macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H1217)

I download macOS.Catalina.Patcher.dmg to make a bootable USB stick for other MBP but I get this warning:
What is the problem?

Thanks

Thats ok. Its Catalina gatekeeper at work. You click ok then open system preferences, under security vault you will have the patcher app listed. Click ok there and your patcher will launch . Good luck.

Right click your mouse or press the control button while opening the patcher app (and enable right click in the mouse preferences bevor). This message is quite normal for every piece of software downloaded from the internet (except the apps from the AppStore) to protect you against malware.

You are leaving supported land anyway. Now you are fully responsible on your own. Freedom comes with responsibility.

BTW: A short search using the big and well known internet search machines would have given you the same answer.

OK im sure this has been answered but i crawled through so many pages here in 5hours.... and so i post ^^

I Installed Catalina via ddos dudes tool without issue as usual and then ran CatalinaOTA and it worked fine for the first days.

But now i constantly have the issue that programmes dont open, sometimes i have to open them manually via finder 3 times until they finally run.

another issue is that it says a download is available HT201222 - but everytime i download it and restart it appears again / so i guess its not installing.

Something that is also weird is that if i want to start in Recovery modus it just gives me a grey screen and nothing happens ( for hours ) ^^

What I do, when Apps are hanging, so to speak, follow dosdude1's solution here somewhere in this thread:

sudo nvram boot-args=amfi_get_out_of_my_way=0x1

then reboot.

I don't know the post#, but it is here in this thread in conjunction with dosdude1's patcher update 1.3.6.

Hope this helps.

Hi Team;

I am a newbie here in this forum, but ussing Mac since 2009.

I have a MBP 5,3 ( 2,8 ghz Core 2 Duo Nvidia GeForce 9600m GT ) with Catalina installed on April 2021 with patches and no great problems, only a few to install some old apps with 32bit installers, like Lightroom 6.x and some times hang ups of this app on boot.

Since a pair of days I have hangs up of the mac in any situation, withouth any alert or high CPU, ... ( I use istat menus ) and on the logs of the system no clues, because no data on it of a trap or any great error. The machine sudently reboot, no info, no trap.

Since this errors, some times a new feature with also a reboot on suspend to ram, that never happened before.

I have the system updated at latest options and no idea what can I do to solve it.

The hardware seems ok, because an old installation works fine.

Maybe a repatch of legacy drivers ? newest drivers ? ...

This driver can be used on this machine ?

On a Mojave instalation, I had to fix a big update from Apple with this one a few weeks ago in a clean install ...

Any clue or steps to fix it are wellcome ;-) . Thanks for your help.

Regards!

A few points, these patches you cite are specific to hackintosh and states so within the text. All 32bIt support has been dropped in Catalina, Mojave is the final stop for 32bit apps. Catalina patcher v.1.4.4 should suffice OOB. 👍🏼 The Activity Monitor app should show the source of the high CPU useage. Try Onyx/Maintenance app often fixes weird stuff. 🧐

Updating the Validation Patch with the Patch Updater app in the Applications/Utilities ƒ takes care of that for good. 👀

Like @ k two said 32bit apps have been dropped for Catalina. Have been using Catalina for almost a year without issues on my unsupported macbook Air. Never faced any hanging issues.

Functions the same as the OpenCore3 USB, finds the macOS installer to complete the update on our unpatched ROM, non-Metal Macs w/Big Sur also installed. The @jackluke method is fine, very reliable. 🧐 Your update description is very clear, others can follow. 🧐
K Two, would you describe y o u r update method, so I can follow?
I have come to learn that you do the things in a sophisticated way. So if you chose the OCLP method, you did for sure because of the advantages. I am eager to learn from you. thanks in advance

Great work. And elegant. I can confirm that this solution works.

Procedure:

0. Download files from sources specified in #12,763.

0.1. Use CC Cleaning Tool to completely remove all CC programs; it’ll take you just a half an hour or so to reinstall all the staff later.
0.2. Run Spotlight and type “adobe” in Spotlight Search field.
0.3. Choose “Show all in Finder” In Results List.
0.4. Move all leftovers to Bin. Empty Bin.

