Hi there

Sorry I got kinda lost in this enormous post...
Here's my iMac details, running on mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G13035)

Will I get in some troubles (some apps not running? slow as a escargot? ...) if I try to update with Mojave patcher? Main reason why I want it is to get Messages in dark mode... Can't stand that white messaging mode anymore, while my FB Messenger & WhatsApp for Mac are in dark...

Big thanks!

iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)
2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
500 GB SATA Disk

http://dosdude1.com/catalina/ known issues

AMD/ATI Radeon HD 5xxx and 6xxx series graphics acceleration: Currently, it is not possible to achieve full graphics acceleration under Catalina on any machines that use a Radeon HD 5xxx or 6xxx series GPU. If you have a machine with one of these GPUs installed, I'd advise upgrading it if possible (can be done in 2010/2011 iMacs, iMac11,x-12,x), disabling the dedicated GPU if using a 2011 15" or 17" MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,2/8,3, instructions to do so can be found here), or not installing Catalina. Running Catalina without full graphics acceleration will result in extremely poor system performance.

Same holds true for Mojave.

The solution is near, just a few clicks away....you can get native metal support using another graphics card.

Dot 6 beta 4 is out.
On MBP5,2 beta 4 installed OTA and running fine, transparency is there.
(usual tools - CatalinaOTAswufix, OpenCore boot for 2nd OTA phase, 1.4.4 post-install patches, patch updater for NightShift)

I have a question for all of you guys?... I wanna begin to learn swift to develop universal apps can I do it on Catalina or I need Big sur and beta xcode for that? (building Universal apps) cause my Mac is a 7,1 whitebook that doesn't run big sur yet so... Can I do swift development for universal apps on Catalina?... And another thing... At the beginning of the year I installed swift playgrounds to try learning swift but it didn't run the code and crashed, this is a problem because of the lack of metal compatible card on my Mac?

I apologize LuisN that I wasn't able to articulate clearer. (1) I put the Crucial SSD in an external case and plug it into the the USB connector. (2) I rebooted from the original HDD to make sure macOS can read the external drive prior to me reformatting it. (3) I then rebooted from the dosdude1 High Sierra USB drive and installed the macOS onto the external Crucial SSD. (4 ) Once done, I shut down and replaced the internal HDD with external SDD which now has a dosdude1 installed High Sierra OS. (5) When I rebooted, it was showing the "Flashing folder with Question mark".

I took your recommendation and purchase another Hard Drive Flex Cable. I'm scheduled to receive it this coming Friday and once putting everything back together, I'm hopefully for a successful macOS install on the SSD. I'll report back on my status. I want to thank you again for your patience in helping me.

I took your advice and installed High Sierra on the SSD but on the next reboot I recieved the "Flashing folder with Question mark" again. I took LuisN recommendation and purchase another HDD Flex Cable. I'll let you know how it turned out. Thanks

LuisN and TimothyR734, after finally having time on my hands to replace the HDD Flex Cable, I wanted to touch base with you both to report that this solutioned worked. I was able to replace the cable, upgrade the HDD to SDD, and install macOS High Sierra without any issues. Once that was done, I moved on to installing macOS Catalina via DosDudes1 patch and that worked without a program. I would have placed bets that all the problems I had encountered wasn’t a result of a cable but it was. Thanks for all your help.

Hi, installed done in MacBook Pro 5.5.
Any application to improve performance ?, There was one tweak app to reduce the graphic load of the system, but I do not remember what it was called.

very good thank you Minh works good :)
Looks really good, but I cannot get it to run: Gatekeeper or Xprotect prohibit execution... "it´s recommended to discard the app to trash" or so. I even tried to self-sign it on my machine, which works without complaint but it still throws the same message and does not start...
(10.15.5 build F101).
Any clue here - or does it have to be compiled for that build of Catalina?

Since the source of the cable failure (vibration from the HDD) has been removed it is unlikely this cable failure will re-occur, SSDs do not vibrate. A strip of smooth electrical tape where the SATA imbilical meets the MB housing is good insurance in any event especially for those with the HDD remaining.

Thanks K two, i will do this.

I would give Onyx maintenance a try.

@jackluke I have workarounded it with this simple script
I would give Onyx maintenance a try.

@jackluke I have found this workaround that works. I launch a .command automatically after boot:

for i in {1..5}
do
open -g -a /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app
done

Chrome sings "dong" then opens. Sometimes it returns:

LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed for the application /Applications/Google Chrome.app with error -10810.

but opens without the need of clicking 20 times, and when opened the first time it continues to work until next reboot, also if I close it, not only when minimized :)
