Running 10.15.7 dosdude on early 2008 iMac.
I have several programs that simply won't launch, but others launched and ran a few times but now refuse to load, and just give a crash report. Graphic Converter and CleanMyMac X are two major ones. Here's the Graphic Converter report. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It seems the same issue I talked in this posts:

I noticed the issue first of all with BBedit, but later with other softwares too. While until now no others seemed to have this issue, I guessed it's related to my MacBook Pro faulty GPU or the way I disabled it. But what you are describing, seems really the same issue. Do you have a faulty, or for other reasons disabled, AMD GPU?
Anyway, I found that switching to another user and launching the app, restore it to work with my user too. And some time, after some tries to open it with right-click and open command from contextual menu, restores the application too, even without switching to another user.
I hope there will be a solution that will definitively solve this issue.

Follow up--discovered that it's apparently Catalina, not the app itself. I first tried completely uninstalling the recalcitrant app. downloading the newest version, and reinstalling. But that didn't solve anything. Here's the sequence:
1. double click on file--nothing; click on app itself--nothing
2. select app in apps folder, try to open with finder command "open"
3. get the crash report above
4. repeat step 2--now app opens and runs with no problem

THEN:

5. put computer to sleep overnight
6. next morning, multiple programs bounce in dock but won't open
7. restart
8. now programs which bounced open fine
9. try to open original app, return to step 1!! Maddening.....

So it seems to me that the app is fine, but Catalina needs help. Searches reveal that a lot of people are having similar problems, and Apple is aware of them but apparently doing nothing about it. Trying to see now if putting the Mac to sleep overnight is part of the problem. But at least there's a way to open the app if I really need it. I used to like Apple; started with a IIsi. Always felt that it was "my" computer to configure to suit what I was doing, but now I feel more like it's Apple's computer and they're just letting me play with it a little.

Isn't post #9,557 sorts out the problem?
I had this as well and it comes back sometimes...

Run "sudo nvram boot-args=amfi_get_out_of_my_way=0x1" in Terminal then reboot.

I tried Dosdude1's command, and for now all works well. But because it's s random issue, I can't say for sure.
But as I used the last patcher (version 1.4.4), shouldn't this problem be solved at root?
Anyway, thanks for your suggestion. Even I give a look to the older posts, I didn't notice the one you reported (or any other on this issue).
Maybe, it's worth to add a note about the issue and how to resolve it in first page of this thread.

Just out of curiosity, but did you do a fresh install of Catalina using DosDudes 1.4.4 patcher?

The only time I've run into this issue is with one application that specifically required SSE 4.2.2, namely Photoshop 2021. All other programs launch just fine.

I did a fresh install using DosDudes 1.4.4 patcher, after which I used Migration Assistant to import users, application and settings form my Mojave container. At last I disabled discrete GPU by removing all AMDRadeonX3000* and *X5000* extensions. Not finding discussion about this issue above, I started to guess it was related to extension removal... but after the nvram command above, it seems to be gone.
Another strange thing I noticed just now, Catalina in some way (I didn't any software update since I removed the extensions) has restored AMDRadeonX3000* extensions (not *X5000*), but for now my MacBook Pro works flawless.

Fresh install on my MBP Late 2011 without any issues. However, migration assistant freezes after re-login. Must force quit. My TM backup is on my NAS and I can copy data back however, I really wanted to restore some applications w/settings that I would like to retain rather than re-install.

Hi All,
I sucessfully installed Catalina on my iMac mid 2010 (specs as per signature) and everything works fine.
I'm now looking to upgrade the GPU with a Metal-compatible one (Quadro K610M).
Do I need to install Catalina with the patcher again from scratch?
I searched for a way of simply uninstalling the Legacy Video Card patch but couldn't find anything...
Appreciate any pointers.

Head over the 2011 iMac Graphics Card Upgrade thread for advice on Metal compatible GPU for iMac.

In preparing the Catalina Install USB drive from DosDude1's Catalina Patcher, you can always disable the AutoPatch from the top menu so that individual patch can be selected or de-selected during post-install patching by macOS Post-Install patcher. Otherwise, it is a pain in the axx to uninstall the Legacy Video Patch. The detailed procedure is listed in that forum thread also:

I won't advise any nVidia GPU. You really need the newer AMD GPU for better compatibility with Catalina, and also Big Sur. The cheapest WX4130 should match your 10 years old iMac for daily computing chore. No need to spend extravagant dollars for the top models.

