Thank you, tryed but mistery continues, I have made a silly horrible script that reload Chrome in background after boot 20 times ?
Almost certainly the wrong way to do it, but I have a script that runs
sudo open /Applications/Google\ Chrome.app
and it works. Every time I upgrade Chrome or reboot I have to run it again, but aside from that I can start Chrome normally after sudo-ing it once.

YMMV - Good Luck!

Hi all,
I am running a Mac Pro 3,1 desktop with an EFI flashed NVidia GTX680 4GB video card and Mac OS Catalina using this patcher tool. It is working great, except for the graphics card HDMI Audio output not working. System Report shows it as "no driver installed" and the audio settings menu doesn't have an option for HDMI audio output. It works in Windows on the same Mac Pro though. Does anyone here have an idea how I can fix that?
If it won't be possible, I also have a Radeon HD 7950 GPU that I can flash and install in the Mac Pro. Would that help?
Did you find a solution for this? I have the same problem with a Mac Pro 3,1 on 15.10.2 with dosdude1 patcher with 8Gb RAM and MSI GT710. I used Hackintool to install the following combinations of kexts into Library/Extensions:
Lilu + AppleALC
Lilu + WhateverGreen
Lilu + AppleALC + WhateverGreen
They all yielded the same results which are that I get HDMI audio but also LOSE all other audio Output options. I am able to revert by deleting the kexts. I should note that even though I get results, the Hackintool log lists a bunch of kext with invalid signature errors.

Hi all,
I sent to @ASentientBot in the private conversation a few days ago and I share this information with everyone.

I don't think this is too significant, and maybe, this will be irrelevant to 99,9% of people on this thread and nVidia Tesla users, but I've figured out how to avoid the KP without NOP in GeForceTesla main binary to the position 0x5cf9f. Just move the call to the 0xc8 position (instead of 0xc0), like two or three lines above, it references the same Struct.

I have been using it for days and no problem. (MPB 15" with gt330m)

Hopefully that helps someone!

Could you share where you got the installer from?
At the time I downloaded the copy, 10.5.2 was the latest release. I used dosdude's patcher tool with has the option to download Catalina. I just used the tool. dosdude's Catalina Patcher
[automerge]1594219982[/automerge]
Ok new issue. I don't know if this is wrong, but in my extensions I see that there are several AMD versions. From 40xx to 67xx but only 40xx is enabled. I have a Sapphire HD7950. Is this an issue? Does this have to do with the buggy interface in LPX? Thanx in advance

Need help- got my Mac Pro 5,1 to Catalina 10.15.5 with the help of dosdude1’s catalina patcher. All was okay till about a week ago when I shut down and couldnt restart. No picture on monitor. I have tried resetting smc/pmu with no success. Zapping pram does nothing. I am also stuck in a startup loop, that is, the startup chime plays once then hiccups and repeats. I have tried using the recovery partition, and I can get to dosdude1’s version of it, but when i try to reinstall the os it gives me a message about not being able to download certain components and try again later, so, no good. I have 48 meg of ram and a sapphire hd7950 Mac video card with the switch in position 2. I was able to See something when I plugged an hdmi cable into the card, but on displayport, nothing, I’m stumped.. so any help/replies appreciated.. I’m up shhh..creek for no w...thanks..John b

EXTERNAL BOOT DRIVE? – I installed Catalina on an early 2009 iMac 24" using dosdude1's tools, with great success. Works very well, even runs Office 365. But the old iMac is ....slow.... The iMac has USB 2.0 and Firewire 800 ports.

I wanted to boot from an external SSD to speed up the iMac. The idea was to boot from USB (2.0!) to start with, and then get a different adapter and boot from the Firewire port.

Two issues:

1. Attached a 256GB Samsung SSD to the iMac with an adapter cable I put in a USB port. The clone with SuperDuper went fine and reported no errors. However, while I can select the SSD as the startup disk, upon reboot, the Mac actually starts from the old hard drive. And when I do restart-Option key, the SSD is not shown as a boot device.

Has anyone cloned a Catalina dosdude1 drive to an external SSD and gotten the external drive to work as the startup disk connected by USB 2.0 on an old Mac?

2. Perhaps just as disappointing, I found in an obscure Apple page that said starting with a recent Catalina version, boot from Firewire has been removed. There goes all the fun, because a Firewire startup SSD would be really fast. So maybe I have to re-do the entire patch process with Mojave, and boot on Firewire from that.

Has anyone cloned a Mojave dosdude1 drive to an external SSD and gotten the external drive to work as the startup disk connected by Firewire 800 on an old Mac?

Any help, procedures, adaptions, tips, suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you.

Nonsense. It will be slower than internal. Swap the internal drive to SSD, it's not that hard, or don't even bother with running the OS.

Are you sure you used a version of SuperDuper that is able to create a bootable Catalina clone? There is a known limitation in APFS implementation in Catalina that makes the clones non-bootable. CarbonCopyCloner >5.1.18 is able to create a bootable clone.

2. Perhaps just as disappointing, I found in an obscure Apple page that said starting with a recent Catalina version, boot from Firewire has been removed. There goes all the fun, because a Firewire startup SSD would be really fast.