1. Use Terminal.

2. Remove all old previously created/copied folders and files (from /usr/local/ and libopencv_world,4.4.0.dylib from /Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2021/Adobe Photoshop 2021.app/Contents/Frameworks/) – simply move them to Bin. Empty Bin.

3. Create 3 folders:

/usr/local/opt/openjpeg/lib/
/usr/local/opt/tesseract/lib/
/usr/local/opt/leptonica/lib/

(example: sudo mkdir -p /usr/local/opt/openjpeg/lib/).

4. Copy libopenjp2.7.dylib, libtesseract.4.dylib, liblept.5.dylib into appropriate folders as described in #12,763.

5. Install Brew exactly following instructions from #12,763.

6. Install libpng, giflib, libtiff, webp libraries exactly following instructions from #12,763.

7. Install PS. Don’t run it.

8. Copy libopencv_world.4.4.0.dylib to /Applications/Adobe\ Photoshop\ 2021/Adobe\ Photoshop\ 2021.app/Contents/Frameworks/ as described in #12,763.

9. Restart (old Windows’ prejudices).

10. Run PS. Most likely it’ll crash. Pay no attention.

11. Run PS again. In a drop-down window It’ll explain the reason it crashed at the first launch and how it has healed itself.

Thank you

I followed your how-to to the letter, Photoshop 2021 launches on my MBP4,1 Early 2008. Then crashes after showing the start screen/welcome screen with all recent files I opened in previous PS2020.

I just for the the sake of knowledge applied Adobe Zii patch after PS 2021 was crashing, then it crashes earlier.

Is there anything I can do to finally get it to run?

Hi, I have solved the problem with this command sequence:

Download libopencv_world.4.4.0.dylib from here:
Code:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/meab5g

copy it to Photoshop 2021 Framework directory:
Code:
sudo cp libopencv_world.4.4.0.dylib /Applications/Adobe\ Photoshop\ 2021/Adobe\ Photoshop\ 2021.app/Contents/Frameworks/

Download libopenjp2.7.dylib from here:
Code:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/59abvl

copy it to:
Code:
sudo cp -p libopenjp2.7.dylib /usr/local/opt/openjpeg/lib/

From the second libopencv_world.4.4.0.dylib downloadable from here:
Code:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/jwxnni

copy only libtesseract.4.dylib and liblept.5.dylib:
Code:
sudo cp -p libtesseract.4.dylib /usr/local/opt/tesseract/lib/
sudo cp -p liblept.5.dylib /usr/local/opt/leptonica/lib/

Install Brew
Code:
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install.sh)"

Code:
brew install libpng
brew install giflib
brew install libtiff
brew install webp

That's all

Maybe someone can achieve this with less commands using only brew

I managed to access your sendspace links and reinstall the dylibs as explained in your post and same results with crash and error log slightly different with the path usr/ included :
Dyld Error Message:
Library not loaded: /usr/local/opt/openjpeg/lib/libopenjp2.7.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/Adobe Photoshop 2021/Adobe Photoshop 2021.app/Contents/Frameworks/libopencv_world.4.4.0.dylib
Reason: image not found
I followed the method and PS2021 finally launched on my Mac, only to crash again.
Did you finally get it to work? If so, how did you do it.?

K Two, would you describe y o u r update method, so I can follow?
I have come to learn that you do the things in a sophisticated way. So if you chose the OCLP method, you did for sure because of the advantages. I am eager to learn from you. thanks in advance
OCLP v.0.2.3GUI is installed due to a Big Sur 11.5beta4 installation on the Mini3,1 w/Catalina 19H1317 installed on a separate partition. For Catalina, OCLP is a happenstance only useful to find the macOS installer like USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3. Suggest only install OCLP for a Big Sur install, otherwise there is very little or no advantage. The procedure to update Catalina is identical to your description except booting into OCLP to get the OpenCore boot picker, rather than the USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3 for the boot list to see the macOS installer - is the sole variation, the outcome is the same, the update completes.

