Never had a problem with Google Chrome Version 85.0.4183.121 (Official Build) (64-bit)
or Microsoft Word 16.41
on my MacPro3,1 running Catalina 10.15.7 currently.

I wanted to come back to a known issue - not being able to enable Safari extensions. This has affected both "patched" Catalina set-ups as well as supported machines. In Catalina 10.15.7, Safari (which previously would simply not react to the mouse click trying to enable the extension) now displays an error message stating that some app or service has been detected that made Safari decide not to allow enabling clicking to enable an extension. There is actually now a website about this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211233. But it still fails.

I am on a Mac mini sever late 2011 with Catalina patcher, 10.15.7, Safari 14. For me, all known workarounds to the above problem (such as positioning the window in a special way, booting in safe mode and doing it there) fail. I even did a complete vanilla reinstall without any third party software; the issue is still there.

Did anyone succeed in enabling a disabled Safari extension on a patched Catalina system? Don't try it on extensions that are currently enabled, as you can disable then, but might not be able to re-enable them. Install some new extension and try it on that one.

I think that there is something in dosdude1's Catalina patch that triggers the (probably still buggy, but Apple seems to think it is fine) synth click defense mechanism of the latest Safari version.

I wonder whether dosdude could have a look into this. Most probably, rebooting to safe mode and then temporarily killing some patched process that even runs in safe mode, for the sole purpose of enabling an extension would, do the trick, and I would be fine with this solution; we just need to know which process to kill.

Day to all.
Just did a clean install of 10.15.7 to my MacPro 3.1 with dosdude patcher. All is working OK, but 2 things.
1. internet connection works fine, but I don't get a speed readout in activity monitor for downloads. It stays on 0 all the time, same as iStat menus. I do get a download speed per process, but not combined (pic 1 & 2)
2. the icloud ID picture shows up in system preferences and disappears randomly.

Did anyone have such problems? Screenshot 2020-09-27 at 08.38.07.jpg Screenshot 2020-09-27 at 08.40.30.jpg

Short question to everyone because I'm unable to figure it out myself. I successfully upgraded my 2008 Mac Pro to Catalina with a GeForce 710. I want to upgrade the old Cinema Display to a Cinema Display LED one now. I absolutely have no needs for graphics compute power, the machine is used pretty much as just a file server.
Can anybody tell me if theres a low to mid budget Kepler GPU with Display Port?

(MBP5,2). As for your point 1, I have that 0 for download speed in activity monitor and iStat since the beginning of Catalina, and still in 10.15.7, and in Big Sur. At least when using wired ethernet; for WIFI it is non-0 and looks OK in my case.
If I remember correctly others have reported that on this thread as well.

Used the dosdude1 downloader function to get the installer for 10.15.7, patched it and can confirm it all runs well, even on a MacBook Pro 4,1 (2008, glossy screen which does not have the CCFL backlight issue as the matte ones).
Page #1 updated accordingly.
Thanks for keeping page 1 up to date.

On MBP5,2, as you did, used the full installer downloaded with patcher 1.4.4, and made a bootable USB installer with this patcher. Installed fully automatically to my internal SATA SSD which had 10.15.6 supplemental before.

I also did an OTA install of 10.15.7 over 10.15.6s on an external USB clone SSD, using CatalinaOTAswufix, OpenCore loader created with USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3b, and patcher 1.4.4, like TimothyR734 did. Worked equally well.

I'll keep the latest Catalina installers, patchers, and OTA tools in a safe place for the rest of the life of my MBP5,2, in case Big Sur remains unfeasible for production on non-Metal machines.
Thanks dosdude, jackluke, and all!

Successfully installed 10.15.7 Delta via Softwareupdate and again, CatalinaOTAswufix on a cMP 4,1/5,1. Everything's working.

Only noticeable issue after re-applying the dosdude patches via Catalina Patcher booted from a USB stick was that Audio output didn't show all of the output devices. I've run the USB created with v.1.4.4 again and found a 'Volume Output Patch' that wasn't checked in the pre-selection for a Mac Pro 5,1. Although not sure at all if this patch was intended for the Mac Pro, I've added it additionally and re-applied the patches again, and voilà, all Audio output devices showed up. HTH someone.

Succesfully installed macOS 10.15.7 on Mac mini 2010 (internal SSD) using @dosdude1 macOS Catalina Patcher 1.4.4 (option Install on this computer, without an USB Pendrive) over 10.15.6 keeping all the applications installed. I have reinstalled Night Shift as offered by patch updater.