Thank you, KennyW.

I've been going through that thread and picked the K610M as the best candidate considering my iMac is a 21.5" which has much less power to give than the 27". The WX4130 requires 50W as opposed to the 30W required by the K610M so I was worried there could be some overheating issues...

Are you running a WX4130 on a 21.5? (your signature shows 27")

Yes, I am running WX4130 before and now RX480 in a 27".
The power consumption refers to the max TPW when the card is stressed, probably in intense graphic use or video compression or decompression, or in games.
Otherwise, the original HD 4670 already has a TPW of 35W.
if you accept a slightly lower performance, disabling the PolarisBoost.kext in OC will keep it cooler.

And in prior posts here within the last few pages, some users report success installing WX4150 in their 21" iMac.
The only problem is that they are less predictable to work in the different generations of iMac.

Just updated my early 2011 Macbook Pro 13" to Catalina, took a risk and didn't install onto an external drive, used the main internal drive and I am having absolutely no issues whatsoever.
Dig it.

Hi all; my problem with the not-recognized internal SATA superdrive persists under Catalina.

In order to compare, I re-installed High Sierra on a partition - The superdrive shows consistently there, and is 100% operating.

However, if I start up under Catalina, with eg. an Audio CD inserted, it reads the CD and shows the Volume on the Desktop as usual. At this point, I even see the "CD/DVD" menu in the system prefs. But after 3-4 minutes, the CD gets auto ejected, and the system prefs magically disappear. Same for the "DVD/Burn" section in the system panel, which as well just appears blank after some minutes. If I boot up Catalina with no CD/DVD inserted, it doesn't detect any optical drive at all (or randomly sometimes, but never fully functional).

Does anyone have a fix which I might not have seen in the 530+ previous pages?

Ok, so I have a MacBook Pro 13" (5,5) sitting here that I can play with. It is not my main mac, so I don't mind taking a risk. ;) Roughly two years ago, I used the Dosdude patch on the MBP to install High Sierra but ended up with errors on the app store and no way to patch it. :(

Now, there is a Catalina patch that I can use on my MBP. Judging the previous errors, should I try it? Or will it still retain that app store error?
Are there any special steps I need to take because this machine was patched before?

Hi! Have more of these systems and not a single is showing the problem you describe. What is your iMac's csrutil status?

Searching the web I found some post describing this problem after installing El Capitan...you could have tried the same ...

Saw this issue after High Sierra updated the boot ROM to 99.0.0.0.0. on our lMac11,2. NVRAM reset (three bongs) and cmd-S set it straight. Has not re-occurred. Currently 10.15.7 Build 19H505. FWIW

Attempting to update MBP 5,5 that's operating macOS 10.15.7 (19H12)— to SecUpdate 19H114.
- Have USB drive with patched Catalina installer.
- Downloaded OpenCoreAPFSloader3 but can't determine exact steps required in implementing it for update.
- Accessing 19H12 update from Apple is a problem, as current system status remains "up to date" at 19H12 and will not reflect "update available". Another clean install required?

Assistance appreciated.

You will need a OpenCoreAPFSloader3 USB only if your BOOT ROM is unpatched. Use the CatalinaOTAswufix.app to update the Software Update C/P. Do the first step, open Software Update, it should announce that your Mac is enrolled in the Beta Program and after some time what is currently available will appear. Select what you want. As soon as the D/L starts apply the OTA Update Fix button in the CatalinaOTAswufix.app. If the BOOT ROM is patched installation will proceed as normal into a restart, boot back into the v.1.4.4 patcher and re-install appropriate patches. Reboot. Done.

For a barefoot BOOT ROM make a OpenCoreAPFSloader3 USB. As soon as the update D/L starts apply the OTA Update Fix button in the CatalinaOTAswufix.app, the installation will not fully complete into a restart, boot into the OpenCoreAPFSloader3 USB. One of the selections S/B macOS Installer. Select and the installation will complete. Restart into the v.1.4.4 patcher and re-install appropriate patches. Reboot. Done.

If either process to install fails - go to Library/Updates and delete everything in the folder and restart the D/L procedure. Often 2 or 3 tries is necessary, so be patient.
