MBP4,1 MacOS 10.15.7 (19H1024):

After a system crash, I ran Disk Utility from the macOS Base System (EFI boot) and got a dispenser error.
I did a clean install (19H15), then successfully updated via CatalinaOTAswufix.app and USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3.app to 19H1024. The system runs fast and stable, and I got Time Machine back!

The System Pref Panel "Trackpad" is only about Bluetooth trackpads. Where dd my trackpad go?
I can scroll with 2 fingers gesture and two-finger double-tap on the trackpad zooms in and out. Clicking doesn't work.

Please advise, help is highly appreciated!

Trackpad is on the USB bus. Suggest SMC reset.

No, just the usual - X-Protect and MRT needed to be updated but overall this build uses less OS overhead than previous. Used CatalinaOTAswufix.app, USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3.app and @dosdude1 Catalina Patcher v.1.4.4 on USB upon reboot. Big thanks to @jackluke for his great update tools.
not sure I'd call that the normal, all I use to do was run catalinaOTAswufix.app and then reapply patches after reboot. I'm running a 8,1 I wonder if that procedure would still work?
I'm not sure what - X-Protect and MRT is

Normal if the bootROM is unpatched. X-Protect and MRT are vital and should update automatic but after this Beta install they were not current. SilentKnight fixed that. Reads like you have a bootable ROM, OpenCore phase is unnecessary so CatalinaOTAswufix.app and @dosdude1 Catalina Patcher v.1.4.4 on USB is all that is required.

As you, I run CCC everyday since many many years ago. Never had a a failure. Odd.
Yea, it's a bug, external boot drives will not work with Catalina, which is weird because I was booting from an external boot drive with Catalina, and Mojave in the past, however it was solved by installing the drives internally and tbh that has improved the overall system performance, not only is the drive speed almost twice as fast but the overall system temp performance doe snot peak like it use to. So all good, but a real screw up if you are CCC external drives - I do not know what instigated it but the cloned boot drive simply did not boot after a restart. Yet a re-install using internet recovery would boot the drive but only that one time.

CCC claim to have reported the issue back in 2019 to apple. No developments since. I wasted says with this was very confusing and I was trying to improve by backup coverage of system drive, suddenly I had not bootable system to work with either!

Only external data backup appears now possible with Catalina, so you can't goto up from a spare backup drive, which was the sweet deal with CCC and Mac's... still I've become rather quick at disassembling a Mac mini.

I dunno if an update affected this as I left marines in standby a lot but dam the external boot did work for sure. Why cloning it made it not work. No idea.

AirDrop Catalina pre-patched (only for Broadcom cards) to those interested you should post the output of these Catalina Terminal commands:

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'
ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"
system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Model Identifier"

@jackluke Tried to search this thread for a airdrop fix for the MacBook Pro 5,5 (mid-2009) but can't find anything. Here's my output if you're still working on this fix. Thanks a lot.

ioreg -l | grep "board-id" | awk '{print $4}'
<"Mac-F2268AC8">

ioreg -r -n ARPT | grep IOName
| "IOName" = "pci14e4,432b"

system_profiler -detailLevel mini | grep "Card Type"
Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x8D)

system_profiler -detailLevel basic | grep "Model Identifier"
Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5

This may be the best Catalina build (tried them all) 19H1024. Lower CPU and memory O/H, overall. CPU die temp lower, too. Sufficient to be 10.15.8, IMHO. Update went smoothly w/ @dosdude1 and @jackluke tools. Wanted Validation Patch update and a few restarts to settle down. Two Mini3,1s are rock solid. Will try on iMac11,2, next.

It looks like the update went smooth on the 8,1. Just the usual with running catalinaOTAswufix.app and then reapply patches after reboot.

Thanks for the confirmation @K two that things were back to normal.

Apple has been busy. Build 19H1026 performs identical to 19H1024. The Beta changed builds mid-day March 23rd, apparently. This newer version updated smoothly but after repatch from USB and Force Cache Rebuild, it took longer to boot than usual. After the Validation Patch Update reboot things returned to normal. Behaves the same as 19H1024. Updated atop 19H1011.

Thank you for the tip, however, it dd not work. Trackpad still scrolling with 2 fingers, and double-tap zoom.
Do you know of any other thing I can try?

MBP4,1 successfully updated to 19H1026.

I can't activate Safari extensions, Boom 3D doesn't work either.

BTW, do you know how to access the user library from a CCC Backup? I need to copy some files from there.

Any help would be appreciated

Apple Bluetooth trackpad fully functional. Was the Validation Patch updated with the Patch Updater in the Utilities ƒ? Force Cache Rebuild selected after the re-patch from USB? Sorry, don't use Boom or CCC so can't comment.

Hello, I can also confirm the above Update to 19H1024 on MBP 8,2 via CatalinaOTAswfix from Jackluke and Dosdude Patcher 1.44. post-install. All apps (Office, Acrobat,PSD,IND,..) good and run very smooth, including Boom 3D and Safari.

Can confirm, Validation Patch was updated, did force cache rebuild after re-patch, to no avail.
What irritates me, is that the built-in trackpad on my MBP4,1 works partially, the two-finger scrolling and zoom work, but not the clicking. A fellow board member mentioned that some of the savvy fellows here on the board had a system pref panel developed, if I remember correctly. That could to be the solution, as indeed the System pref in MacOS is BT trackpads only, the built-in trackpad doesn't show up.
Do you know something about that? Thanks for your kind help!

SMC reset on earlier Macbooks involve opening the machine and disconnecting the battery. Did you go that far? That trackpad is on the USB bus and should show up in System Information if connected. Can an earlier macOS on an external drive be booted to test for a potential hardware failure? As I recall the CP experiment was for the MB5,2 trackpad issue. Best of luck, others may chime in? If @TimothyR734 is still around, he may remember? There is also our founder @0403979 He may know? 🤨

K Two, thanks for your kind answer. Can confirm having performed the SMC reset as per Apple instructions for "older" MacBookPros, which are in sync with your instructions. Did take out the battery, held start button for 5sec. I have no way to test with previous MacOS. The internal Trackpad shows up in the hardware listing, screenshot attached.
I will try to contact Timothy and Julian as per your suggestion.

Thanks again very much, K Two!

Have you tried to re-install the @dosdude1 patches from the Patch Updater app in the Utilities ƒ ? You can update an individual patch by Control key selection. Start with the Legacy USB patch. Just a thought. 😎

Come aggiorno il mio macpro 3.1 a 19H1024? ora sono bloccato su 19H2 e non vedo l'aggiornamento con catalinaotaswufix .....thank's

Go to Library/Updates and delete everything in the ƒ. If the Beta does not appear in the Software Update CP after 2 minutes, rerun CatalinaOTAswufix.app. You will get Build 19H1026 which also runs perfect. Apply the <OTA update fix> as soon as the D/L appears in the progress bar. If disks appearing on the Desktop vanish twice and re-appear, the fix worked. If not, start over. Often it takes a few attempts. 😎

In caso contrario, ricomincia. Spesso ci vogliono alcuni tentativi. 😎
ok now try thank's