Trust me, it won't be.

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 on 15.10.2 with dosdude1 patcher with 8Gb RAM and MSI GT710. I was running El Capitan when I tried to install 10.15.5 with Patcher 1.4.4, I kept getting stuck at the Apple screen with trying to start up from the USB Drive created by the patcher. Since I had been successful with the patcher previously on my MacMini (Mid 2010 4,1) with patcher 1.2.3 and 10.15.2, found the Patcher and Catalina Installer I had downloaded back then and tried again. Now I would like to update both machines to 10.15.5 but I would hate to have to erase my system drive now. Is there a way to update without erasing the drive?

Hi all,

I need some help with my iMac 7,1 2007 24” P9300. Before upgrading to Catalina, I had some issues where it would only boot in safe mode. I have tried everything, from a disk utility repair, to a fresh macOS install, to repatching my system, to a NVRAM and SMC reset. I was thinking since upgrading to APFS and a new boot efi, that it may fix the issue. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve only upgraded because the version of iTunes on Mojave is old and cannot sync iOS 13.4.1 devices. But now in Catalina safe mode, I am not even able to connect a device or charge one. I believe this has something to do with safe Mode, but it was working before in Mojave so I’m not sure. Please help me to get this system booting up normally. Thank you in advance!!

Create new usb patcher and install on top of current installation. It will NOT erase any settings, documents or programs. DO backup BEFORE!!!
Thanks for the quick reply. I've been doing a back up of my boot drive with SupeDuper from an internal SSD to an external USB Drive. About 79 GB and it's up to 12 hours now ?. But doing it in preparations to do just what you said but I wanted confirmation. I was also able to make the Catalina 10.15.5 USB installer with Patcher 1.4.4 but I have my worries since I tried to launch the Installer from that drive while on my current system just to see if it would run and it failed to launch. So I'll try anyway after my backup finishes and I'll let you know how it goes for the benefit of any other users who might be interested.

Maybe test the installer with some external usb drive first? Just to see if it's working as expected?

Hi LuisN - yes APFS, with GUID Partition Map.

Thanks for the guidance, hwojtek! I will try the latest CarbonCopyCloner and see of the resulting clone is bootable on USB 2.0. I would expect that an external drive, even SSD, over USB 2.0 may be slow, but I'm hoping to get a feel for it and will report the result. And am still tempted to set up Mohave OS from dosdude1, because elsewhere I've read that over Firewire 800, OS performance is quite good. Have you tried running OS X some flavor on an external disk using Firewire 800?

If you boot with alt/option pressed, unless you patched your EFI with dosdude1's APFS patcher, your computer can't see any APFS formatted drives. alt/option key intercepts the boot process before it loads the "verbose text" thing which is the APFS boot loader. There's an opencore method to do so that was discussed intros thread and I think someone was able to do it with refine but I'm not sure.
Did you try to select the external boot drive in control panel?

Thanks again. I finished the backup and attempted the install but I got the "This copy of the Install macOS Catalina application is damaged, and can't be used to install macOS." window. Which is weird since I downloaded a copy of the installer during the Patcher process even though I already had one. I'll try again with a different thumb drive.

Got a question... I switched from dosdude1 to OpenCore and lost Wi-Fi (ordered a BCM94360) but in the event that I want the BCM94322 back working on 10.15.5, do I need to replace the kext? What kext should I use?

Have you tried running OS X some flavor on an external disk using Firewire 800?

Yepp, I did it all, USB2, USB3, FW800 on a Mac Mini 2012. The only interface that rendered the computer somewhat usable was USB3 with a SSD. On FW800 it was about as fast as USB2 albeit more responsive (less beachballing).
Keep in mind it was only done while cloning the disk to an external one when I was swapping the internal to a new one and cloning back, so no extensive testing. But judging by boot times alone, I would not use an external disk as my daily driver.
What is also quite an obvious observation: that the more RAM you have, the less perceivable impact from the interface you use for the hard disk. Above 16 GB RAM the Mini was fairly responsive as the OS caches whatever it sees fit.

Still, that does not replace an internal SATA SSD.

Hey, @TimothyR734 will it work on my iMac 9,1 ATI 4850?

Hey bud,

Can you say me how does Catalina goes in your iMac? I have also a 27 late 2009 and thinking about install Catalina by the patcher. I saw that you had some problems with Safari extensions, right?

Can you use directly the App Store to install security updates like in a native system?

Thanks

I've successfully updated my iMac 27 Late 2009 to Catalina 10.15.5. Do we need to wait for patcher updates to update the version we are on going forward? For example, there's a supplemental update today that doesn't show up in the Updates screen.

Hey bud, I have the same iMac. It goes well? Should I install Catalina? Currently on High Sierra.

Thanks

Hi there

Sorry I got kinda lost in this enormous post...
Here's my iMac details, running on mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G13035)

Will I get in some troubles (some apps not running? slow as a escargot? ...) if I try to update with Mojave patcher? Main reason why I want it is to get Messages in dark mode... Can't stand that white messaging mode anymore, while my FB Messenger & WhatsApp for Mac are in dark...

Big thanks!

iMac (21.5-inch, Mid 2011)
2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
500 GB SATA Disk
