRAM command should be changed to only append -no_compat_check if it does not already exist - or perhaps it shouldn't exist in a script that is only meant to change the icon.

Code:

That is the normal Calendar Icon as it can't be changed

OK, I actually think it's simpler
I think I found something in Calendar.app/Contents/Resources/Calendar.docktileplugin/Contents/MacOS/Calendar I will look a little in this hex file...
This file is identical on Mojave and Catalina but radically different on Big Sur (but I knew that...)

Many thanks for your help. My customized HDD icon for Catalina has been manually reinstated thanks to your help. For me, the final piece of the puzzle was in the symlink at root level of the volume. I simply tarred the symlink of the old volume with the functional icon, moved the tar.gz to the new volume and untarred it. After deleting the no longer necessary tar, everything was done. Thanks again!

Hi Guys, I have a Mac Pro 3.1 running Catalina and it runs great thanks to Dosdude1, I have been using a hdmi lead to my monitor and that is okay, but now I have upgraded my monitor to one with a DP port on, I have a GTX 680 2GB with DP port on, but can't seem to get a feed from it to the monitor, HDMI works fine so does DVI, do I have to patch updater or get a driver maybe?

Thanks in advance

Hi @TimothyR734
While waiting to search in Calendar.app/Contents/Resources/Calendar.docktileplugin/Contents/MacOS/Calendar file
I found a simple alternative, use the Big Sur calendar icon with the same tilt angle as the old icon ...
I also created an icon for firefox which fits much better. ;)
Have you also replaced your system folder icons? I have not yet found them under Big Sur so I have tried to recreat them as faithfully as possible.

Hi @jackluke , I have a milllion dollars question about Catalina. When I click on Google Chrome icon on dock, the first time It do nothing, from the second click I only hear "dong" on click, if I continue for about 10 clcks and dong the icon moves 1 time, then stops. The next click finally moved 3 times, it opens working perfectly. I have asked to Google Support (they suggested me to reinstall It from Mac Apple Store (It has never been available there ????) reinstalled Chrome, cleared browser cache, removed browser extensions, checked permissions RW on Google Chrome folder... Used Clean my Mac and Macbooster 8, Etrechecks for malwares. Have you a simplex fix? ?

Try from Catalina terminal: open ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/

and maybe make a backup of that Chrome folder, then delete its content, and retry to launch Chrome.

Thank you, tryed but mistery continues, I have made a silly horrible script that reload Chrome in background after boot 20 times ?

My bad for the retarded answer. Yes! The Office 365 16.38 (last version) works well on macOS Catalina 10.15.5, Powerpoint included
Good to hear that... but in my case with same Catalina version and Office 365 version, I couldn't get slide transitions to work. The same presentation in Keynote works as a charm. Damn!

Thank for your reply.

Ok I've managed to install a fully working 10.5.2 a few weeks ago on my Mac Pro 3,1 using dosdude's patcher (thanx a lot) but is a bit buggy. It somehow has slow response using LPX 10.5.1 and also Firefox has slow response. Could this be a graphics issue? I use a Sapphire HD7950. And also how can I update to the latest version of Catalina?

P.S: I'm also considering Big Sur but it's a bit too early for me

Ok I've managed to install a fully working 10.5.2 a few weeks ago on my Mac Pro 3,1 using dosdude's patcher (thanx a lot) but is a bit buggy. It somehow has slow response using LPX 10.5.1 and also Firefox has slow response. Could this be a graphics issue? I use a Sapphire HD7950. And also how can I update to the latest version of Catalina?

P.S: I'm also considering Big Sur but it's a bit too early for me
download the latest version of the Catalina Patcher 1.4.4, then download the ;latest version of Catalina, format your usb extended-journaled create an new Patcher with the latest version of Catalina then booting the patcher and install then apple the post install patches after its down installing

Oooook. I was hoping for an easier way. That was the way I installed 10.5.2 (at the time) but I was hoping that it could just update as a normal (supported) Mac . But thanx anyway
