After you select the EFI Boot, does it show another apple menu with Recovery and other bootable Volumes ?

Try boot selecting the EFI Boot opencore, then select "Restart fix", then hold alt-option key and select (without OpenCore) "macOS Installer" (apple hard disk icon) it should continue the "29 minutes remaining" stage2 installer.
Clicking the EFI Boot Open Core, I just get the Apple logo (see the screenshots I posted before). It doesn’t show any recovery or bootable volumes.

This OpenCore graphics menu incompatibility occurred also with MacBookPro4,1 maybe your Mac has also DDR2 RAM ? Or which GPU are you using ?

Anyway try this previous OpenCore text menu setup that should show the required extra menu to continue the BigSur "macOS Installer": https://github.com/jacklukem/USBOpe...s/download/3.0/USBOpenCoreAPFSloader3.app.zip

Ah yes, my computer runs on DDR2 RAM - didn’t know this would affect the install. Will try APFSloader3 and update. Is it safe to use the APFSloader3 in the BaseSystemFix?

It's safe, is a previous opencore version that used a simple text menu, it should work to continue the BigSur macOS Installer .

I'm aware of that "sudo" command, I made it on purpose to thrown that error when my BigSurFixes fails to don't mismatch the main APFS Preboot or multiple internal macOS installation, so if the BigSur Preboot is incomplete or invalid size or the user typed the wrong diskXs2 APFS Preboot , I put an elif condition (that applies also to the APFS System Volume) with "sudo" to deny processing any patching on the target disk.
I see. Thanks for clarifying!

Just tried this with APFSloader3, I get a prohibited sign after selecting “macOS Installer” from the default boot selector

Select EFI Boot for OpenCoreAPFSloader3 it should have a green icon, then another text menu is showed and select from there "macOS Installer".

Otherwise select from opencore menu "Restart fix", then you can use "macOS Installer" from the default boot selector.

If still doesn't work then you should try an internal SATA disk installation.

This is the closest I’ve got to installing Big Sur into my MacBook Pro 5,3. Gets to this and doesn’t progress any further. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I’m at a loss what to do next it was a battle getting this far lol

Just rename "BigSurBaseSystemfix" to "Install macOS Big Sur" and Barrykn patch kext should work.

I see.

However, some of the BarryKN patches don't work well with my system, so I'd prefer to only inject AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext into my already-running system. Is there a straightforward way to inject just this particular kext into my sealed Big Sur volume? I don't mind re-patching/injecting manually after every re-install.

Still a no go, tried booting APFSloader3 then “Restart fix” and finally “macOS Installer” from the default boot selector and I also tried going into APFSloader3 then “macOS Installer” but neither works.

In the first case I get a prohibited sign, and in the second I get booted back into the APFSloader3 menu.

Try reapply the "BigSurfixes stage2 installer fix", otherwise you should try an internal SATA disk installation that doesn't require "BigSurfixes stage2 installer fix" (and stage3 installer fix).

An internal SATA disk non-APFS "macOS Installer" requires only "-no_compat_check" that is included in opencore "Restart fix".

Already tried reinstalling the stage2 fixes, that didn’t do much though. Will try reinstall on an old HDD and I’ll update on how that goes.

Just tried the whole installation process on an HDD, I’m getting the same issues again

That's really weird, which USB BigSur Installer are you using ?

For non-APFS Mac you should use this: https://github.com/jacklukem/BigSurfixes/releases/

The BigSurBaseSystemfix is only an external patched recovery for 11.x beta releases.
I thought I was supposed to use both Legacy USB fix and Legacy USB fix 2? That’s what I’ve been using.
I restored the BigSurBaseSystem fix to an HDD partition (not the same one I’m installing Big Sur to) and then applied the patches to that.

Not exactly, for a full BigSur BaseSystem installer you need to download a 12 GB InstallAssistant pkg, then open it to unpack to Applications folder as "Install macOS Big Sur.app", then make through createinstallmedia a stock "Install macOS Big Sur" drive (instead of an USB drive 16 GB, you can use also a faster 20 GB HFS+ partition on an hard disk), then you can apply BaseSystem Legacy USB fix and fix2 , at reboot you should notice another icon for BigSur Installer, that is the full installer with BigSurFixes.

So I guess the BigSur installing test you made were from an incomplete BigSur Installer, anyway you can still use OpenCoreAPFSloader3 (for DDR2 RAM Mac) to detect any hidden APFS volumes.

Okay, so I remade an Installer USB and also applied the patches you mentioned. Here’s what I did after:

1. Restored an external HDD as APFS
2. Ran Hax3 from the menu
3. Installed macOS Big Sur on the APFS formatted HDD
4. Rebooted into the install partition, and ran stage2 fix
5. Rebooted into APFSloader3 and choose the “macOS Installer” option

After this my computer shuts off, and I’m back to square one.

EDIT: APFSloader3 is on an external USB

Have you removed the internal BT card on MacPro3,1 as many suggested ?

Try install the OpenCoreAPFSloader3 included in BigSurFixes, then reboot, select EFI Boot, "Restart fix" and retry to load the "macOS Installer" from apple startup manager.

If you completed the stage2 installer, you should try "Legacy USB patches".

for those of us running full Big Sur on unsupported hardware what your favorite feature was and why? :)
The only improvement for my 2012 mini is an extra year or so of security fixes ... I don't have an iPhone, iWatch, or other iDevice and I use chrome, so from my perspective Apple has moved on to the arm chips and no real new features will happen for intel mac's in the future ...

I see.

That kext is included in IONetworkingFamily.kext Plugins, installing it on Extensions caused redundancy, so you should kmutil install it with a new snapshot through micropatcher .

I removed the BT card ages ago, tried doing that just now - still getting a prohibited sign.

Will Dos Dude be able to get the 2010 imac with upgrades supported. I have added more ram and a SSD.

You may start reading at the very first post. Your machine can be upgraded but with the stock GPU it is not worth a try. The 2010 has not been really supported by @dosdude1 patchers for Mojave and Catalina - why do you expect to change it just because you have a lot of memory. The GPU is the problem...

Got Big Sur running on my 4,1/5,1 Mac Pro yesterday! Just ran the update from Apple and it worked perfectly (using OpenCore for almost a year now). Only hangup is that my 27" Cinema Display no longer shows up as an audio output or input! Any ideas on the lack of audio? It worked perfectly in Mojave (obviously) and in Catalina (RX580 in Mojave, RX5600XT at the end of Mojave and all through Catalina, still on the RX5600XT in Big Sur). Internal audio still working, front headphone jack is not, but the rear jack is.

Thank you!