I’ve just ran Swift Playgrounds in macOS and found that many of the graphical playground books to not function. The error message was always:

There was a problem running this page. Check your code for problems. If you are stuck, start over to delete all your changes on this page and try again.

I’m pretty sure it wasn’t my code’s problem since I’ve downloaded these and run it without modifications.

These playground books have been tested to not work on a patched Catalina:
  • Sonic Workshop (Swift 5.1)
  • Sonic Create (Swift 5.1)
  • Blu’s Adventure (Swift 5.1)
However these playground books worked:
  • Graphing (Swift 5.1)
  • Blank (and added a simple “print hello world” statement).
Environment:
  • Playgrounds 3.3 (1167.17)
  • macOS Catalina 10.15.5 (19F96)
  • Catalina Patcher 1.4.4
  • MacBook Air 13-inch, Mid 2011
Is there any tweak I can do to make these playgrounds work?

is there any solution for swift playgrounds ?

hi to all.
after normal instal of 10.15.7 and setting all things up, I did a migration assistant copy of my other user.
All worked great until I restarted. Now Im stuck on startup screen with full progress bar.
Did reapply patches but no luck.
Anyone know how to boot ? 91EB843B-A7E4-44B7-8900-CAA88A838A7D.jpeg

Similar config to yours. Running 15.7 without any patches (presently using open core). OTA update with no issues.

Hello,

I've 2 questions,

1: does latest @dosdude1 patcher download 10. 15.7?

2: since i started my Mac today, about 60 minutes ago, my fans don't stop spinning, computer is slow... yesterday it was ok, i didn't do anything abnormal, didn't install anything...
can you please look at my screen record and perhaps have a clue from what is going on?

MacBook Pro late 2011 16gb Ram, 250Gb ssd, Intel Hd 3000 graphic card
System Version: macOS 10.15.5 (19F96)
Kernel Version: Darwin 19.5.0

Thanks!

This might not be a Catalina Patcher specific issue. Check out some of the solutions mentioned here:

On my iMac mid 2007 7,1 20-inch, I installed a 1Tb SSD, the T9500, the max of 6GB of memory and a OSXWiFi - iMac 2007 iMac 2008 - Handoff Continuity - Broadcom BCM94360CD - 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC Bluetooth 4.0. I installed the Catalina DosDude Patcher (Version 10.15.6) and the system runs incredibly well.

I get the Apple Watch password capability, though I am not yet able to auto unlock with my watch. I have AirDrop, handoff and high speed internet. I can watch Apple TV movies smoothly.

So much works well. The Catalina Patcher wit the above mods runs remarkably well on this old machine - only a little slower than my 2016 MacBook Pro.

The last two things I need to get to work is iMovie and Microsoft Teams. These apps crash. I have yet to find a solution to get these to work. I have tried iMovie 10.1.2 through 10.1.9 and none will install. 10.1.10 on up will install but will crash when I add a project.

Microsoft Teams will install but won't load - period.

By the way, I can run VirtualBox with a virtual machine loaded with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.10 loaded from the original install disks

I wiped my hard drive and used DosDude's patcher to install 10.15.7 and all worked flawlessly. The patcher downloaded the most recent version.

DosDude's method is solid and reliable.

I had hoped the update would fix these issues, but I still have the same problems with iMovie and Microsoft Teams. Could these apps be made to work, or is it a lost cause?

I am hoping to use this machine for my kid's distance learning.

Thanks in advanced!

Hi Pluda, Installed and running 15.7 on MBP early 2011 with no problems, sluggishness or fan speed issues (I am running TGPro to regulate fans however with d-GPU disabled (defective). Had to run "nvram boot-args=amfi_get_out_of_my_way=0x1" to enable proper functioning of certain apps (MS Office, etc.). Hope this helps

I managed to flash my GTX 780M.
I can't install Catalina. I did Dosdude step by step and when selecting the boot, the progress bar goes up and stops at the end.

What can this be?

it did help, I signed out of Apple ID and now fans stoped and my Mac is running great.
I've also updated to 10.15.7 via dosdude1.

I don't have discrete GPU, but loging out of Apple ID did kill the accountsd process and fans are now stoped.
I've also updated to 10.15.7 via dosdude1.

What can this be?
This can be simply a bad graphics card. At the end of the progress bar the video handling goes over to the MacOS drivers and the graphics mode will be enabled. If the GPU fails to do so you can have several symptoms. One is sticking at the progress bar.
Have you checked the 780M before with any other MacOS, probably the last supported version, High Sierra? Are you sure this card is running and working properly.

I did at least 20 different Catalina installations using the @dosdude1 patcher on my 2011-780M without any problems, so far!
