Update Big Sur on iMac 2011 with a metal GPU:

Installation of the Beta 6 on my iMac 2011 / 780M / BCM94360CD with a modified @Barry K. Nathan micro patcher done....again.

Lilu, Whatevergreen got updates two days ago, the AppleGraphicsControl has been taken from this current Beta 6 (20A5364e) and modified and these three files have been added to the zip file attached. Both the old and new zip will give you a working Big Sur. At least I got it running including sleep, AirDrop, Handoff etc using a BCM94360CD card.

After patching the USB installer put in the into the kexts folder on the patched USB installer and unzip the new and put it at the same spot where you find the patch-kexts.sh provided by @Barry K. Nathan (version 0.1.0).

Follow exactly the guide @Barry K. Nathan created, just call the new patch-kexts-iMac-2011.sh instead of the stock patch-kexts.sh. Call the script while booted into Big Sur on your iMac. The new script needs a working OS to check the card type (NVIDIA Kepler or AMD Polaris).

Have fun! You may also check my first post about this mods and the command line arguments to be used.

P.S.:
Currently it is not entirely clear if we really new the modified AppleGraphicsControl to avoid a black screen on boot. No such experience with the few installations of Big Sur so far.

Copying over an installation to an iMac using an AMD Polaris card works with this version, too. You have to change the AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB extension and delete the AppleBacklightFixup then, of course. Better you copy an unpatched version of an installation and use the special patch-kexts-iMac-2011.sh later from the micro patched USB installer you need to create the installation first hand (iMac 2011, AMD WX4170, BCM943602CPD).

Ok. So it wasn't beta5 and pb2, it was beta4 and pb1

Even if they have the same build, one is a developer release and the other is a public release. That was my point in saying they were not the same. Vauxhall and Opel make same cars with different names

Please download both versions and do a checksum comparison of the images. This is wild guessing what you do and you would be confused if you take a deeper look on some cars sold by VW and Ford coming from the very same place in Portugal and only have a one difference, the name plate.
I would like to see more evidence on this thread.

This is a sterile discussion. No point in going on arguing.

You started this without having an evidence to backup your claim the versions having the same build ID would be different. I just asked to proof it.
If you read my posts I never said they where different, I said they were not the same because one is dev6 and the other is dp3. Not always they have the same build. See dev beta 4 and pb1. They are different. More often than not public betas have more recent compilation numbers than dev betas.

Men, I do not want to argue, I want to know it these are the same or not. My point is simply, if they are the same I do not need to make more tests. My test farm is not as highly sophisticated and automated as the one Apple is using to make OS builds and test them... It does not help to clutter the thread without new evidence. Just doubting is a start, but no proof.

Is there anyone out willing to download both versions and share insights about possible similarities or differences?

dvb4 (20A5343i) is different from pb1(20A5343j) dvb5=pb2, dvb6=pb3. This all began when someone wrote that public beta 6 was the same as public beta 3. AFAIK there's no public beta 6 yet.

Tried to install big sur with this tutorial but after reboot get stuck with forbitten sign nvram boot-args=„-no_compat_check“ doesnt help.

Hintzsche, did you run "nvram boot-args=„-no_compat_check" in regular MacOS Recovery before booting from the USB installer? Have a look at my post - #3,904 as it shows when to run this command. I had the same issue myself the first few times I tried to install the beta on my iMac.

Is there a place where I can find all of the links to all of the betas, 1-6? I would like to test them all one by one on my 2011 MBP to see what to use on my patcher before the real thing comes out.

So, a question slightly related......if I've installed Big Sur beta on an unsupported iMac, will I be able to get future beta updates through software update within there, or do I need to download the beta when its available (by looking on this thread) and put on a USB installer as I did the first time? I'm not clear on this myself, hence why I ask.
