Hi everyone! Hope you all are safe and returning to normal life after covid! I have a question I think may be off topic, but I think someone here already had same issue. I updated my MBP8,3 from Mojave 10.14.6 to Catalina 10.15.5, with a fresh install, using @dosdude1 patcher. Erased the SSD. After Catalina setup I reinstalled MS Office 2019 and all apps except Outlook are crashing on start. Sometimes on the 3rd try they run. I updated Office to 16.40 (insider fast) but didn't work. The machine is running better than on Mojave. Very stable and fast! Thanks @dosdude1 and all other members for the amazing patcher.

I guess I've patched the Catalina AirDrop to use AirDrop without a BT 4.0 usb dongle.

I've re-enabled the AirDrop legacy feature "Don't see who you're looking for?" and "Search for an Older Mac" that from Catalina was dropped.

"Older Macs" in AirDrop are considered by apple all the machines without a BT 4.0 internal device, so those with a BT 2.1 internal device.

Here are the steps from Catalina Terminal:

sudo mount -uw / ; killall Finder

open /System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/Base.lproj/

Ovewrite the file AirDropInfoView.nib attached with the one inside that path.

After replace no need to reboot just from Catalina Terminal: killall Finder

The only file attached is suffice in my case (probably because of my previous manual patch on the
Brcm4360 driver used) to allow using the BT 2.1 , but consider that some very legacy machines may need to replace from Mojave the entire folder attached, the Mojave AirDrop.app should be re-placed inside the /Catalina/System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Applications/

On the picture attached both the machines use their default Bluetooth 2.1+EDR internal device, the other one is MacBook7,1 with HighSierra installed, and the HS one can detect this Catalina MacBookPro6,2 .

Next picture I unplug this Catalina USB SSD external and plug to the MacBook7,1 and from MacBookPro6,2 I run a Mojave, lets check it out.

In both cases it's bidirectional working.

I've tried also from a MacBook7,1 Mavericks AirDrop to discover and be discovered from Catalina and it's totally working.

My AirDrop "Search for an Older Mac" method works also on Catalina supported Macs, that are not allowed to discover and be discovered from legacy machines, since apple dropped the "Search for an Older Mac" function from Catalina.

Instead replacing on a supported Catalina this AirDropInfoView.nib brings back that function, AirDrop will work and allow to discover/discovered also very legacy Macs (I guess until 10.7 OSX Lion when AirDrop was introduced by apple).

how do I overwrite the file? MacOs is not allowing me to drag and drop

I get this:
mount_apfs: volume could not be mounted: Operation not permitted
mount: / failed with 77

when I sudo kill finder and still can't drag and drop

does an error message pop up when you try opening Microsoft Word. etc If so leave the error message open close Microsoft Word and reopen Microsoft Word. Another solution is reboot your Mac into the Catalina Patcher and in the terminal nvram boot_args="-no_compat_check AMFI_get_out_of_my_way=1" and reboot back into Catalina and try

Hi all,

I need some help with my iMac 7,1 2007 24” P9300. Before upgrading to Catalina, I had some issues where it would only boot in safe mode. I have tried everything, from a disk utility repair, to a fresh macOS install, to repatching my system, to a NVRAM and SMC reset. I was thinking since upgrading to APFS and a new boot efi, that it may fix the issue. But that doesn’t seem to be the case. I’ve only upgraded because the version of iTunes on Mojave is old and cannot sync iOS 13.4.1 devices. But now in Catalina safe mode, I am not even able to connect a device or charge one. I believe this has something to do with safe Mode, but it was working before in Mojave so I’m not sure. Please help me to get this system booting up normally. Thank you in advance!!

I'm having a weird issue and I hope you guys can help me out. I have a Mid 2010, 15" MBP6,2. I've had Catalina 10.15.5 installed on it for a while. I wanted to install a separate volume with High Sierra. The install went well, backed up from an old High Sierra backup...

In High Sierra, I open Safari, go to YouTube and videos won't play. I open Netflix and I get the "Netflix system requirements for HTML5 Player and Silverlight" error.

What did I do wrong? I've had this computer dual booted in the past with HS and Cat with no issues.

Is it worth upgrading on a mid 2010 mbp with intel/nvidia 330m?
Is there hardware acceleration for 1080p videos in vlc like in High Sierra?
Any major issues?

Hi. Yesterday I updated Office 2019 to 16.40 and today the problem appears to be solved. I don't know if the update fixed it. I will update here soon. Thanks for the help @TimothyR734 !

Can you use Dosdude1's 1.4.4 patcher for 10.15.6 since it was set up for 10.15.5 on a 5.1 MacPro?

Edit: I noticed in the changelog: "This version also supports Catalina version 10.15.6"

Hi guys, thanks for getting my macbook 5.1 back to life after being forgotten for 6 years.
I just installed Catalina 10.15.5 on that macbook with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, everything runs in a good way.

But I have a couple of problems
First, i used Dosdude parcher and after the first install I couldn't get back in for the post install patches, when I reboot and pressing Option it only shows my EFI Boot disk but not Catalina USB Bootable, I re-created Another one bootable from Catalina and is not shown when restarting, but I can enter the usb files once catalina is run.

I assume that not being able to run the post installation patches is what causes my second problem, I can't configure my trackpad, appears "waiting to detect bluetooth trackpad", I saw a comment from @TimothyR734 where is attached a file for macbook 5.2 solving tracjpad issues and others recommend the post-install patch, trackpad issues posted by (@fabiojuniorr, @mwakious and @Aww Shucks ) but I don't know if It works with mine and if something can go wrong if I try.

i hade the same problem, install first the file from the updater then install this file and then reboot. If you already installed from the updater re-install it.

donwload catalina patcher from dosdude1, create a usb installation and boot this usb, when the install is complete, boot again the usb and apply patches.

I don't know if post installation patches are needed to fix that problem and maybe others that are but I haven't found yet or if replacing a file can correct the trackpad problem is enough.

Thanks so much for any help.

try resetting your pram command-option-P and R on boot up then try booting in the Catalina Patcher another thing you can try if you have a removable battery power off your MacBook, unplug everything even your usb's, hubs , power cord then remove your battery then hit the power button a few time then replace your battery plug in your power cord and everything else then power on

yes you can use Catalina Patcher 1.4.4 to download 10.15.6 creat a new patcher then install over your existing macOS Catalina

Yep, I used 1.4.4 to download Catalina and I can’t install it. In 6 min left it just restart
boot into your Catalina Patcher open the terminal type in nvram boot-args="-no_compat_check amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1" and see that helps and also make sure your SIP is disabled