BTW - Big Sur runs ok on our Core2Duo, MCP79 unpatched ROM, NVIDIA GPU Macs. But go no further than macOS 11.2.3 for now, and if you are up for an adventure in patience and seeing the progress bar move imperceptibly.👁 However, once installed within the limits of hardware - no Metal GPU, no BT4, the overall performance is acceptable and workarounds are available for the latest Apple apps that use Metal for example. Attempting Big Sur will require reading and understanding the detailed instructions provided by Dortania, here: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/INSTALLER.html#downloading . Get OCLP, here: https://github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/releases . Big Sur 11.2.3 is still available via gibMacOS-master, here: https://github.com/corpnewt/gibMacOS/archive/refs/heads/master.zip . Now, you have the complete Big Sur toolkit except getting a Discord account for OpenCore Paradise and unsupported Macs, the better place for support - https://discord.com/login . You'll be surprised who is on there. 😳

Excellent post, thank you very much for the valuable information.
I successfully had installed BigSur 11.2 on my MBP4,1 Early 2008, 17", but decided to re-install Catalina from scratch.
So I stick with USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3 as per your advice, which is providing a clean update method.
Thanks again, K Two

Big Sur on these primitive but sturdy old Macs is an experiment to see how far into macOS these decade-old machines can go and still be useful. Running the Beta is a diversion no matter the OS but I digress - but concur, Catalina is a good choice for '08, '09, '10 vintage unsupported Macs unless vintage software mandates Mojave. Thanks for the kind words. 😎

Definitely, I still can do a lo of the basics with this 17-inch model. The widescreen is still awesome to use.
And Catalina is running smoothly on my machine.

I follow your posts with intent, there is always something to learn from your expertise.
Thank YOU for helping out with your great advice, K Two.

If you can , get an Macbook 17" 2011. Core I7 is posibble. I have two of them and I can assure Catalina runs perfect. They are cheap now in the second had market and nowadays there are even 802.11ac/BT 4.0 modules adaptors.

Code:
1.- Move a copy of my macOS Catalina Installer to Applications from my USB stick
2.- Run macOS Catalina Patcher in a supported MBP running macOS Catalina (19H2)
No Security Updates installed, no Gatekeeper, Xprotect or MRT updated
3.- Browse for the copy of my macOS Catalina Installer and select the app from Applications
4.- Select the Create a Bootable Installer icon
5.- Format a new USB stick as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
6.- Select the new USB stick in the Option "Create Bootable Installer"
7.- Insert the Bootable Installer stick in a Unsupported MBP
8.- Convert the HDD as APFS (Unmount, Edit > Convert to APFS...)
9.- Select the Reinstall macOS option
10.- When reboot I did not see the screen with the custom APFS boot implementation
11.- The booting screen stuck and I had to hard reset pressing Power in my MBP
12.- I did not install the macOS Post Install Patches (Because the are optional and when
I turn of the MBP again appears the first time setup of macOS)
13- Install 2 patches updates that were availiable for the MBP model

A) I can not update my MBP
B) I try to install the Security Update 2021-003 (Catalina) using a USB stick
but I does not work.

What am I doing wrong?

To Camelia:

last I checked, I think that the way to update a patched dosdude1 Catalina system is to follow the instructions in
post #13,956 of this thread.

#13,956

⬆️check this hyper link.⬆️

This is also mentioned in the very first post, very first sentence of this thread.
The same information comes from “how to update Catalina” in the post #1 Of this thread.

You will also need an app called CatalinaOTAswufix that was created by one of the wizards, JackLuke. He is a wizard master like dosdude1 and enables all of us to do these things with our old macs. The download file is totally safe and will help you update your patched Catalina.
You can download jackluke’s tool here:

https://github.com/jacklukem/CatalinaOTAswufix

Im not sure personally about the method that you described in post #14,349. It seems like you’ve taken a different approach to updating than most of us here, so I can’t advise you on the specific steps. Most of the people in this thread are using the update method described in post #13,956 to update “dosdude1 Catalina.”

On a different note, I‘m also actually not sure if jackluke is a man or a woman—so no offense, if I got it wrong.😑
