It seems that dosdude isn't at this forum anymore, and nobody of his friends have the kindness to tell us what happened to him, and surely, a lot of admirers want to know about him also

Hmmm. I can still see him as the original poster of the first message, and it appears he can still be reached via a private message. It's true it's been a long time since he wrote last, but perhaps he's doing research on his own as time allows.

For those running Penryn series CPUs with beta 7 or newer(reports say beta 9 no longer needs the patches), you'll need to remove the new LBR stuff in the kernel. While our CPUs do support LBR, it seems Apple assumes all CPUs running beta 7+ will have a minimum of 16 branches. Problem is Penryn and older only have 4 branches. So the simplest solution is to skip the LBR stuff however in the future I plan to look into it more and maybe see if we can have it read and handle the MSR's value correctly.

See here for the patches(Note you'll need OpenCore to patch in support, and only use the first 4 patches listed):
Note this was tested on a Core2 Q8200 system(HP DC7900), would like some reports of other's experiences

Oh and some extra goodies:
Edit: As mentioned above, Beta 9 now boots properly with Penryn CPUs without patching. Will have to wait and see if any issues in the future pop up

Please can somebody help me? I had a perfect working big sur on my iMac and, without thinking, I stupidly reset the PRAM with Ctrl-Alt-P-R! Now nothing works anymore and I have a blank screen at startup. I tried to re-apply set-bars.sh from the USB key but it doesn’t work... I really need your help

Try running
nvram boot-args"-no_compact_check amfi_get_out_of_my_way=1"
from recovery mode

Probably because you're on the Public beta and not the Dev beta, Public beta 9 is not out yet.
I don't think so, the profiles are not the same, and I have the developer's profile. I've had Big Sur since beta 1.

edit : I haven't been patient enough. 24 hours later, the update is finally proposed to me.

It is 12.17gb for me, and I am downloading it now. I am pretty sure it is beta 9 though
Yes it is 12.17GB if done direct download; I did it via Terminal using a curl. Plus, that "/001-51046-A_..." in the url is different than the beta 6. "http://swcdn.apple.com/content/down...dtspj7gwuqw8eeoegqw42xe5/InstallAssistant.pkg"

Also the Terminal announces that the "Product downloaded and installed to /Users/me/Install_macOS_11.0-20A5384c.sparseimage which is 12.22GB and not a .pkg file. I'm going to get the normal pkg via that link above.

This is perhaps of interest to some of us. At the end of my Terminal curl download, this was written:
Code:
Downloading https://swdist.apple.com/content/downloads/53/17/001-51046-A_7AS5ZR2PIU/5fmyhirrsadtspj7gwuqw8eeoegqw42xe5/MajorOSInfo.pkm...
Making empty sparseimage...
installer: Package name is macOS Big Sur Beta
installer: Installing at base path /private/tmp/dmg.1B2T75
installer: The install was successful.

Adding seeding program DeveloperSeed extended attribute to app
Product downloaded and installed to /Users/me/Install_macOS_11.0-20A5384c.sparseimage

So apparently it could be important to download the InstallAssistant.pkg to the current boot volume. That could be why the installer was put in a sparseimage rather than a normal pkg.

For your information, I did the download while on Catalina 10.15.7, and the sparseimage was put on that boot volume. As I said earlier, I'm going to use the direct download and treat that InstallAssistant.pkg as we normally do. I'll report if there are any problems.

Oh, I should give you the curl command; as you see it uses installinstallmacos.py from GitHub.
Code:
curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/munki/macadmin-scripts/main/installinstallmacos.py && sudo /usr/bin/python installinstallmacos.py --raw --seedprogram DeveloperSeed

Can some of you who know more about this "Working around a very dumb Apple bug..." comment?

I'm a rolling stone.
Hmm, I downloaded the InstallAssistant.pkg, created a USB installer, ran Micropatcher 0.2.1, restarted after moving a bit of stuff of my SSD because I had to little space but didn't work.

Holding Option after restarting worked, it starts up from the USB stick, after a while I get a screen with the mouse and keyboard, I click the arrow (As in proceed), next I get a grey screen, seems to be an overlay, I can see a window behind the overlay but just barely.
I have a Samsung 37" TV as my monitor, many times the Menu bar doesn't show, I have to into Display preferences to adjust the screen to fit, if I go to the top of my screen the mouse goes off the screen but menus work, not in the installer though, as I said there seems to be a grey overlay, whatever I do, like escape or any other key, it doesn't go away.

Okay, something is different at least for me: I made a normal download via Safari and got an InstallAssistant.pkg in my ~/Downloads folder which created a new Big Sur Beta installer in my /Applications folder which right now creates a new (hopefully) bootable installer on an SD card.

Code:
me@iMac ~ % sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Big\ Sur\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/BSB9
Password:
Ready to start.
To continue we need to erase the volume at /Volumes/BSB9.
If you wish to continue type (Y) then press return: Y
Erasing disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 30%... 100%
Copying to disk: 0%... 10%... 20%... 30%... 40%...

I like to hear what yours come up with, mine booted without a problem, until I got into the installer, a grey green.

It gets even stranger, before on my second try I got to see a screen with static noice for a split second just before I clicked the proceed arrow and just before the grey screen.
I tried again but no dice again, grey screen, I switched my Mini off with the on/off button, pressed again and instead of the verbose startup I got a screen with static noise, then a plop and the progress bar showed up just before the login screen, what the heck.

Yep, it is hanging at the language selection with a grey screen, the apple menu and the single entry "Sprachauswahl" - looks pretty like the installer of Beta 6 only without the "macOS-Updateassistant" box on the screen.

Trying the USBopencore and starting the installer gave the no memory installed warning sound :)

So please forgive me if this is has been answered before. I already have Big Sur but only Beta 6 as I haven't felt comfortable following the OpenCore steps to spoof a supported Mac. However, now that the Beta 9 Full installer is out, if I already have Big Sur beta, can I just download the 'installassistant.pkg' and run from Applications folder in Big Sur, or do I need to create USB Bootable installer, patch with the patching tool and do as I had done for beta 6(booting to Recovery, running nvram no-compat-check, etc)?

I tried to startup by holding the Shift key just after picking the USB Big Sur installer, haha, it boots for a bit and then it says something like this

"This version of OS X cannot be installed on this Mac"

Erm..OS X, and why does it boot when not holding the shift key...haha

Yes, but you might run into problems, me and Ausdauersportler both ran into troubles, you can read above.
