Yea problem is I don't have a disc. I made a bootable usb but there is an issue apparently with win10 and doing it that way. I also don't have boot screen cuz of my gpu.
I could never install it from an USB. In fact, I installed Windows 7 from a DVD, and then upgraded to 10 from there. Works like a charm now.

Yea seems like I need to get a dvd of windows. Even though I can't use bootcamp because I am using a nvme ssd for osx. I do have a spare ssd.

You mean the physical dvd reader? If you mean the DVD disc, you can always download the ISO and burn it yourself.

You are with OC? If not, and you are with @dosdude1 patch, they are in the Installation USB. Just boot from USB and reapply.

I have a feeling it’s the same but I will have to reinstall my card to check with screenshots tomorrow. Hoping WiFi operation will be normal after reinstall of Mojave/Catalina without dosdude’s Broadcom patch.
It’s the no Bluetooth hardware message that worries me... faulty card, adapter or driver issue? Time will tell when replacement comes.
Hi Trifero.
After reinstalled Mojave without Broadcom WiFi patch it looks like our cards are the same based on screenshots and the card shows up in USB devices as a Bluetooth USB Host Controller but in the Apple menu under the Bluetooth icon it says “Bluetooth: Not available”. Also WiFi cannot be turned on. I have tried deleting WiFi and re-adding in Network preferences but makes no difference.

Update: I booted up holding shift, control + option as someone suggested and now the WiFi attempts to connect and then tries again every five or six seconds similar to what you described. I checked the contents of the IO80211Family.kext and the AirportBrcm4360.kext is present. Totally confused now. Hoping replacement card and adapter will function properly when it comes.

Ok. I got it. You have to make a SMC reset. Unplug the power cord. Wait 1 minute. Plug it again and wait 5 seconds before switch on.

Okay. Did SMC reset followed by PRAM reset (3 chimes) and still WiFi attempts to connect over and over. Bluetooth still not available and no system preference pane for it.
Going for a clean install of Catalina 10.15.6 next on my Samsung T5 usb drive to see what happens. It was originally a CCC clone of my internal Mojave install. Hoping if the WiFi/Bluetooth hardware is ok a clean install will get everything working properly, otherwise I have a faulty combo.

Clean install of Catalina and still have no Bluetooth and WiFi not able to be switched on. Faulty card or adapter it must be. Waiting for replacement....

Hey all!

I managed to get this installed on my 15 inch Late 2011 Macbook Pro which is awesome! BUT.... I noticed something funky with the graphics/display/driver(?).

When I drag windows around, there is noticeable lag and tearing, minimizing/maximizing window into dock the animation is definitely slower, there are odd artifacts in window elements that go away when moving things around and most worrisome is now some simulators on Xcode are completely unusable because they have massive graphic glitches and artifacts :(

Does anyone know what could be the issue? I'm hoping I could install some sort of graphic driver update or something.

Thanks in advance for the help! :)

You own an MacBook Pro with an AMD Radeon 6xxx GPU?

Check the first post, especially the "Spoiler: AMD Radeon HD 5xxx/6xxx Series Video Card Acceleration". You can disable your AMD GPU. Search this thread, the forum or the net how to do this....

Ah yes, I just discovered this! Thank you :)
I see there's a software guide on how to do this, but before I do...what are the down sides of doing this? I also couldn't find anything out regarding reversing this in case I want to roll back to a previous OS

Wouldn't disabling the Radeon GPU be bad for anything dealing with playback and graphics or even xcode simulator performance?

Cheers!

There is no kind of acceleration available for this particular GPU family on Mojave, Catalina or Big Sur. What do you expect to break?

You have there options:

1) Go back to High Sierra
2) Disable the GPU and stay on Catalina or Mojave
3) Buy another system with a metal GPU

There are (to my knowledge) two ways:
a persistent solution good for broken GPUs
a software solution using some NVRAM data not persistent (does not survive a PRAM reset)

P.S.: I am not an expert on this, just replaced my Radeon 6970 with an AMD WX4170 - an option you do not have.

Very helpful, thanks again!

Ok, well, Apple is forcing me to go to Catalina in order to compile my app with the latest Xcode, iOS and therefore new OSX...so I have to stay with Catalina. So what you're saying is that Catalina is already not using the GPU so I might as well disable it and it should fix the artifacts?

persistent solution for broken GPUs: this is pretty hardcore since it's a hardware fix which is scary...especially since my GPU isn't broken.

software solution: from what I'm reading, this solution doesn't stick and has to be redone once in a while?

You will use the HD3000 (HD2500) iGPU of your Intel SandyBridge CPU - no gaming, no high performance video processing but since the 2011 Mac mini can live with it your MacBook should do so, too.

As long as I can playback videos on youtube without any issues, run xcode simulator, I'll be happy :)

Hi. l propuse an OT problem, but I don't know much other place where I can find help for my MacBook Pro 8,2 latest problem. The problem is that MacBook won't charge battery anymore. Computer led shows battery is about half charged, and macOS "sees" if charger is connected, but connector light won't power on (orange or green), and battery won't go up with charge level.
I tried to reset SMC and PRAM, but didn't help.
I tried to replace the cheap battery I bought about half year ago (cheap, but didn't have this kind of problems until three days ago), with original one (that discharged too fast, but didn't have problems to load), and at last with a new compatible battery from Amazon, but with alla I've the same issue. And I tried this with both my charger, but it didn't help.
So, while I won't to spend much money on this computer (with faulty and disabled GPU), I won't trash it without trying something more to recover it.
Did someone have an idea what can cause this issue, if and how to recover the computer?

Clean Catalina install no different. Saw WiFi flicker at initial setup window but no networks picked up. Replacement card coming this week.

I am running into an error message when I use the patch installer programmer. It keeps saying "An error occurred while attempting to save the InstallESDimage. Ensure that there is at least 10GB of free space on your Startup Disk, then try again." I have a 2009 Mac Pro refitted with a 3.46 GHz 6-Core Xeon processor and I have High Sierra installed. Has anyone run into this problem? Suggestions or solutions? James

  1. have you updated to the latest firmware 144.000 that supports APFS booting
  2. have you formatted the destination HD to APFS
  3. are you running the installer from your High Sierra Hard drive
  4. have you got a Metal capable graphics card

I’m attempting to install Catalina on my mid 2009 MacBook Pro using the dosdude tool, I’ve even using my M1 MacBook Pro to create the USB thumb drive. I’ve let the installer run overnight. When I attempt to boot it displays a 0 with a slash through it, powering on and pressing the option key presents the name of the installed disk icon, recovery-10.14.6 icon, or the installer icon if it’s plug in.
Seeing how many others successfully install on this platform makes me wonder if building The image on the M1 is the underlying problem.
I guessing the dosdude patcher will run on el capitan so I can or should I’ll the image.

looking for guidance on what to do to get this working
Thanks for all everybody does to keep old hardware in service.

For your interest: I have just bought a new driverless USB webcam for the Mac Pro 3.1 in order to use it for ZOOM meetings.

Initially, the camera was not recognized in ZOOM and there were no security questions as to whether ZOOM was allowed to access the camera or the microphone. The desktop app "zoom.us" also did not appear in the Security & Privacy settings under microphone or camera.

My successful antidote was the triple NVRAM reset on startup. Then I was able to successfully add "zoom.us" to the microphone and camera settings in Security & Privacy without activating the SIP.

Note: Contrary to earlier information in this thread, the triple NVRAM reset did not reactivate the SIP in my case.
