@EdGlassgow @GSXB can you both let me know what processor your running? If your running stock Penryn processor my fix applies a masker that makes it think your running a westmere chip. Early 2009 Mac Pro used Penryn which is equivalent to early core i5/i7 westmere is later core i5/i7.
I’m running the stock 2.66 nephalem cpu
I’m also running bootrom 144.0.0.0
With nvme boot discs and a usb 3 card
and a GTX680 Mac

its the reason some early 2009 iMacs weren't working. A fix was released at the kernel level a ways back to support older chips by my patch goes beyond the kernel to the hardware....The fix for older iMacs was to replace the kernel with a patched kernel but my fix masks it at the hardware/software level so you can run the latest kernels in bigsur without the headache of having to reinstall an older kernel if updates come out. The reason apple threw out support for older Penryn processors is because intel abandoned these chips and refused to apply updates for serious vulnerabilities that now exist.
If your bootrom masker give the impression of a west mere CPU
can we assume that opencore will allow you to install big sur natively masking the Macpro as an iMac pro

@KillCoffee you have to apply bootargs and also make sure sip is disabled...
I used the terminal with “/Volumes/Image\ Volume/set-vars.sh”, it says “successfully disabled authenticated root, done changing boots-ages and cstrutil, using haxdonotseal.dylib which will inhibit volume sealing and now you quit terminal and start installer... I tried with boot-args=" amfi_get_out_of_my_way=0x1” before using the set-vars.sh and nothing happened, after using it and it says command not found... so I tried modify the set-vars.sh and insert it there so when I launch it with the terminals should go but still not working... sorry for the stupid question but how do I do? :rolleyes:o_O

well somethings different because I'm booted into bigsur what other hardware modifications have you done?
Are you talking with me?

Hello guys, I tried to look if someone had the same prob but I didn’t find anything.. I have a 27” iMac late 2013, NO HARD DISK, only pcie ssd that works pretty well with other macOS.. did the usb, micropatched, rebooted and did the command with the terminal.. when I quit and click on install mac os (I don’t know why it doesn’t have any icon, it’s just a white square) it sais that it is “impossible to continue Mac OS installation, installation requires download of important contents that cannot be downloaded at the moment. please try again later”... do you have any idea of what is going on here? I waited one hour and retried but nothing worked... what can I do?
I’m not English so I’m translating my message, maybe it’s not 100% correct.. thanks
I did again all the process, I don’t think it was AMFI problem... but it still asks me the download of content, any ideas?

I'm talking to everyone....I'M trying to eliminate the boot loop issues and its gutta be an issue with either processor or bootrom. Ive done plenty of installs using my method without failure. Last boot loop was with parriotgeek patcher when beta 2 came out. Since modifying Barrykn patcher Ive had no issues! Uggggggg those who use Mac Pro apple is clearly moving away from cd/dvd drive. After trying to put eject button in top bar in system preferences apple no longer supports it. For those like me with mid 2009 and early 2012 I think this will be the last version of MacOS. Honestly feels good leaving my Mac on os 11 and lots of good memories and kinda sad but excited for the future! Atleast those of us that have hung on to our older machines can say that they have served us well... .There will be support for the next 2 plus years but I predict this is going to be the last version for intel because if you look at the classic push from powerpc to intel was one release cycle....I am 90% confident this will be the last major release for intel.

Some where in LA
Mac Pro mid 2012 5,1

I don't have any problem to install the Big Sur from Developer or Public.
Here is my Mac Pro mid 2012 specifications.
  • Processor: 2 x 2.4 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7950 3 GB
  • Boot ROM Version: 144.0.0.0.0
  • Bluetooth Core Spec: 4.2 (0x8) Upgraded
  • AirPort Extreme: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Upgraded

I used Barry v0.0.20 "Quick instructions for use" step 1 to 8.

That's interesting... I have use previous versions of MicroPatcher to install previous versions of Big Sur and all went smoothly. There's something just off with this latest combination. I haven't upgraded the Airport/Bluetooth card, but it's hard to image that would be the issue.

What I don't get is why you guys are having an issue. With Barrykn patcher I was able to install with no additional fixes....I just don't understand how its not working for you guys? Are you following all instructions because honestly if your on bootrom 144.0.0.0.0 then there shouldn't be any errors. Theres something your doing wrong....Someone doesn't just install bigsur on the same machine as you guys a report success if it actually worked. Theres a step you guys are missing and I reccomedn you read this forum along with Barrykn Github page!

I'm sure that you don't intend to come across as superior, smug or snotty, but if you did, you hit that note perfectly. Let me give you some background as to why I have chimed in on this issue. I have a total of 4 unsupported Macs, two of which are Mac Pro 5,1 12-core machines. I have successfully installed on the two non-MacPro machines without an issue, using the same USB stick and, of course, the same step 1-8 process outline by Barry in his MicroPatcher documentation. I have now tried a total of 6 times to install on the Mac Pro that I am using right now, including just a few minutes ago, having printed a fresh copy of the step from the GitHub MicroPatcher page and following the instructions letter by letter, just to make sure that I wasn't missing something. Guess what happened.... Bootloop!

mate I swear I followed every step and I did it 3 times...and never had any error during all the process with terminal and all that... the only things it's modified in my iMac is the HD as I said, I removed the original one and put a pcie SSD (originally this iMac had fusion drive, so I used that port with a 2tb pcie)... that's it. I don't know why I have that error, I've never even heard someone that had download error actually. what other information can I give to you for try to understand what's going on here?

Mine is not a boot loop, it's a weird error that I don't even understand where it comes from

Oh lord no I’m sorry if I come off as superior....I don’t want that title because it’s not me and I love the community... . Just giving possible scenarios and if I’m wrong I honestly would like feedback because honestly we are one team from the people that create the patchers to the people who test them it’s great to be apart of this community! I love feedback and I love fixing bugs! I don’t know swift fully(just enough to get me in trouble )and I love old macs. I feel like you shouldn’t have to spend 4000 or 2000 on a Mac to get the whole Mac experience and I
just know enough for basic programing/making installers)but I’d like the community’s help to get this process automated!
