So after a couple attempts to get Catalina working on my 5,1 Mac Pro, I finally got it to work by installing straight to a drive. The External boot drive setup did not work. The problem I now have is that I have dual monitors running on my Nitro+ RX580 and only the DVI output is working. The other monitor is using Display Port. I've had zero issues with Mojave using this setup. Now even in Mojave I get only the DVI monitor. Was it the disable SIP step in the process that caused this? This issue started after doing that in the process to get Catalina to install. I've since tried to enable SIP but still only one monitor.

nevermind..... unplugging the monitor brought it back, just turning the monitor on/off with the power button wasn't good enough. ?‍♂️

Hello,
I have a Macmini 5.1
after an update from 10.15.4 to 10.15.6 with dosdude's tool 1.4.4, i don't see any users logging in anymore.
I can't login on 10.15.6.

I followed dosdude's video instructions.
What can I still do there?
Thanks for your help

I note on the iMac forum there is a new member who claims to have a late 2006 iMac5,1 running Catalina. In part this apparently was performed by: "I needed to replace boot efi with 32 bit version, copied all the kexts from lion drivers and it worked that's all it not hard plus used a rom patcher for APFS and for more memory."
Could @0403979 or @dosdude1 or anyone else in the know involved in this Catalina thread please comment accordingly, as it would appear to put into question the 2008 iMac8,1 as being the earliest supported iMac. ?

That's impossible because Sierra and newer require Penryn CPUs with SSE4. The iMac5,1, and even the iMac7,1, have Merom CPUs by default, and only the 7,1's CPU can be upgraded.

I do not have an iMac but a MacMini 5.1
No, I wasn't referring to your post. The user on the iMac forum specifically stated she had an iMac5.1
The fact that you have a MacMini5.1 is a slightly confusing coincidence, which of course appears supported with the Catalina patch.
Unfortunately I can't answer your query, but I'm sure someone else probably can.

Many thanks for your rapid reply. Just as I thought - Catalina on a iMac5.1 is a non starter.

The earliest supported iMac is the 7,1 (2007).

The earliest supported iMac is the 7,1 (2007). I can't say anything about iMac 2006 but it seems BS (not referring to Big Sur)

Hi, Can anyone confirm that an MVC Radeon RX 5700 XT will work with Catalina 10.15.6 Final in an MP5.1 system?

I have applied the Netkas/MVC 'fix' to work with 10.15.5 and all is well now!

I created my own Fusion Drive using the command line. My Mac is currently on High Sierra and the Fusion Drive is HFS. Do I need to erase my Fusion Drive and re-make it post-Catalina install? Or is there another method for making the Fusion Drive APFS?

I am unable to upgrade the Fusion Drive to APFS via Disk Utility, the option is greyed out in the settings

If you‘re trying this from the installer, you might have to unmount the volume first - it‘s then not greyed out any more.

Ah that would do it. I'm currently booted in to my High Sierra Mac so that would explain why it is greyed out

Would I use the Catalina installer or High Sierra installer to make the Fusion Drive APFS?

Would this also mean that I could do an in-place upgrade to APFS, and then upgrade to Catalina? Or would the act of turning my HFS Fusion Drive in to APFS delete my files?

any chance of an iMac 2011 (12,2) being able to have Catalina?
I've read so much conflicting information.
Mojave-patcher has a patch for non-Metal GPUs, does Catalina?

Yes, the patcher has the OpenGL support (instead of metal), quite the same as in Mojave (but with more tricky inner workings to get that done).
If your iMac does _not_ have AMD/ATI 5xxx or 6xxx cards (so, i.e. some 4xxx type) then you´re fine, otherwise (see page #1) you will not have graphics acceleration.

Updated Safari to version 14, Seed 1 on my unsupported MBP from 2009. Getting this error whenever I try to enable an extension:
"Safari detected an app or service that interfered with clicking."
What app or service is this? And is there a command that I can run from Terminal to permanently disable this app/ service that is interfering with clicking?
I checked the Learn More link, which only talks about booting into Safe Mode to enable extensions. And Google did not show any other results for this error.

I also updated to Safari 14 in my 10.15.6 setup, and saw the same error.
In my case I had enabled an extension by mistake. Disabled it then (even uninstalled I think). I think it was an ad blocker. In my case I don't miss Safari extensions. Maybe Safari wants to do such things on its own now.
What was a bit disturbing first is that Top Sites are no longer displayed, though you can still add bookmarks to them. Got used to favorites-only now, like Firefox has.

@dosdude1 has changed the default selection of patches with the 12,1 and 12,2 2011 iMacs. The legacy video patch will not be installed by default, in case you need it, you may boot into the patched installer later and do a manual selection of this or other patches.

You can even choose this new "install to this computer" mode without creating the bootable USB installer. Just download the patcher and new installer, fire up the patcher an follow the instructions on screen.

This does NOT work with the late 2009 and mid 2010 iMacs, here the legacy patch will be selected per default. You will not try to roll back the patches :). Of course creating a snapshot is always a good idea before starting the patching.
Tks for your inputs. will surely make my installation tension free.? I still have to select legacy video patch for my MacBook air mid 2011 4,2 I guess.
