Download seemed slow for a mere 3.27GB - but at least it wasn't the meltdown that was 11.0.1.
Installed over that (eventual) 11.0.1 on a 2017 Air, seemed no worse than any other install - and the results seem okay, but too early to say for sure. And I don't expect anything earth-shattering in the way of improved daily functionality.

Nothing in its its notes to suggest Apple has solved the 'older Macs' issues that gave users pricey doorstops, though.
What are you talking about? This is a major upgrade one month in the making that offers significant performance enhancements to MacOS

Where does the Big Sur update installer get downloaded to? (I know it gets auto deleted when the update is completed however if an update fails then that installer file might stay on the system clogging up and taking up disk space due to an unsuccessful upgrade attempt)
The applications folder?
The full installer file did wind up in my Applications folder. But I moved it to another location on my Mac Mini, and launched it from there. It did not go away (hence, do not need to download it again (just in case)).

If you did the update "in place", ie, did not actually download the updater file yourself, possibly it does not get downloaded to your machine. Or if it does, it goes away.

I've always downloaded either the full installation file, or when applicable, the updater file, and then run the process myself. I like having more control over it. And just like the full installer file, if I ever need the updater file, I have it.

"Preparing" the update claimed it would take approx 15mins on my iMac, it felt way longer however. Then it rebooted a few times during various stages of the "installation" and finished without any hiccups or red progress bars here. So far seems stable and all apps are functioning normally. I would say the total time for install back to desktop was 40mins.

May I know if I can do Mac Internet Recovery ? previously on 11.0.1, there is a bug which prevent me from doing this.

Installed it today on 2014 MBA. Main issues that I have dealt with today were; while using HP Smart software. I was able to scan some documents with out any issues and some documents were scanned upside down. The documents that were scanned upside down, could not be edited in the HP Smart software. Software crashed once.
Took about 5-6 tries to get documents to properly scan but I got it working. Just have to wait for HP to come out with an update.

I also tried to fill out a form in a PDF document today. That kind of form where you can fill in the blanks in a PDF. Couldn't get my First, last and middle name to stick. All 3 boxes would automatically fill in with either; first last or middle initial. The rest of PDF document was functioning properly.

Besides two main issue mentioned above, MacOs 11.1 seems to be working with out any issues so far on my 2014 MBA.

Or you could use this software:

I have been using VueScan for years. It's trouble free - It just works. Hamrick updates the software frequently.

OK, more good test results. First, I just used VueScan to scan a document to a PDF, and as expected, it worked.

Secondly, the Big Sur version of Onyx was released a few hours ago. I downloaded it, installed it, and ran it, Again, it works.

Third, some more apps that work fine: 1Password, Quicken 2017, VLC, Klondike Forever, Transmission, and EasyFind.

So, things are going well, and according to plan. Just 3 more apps to go: Thunderbird, SuperDuper!, and Tech Tool Pro. I suspect that is the order for when Big Sur versions appear.

Per site zoom preferences still do not stick. They are in the prefs file, but are not honored.

Any local Wikipedia site, like es.wikipedia.org, will go back to default after restarting Safari.

Anyone has installed 11.1 on an iMac with Fusion Drive ? If yes, what about the boot time vs Catalina or Mojave ?

It's AWFUL! I spend more than 5 minutes on waiting to boot and get ready whereas when i had Catalina it booted up in a few seconds. iMac 2017 1TB fusion i5. Completely unacceptable.

Just out of interest, did you invest in the permanent license for Vuescan, or the 1 year license?

Since updating to 11.1, my wifi is unstable but only when plugged into an external monitor. Additionally moving the pointer around with the Magic Trackpad 2 is choppy. Has anyone else experienced similar?

I'm on an M1 MBA & connect to an LG 34WL850-W via Thunderbolt 3.

Save dialogs are all tiny and do not remember resize. I find it utterly amazing that this can at all happen, and it somehow indicates that developers and QA people do not use the OS at all.

For every update when Apple wants to introduce some new silly "feature", tons of bugs are introduced, for the most basic of functionality.

I just tried it out as a fresh install. I could only stand it for an hour. Everything lagged. It wasn't a significant difference, but I could definitely feel it. Animations were also choppy, especially when it came to minimizing and maximizing from the dock. My 16 Inch MPB has 32GB of Ram, so there is no way it should be performing like that. Even scrolling in Safari felt jerky. Some of the stock apps also seemed to open up slower. What a disaster! I switched back to Catalina and I plan to stay there until we get an El Capitan version of Big Sur. This version is not it.

I have none of that on my iMac 27" 2020 i7 or 2015 MBP 15" i7, both are just as performant on 11.0.1/11.1 as they were on 10.15
