Is there some kind of cache or temporary file, that is always created when there was a change at the EFI-Partition? I have the issue, that my brightness slider is only available when the boot process was done with some changes at the EFI-Partition. After the next reboot without any changes at EFI, the slider is missing/greyed out. Is it possible to rebuild that cache/temporary file with every reboot? Even if the boot process takes a bit longer.

The installed kexts are: Lilu, whatevergreen, AppleMCEreportDisabler

Any suggestions how to keep the brightness slider working permanently?

Nothing to worry about. Big Sur changes boot disk structure, even compared to Catalina.

It is the SSV(Sealed System Volume) I think, something new in Big Sur.

Please check out the first post for patcher and system "support"! And than you may better search the thread for your particular system using the search function on the top right off the page and limit results to this thread. It is highly unlikely that every or a single owner of your old system is responding in time. We are simply not all online 24/7.

It will have no graphics acceleration and will not run flawlessly...

Your assistance is highly appreciated.
understood. thank you.

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 and USB is nearly unusable incl. the PCiE FASTA USB3 ports. Interestingly, those worked fine during most the beta. But since release they "stutter." This makes mouse movement, audio, etc. unusable.
The HID keyboard plugged into the native USB ports is ok, but no devices are recognized after boot.
I have wasted a lot of time on this, since it worked so well during earlier cycles.
I went back to Catalina with some pain and am happy with that.
Enjoying Big Sur on my MacBook Pro M1.
Removed all non Apple extensions and loaded with OpenCore. USB problem is still there.

anyones has found a fixed for the ui issues in big sur using GTX 775M??

currently using iMac 27 - late 2013

I know this may sound odd, but if any can offer me incite/an example obj-c file where you extract the latest version of macOS Big Sur from Apple, I would really appreciate it.

Ok, so I just recently scored a free 2012 MacBook Pro (specs below) and although I have used the @dosdude1 patcher several times on my 2009 MBP, I was wondering, what are the chances of getting a usable version of Big Sur running on this machine? How hard is the process and will it be worth it, do you think? I assume this system is Metal compatible so I was just wondering what everyone thinks. Thank you for any/all help!

I used the Patched Sur patcher and ran the wifi patch after boot. Significant speed boost over Catalina on my 2012 MBP. I have a SSD and 16GB ram. If yours still has a platter, I would swap for a SSD, 4GB is usable on a 2012 but I would go for at least 8.

Wow! Thank you for this link explaining the new Boot Disk Structure. For most of us, this is really new and helps explain much of the problems our geniuses here are coping with. Thank everyone who has contributed to this thread.

I apologise in advance if this question has been asked before but I am worried that if one can patch Big Sur to work on older macs, could there be some kind of malware installed with it.I am worried that something like keystroke logger could be inside the patched install, or some type of other malware. Is using the BerryKN Big Sur patcher safe in regards to security? Can it be trusted?

If you are using the Github source of Barry's micropatcher you can trust that component. As always, be careful where you obtain the other downloads, e.g. installassistant.pkg, as well as any kexts you may need. Malware can sneak in through any download source.

I do have a SSD installed and hope to upgrade the RAM to at least 8gb soon. Is it worth it for now, with the 4gb, switching to Big Sur? Thanks for the help. :)

This is the SSD I have installed:

Hello everyone,
is any of you experiencing a graphic anomaly consisting in having green rectangles on random images on Safari? Sometimes if I open the image, the rectangles disappear. Following examples from Google Images and my Mac specs (I used Barry's micropatcher to install BS). The issue seems not happening in Photos app or Finder.
BTW, is normal that the info window shows both graphic cards? Always thought that it would show just the one in use.

PS: thanks to @Barry K. Nathan and all the other guys for their amazing and priceless work!

While I do like the idea of a Big Sur patcher.. 2015 Macbook Pros are coming down in price and I think by the time such a patcher comes out, Apple will come out with a new OS. My advice is for those who can do it - GET A 2015 or 2014 Macbook Pro in my opinion.. Catalina was a different OS.

Had the green rectangles in different images in the Photos-App of Big Sur. Sometimes there are parts of a website missing in Safari and the brightness slider worked only ocassionally.

I went back to Catalina because of many issues

Odds are not good...

As per first post on this thread:
Macmini5,x (systems with AMD Radeon HD 6xxx series GPUs were almost unusable when running Catalina and will be under Big Sur as well.)
Catalina on my another MacMini 2011 is almost unusable due to extremely slow response in Finder interface without a native Metal GPU support.
I don't border to try Big Sur and have reverted to High Sierra.

Forgive my ignorance, but I've been trying to find Ben Sova's patched Sur. But when I goto his GitHub page and download the files there is no patched.dmg file. Even though it says in his description to download the .dmg file and not the zip. There is no .dmg file just the zip. Am I missing something here?

Your "ignorance" is very forgivable; github could certainly make this clearer.

On the Patched-Sur main page (https://github.com/BenSova/Patched-Sur), click on "Releases" (see red circle):
Sova1.jpg

That will take you to the Releases page, where you can download the .dmg file from the latest release (see red circle):

Good luck!
