... I did successfully install Big Sur on an MBA 11' Mid-2012 using Micropatcher. It worked well and went smoothly with only minor glitches. ... and I did roll back to Catalina.

After doing two clean install of Catalina on my MBA 11' Mid 2012 that has been updated temporarily to BigSur I experience issues with bluetooth and apple Magic Mouse and magic keyboards. The magic devices works well on another Mac that I have. But I have hard time to get them connected to the MBA and if I get it then the mouse movement is not smooth (similar to poor connection with on and off movement, lagging).

...

Can someone confirm what is the bluetooth firmware on a MBA 11' mid 2012. Mine after installing Big Sur and reinstalling Catalina is V7.0.6f8 (v156 c5917).

Thanks
First, my bluetooth firmware is v150 c9319 on a 15in rMBP mid-2012 running BS 11.1(20C69) with an upgraded 802.11ac Broadcom card installed.

Second, if you migrated preferences back from Big Sur to Catalina there may be some conflicts. I'd recommend creating a new pristine admin-level user and checking how your bluetooth devices work. In fact, this is a great troubleshooting tool and should be part of everyone's arsenal!

Third, you could run Bluetooth Setup Assistant again. There are some settings in Preferences-->Bluetooth-->Advanced... to check. Or perhaps just uncheck/uninstall your Bluetooth devices and rediscover them???

Hello community,

Is is it possible to install Berrys Patched Big Sur on a RAID0 ? I had success to install and boot Catalina on my RAID0 (Mac Mini server 2012,i7 2,3GHZ,16GB RAM and 2 x 500GB SSD‘s) and the read and wirte speed is over 900mb which is very nice. Would love to use and boot from the RAID0 on Patched Big Sur :)

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback.
Creating a new Admin account is a great suggestion.
I gave it a try. Unfortunately while I can connect with a Magic Mouse even if it lags a lot, I can't even see the magic keyboard to connect to.
This means that the issue is not account specific but rather a system issue.
Do you know how to flash the Bluetooth firmware?

I've got a 2011 27 inch iMac, in which I swapped the defective graphics card for a K1100M. I've successfully installed Big Sur 11.1, with MicroPatcher. Only one problem, and I couldn't find a solution via Google, I can't seem to dim the backlight, as it is running at full brightness all the time. It gives me a headache...

What can I do?
You really should take a look over here. (Though you really might want to reinstall the OS all-over again afterwards.)

Everything works great, except my instant personal hotspot. I already searched this thread but didn't find a solution. Sorry, if I ask again.
I can see the hotspot in my WiFi status. If I select it, I can see, that the hotspot is activated on my iPhone. The switch toggles instantly and WiFi switches to LTE. But then I get a message on my iMac that the personal hotspot could not be activated.

Have you found a solution?

I just noticed I have the same issue. I tried to reset network settings, delete wifi configuration and bluetooth .plist files but it didn’t help. I am able to connect with USB or Bluetooth (System Preferences > Bluetooth > iPhone, right click > Connect to Network). So the problem is just the instant hotspot feature.

I connected another Keyboard and Mouse and disabled Bluetooth on iMac. Then I was able to connect on iPhone hotspot using the password method and I saved it to Keychain Access. After enabling Bluetooth I was still unable to connect. I disabled Bluetooth on iPhone completely (not just from Control Center) and I noticed that the 4G symbol from iPhone hotspot was disappeared.

I was able to connect again but not every time. The iPhone hotspot is greyed out frequently and you cannot select it. You have to be fast.

So with Bluetooth off (iPhone or iMac) and password saved method, not instant hotspot, it connects. I could live with that but is there any fix?

FYI the latest RefindPlus commit can:
1. Set arbitrary boot argument in the NVRAM.
2. Set any csrutil-value.
3. Run Big Sur directly as long as the required boot arguments are set (tested with SIP disabled as "FFF" on cMP5,1).

Sounds like Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) is not working. I think that is a prerequisite for instant hotspot, available on 2012 Macs onwards.

Do you know if the card BCM94331CD you are using, has BT LE?

No, I don't know how to flash BT firmware. There are lots of folks on this thread who may be able to help.

Since your MBA is supported for 10.15.7, I'd try a reinstall using this Combo Updater for 10.15.7. Combo Updaters are wonderful for removing small glitches and you shouldn't lose any settings.

Also, read this option-click trick. Plus read the next two comments (#13 & #14).

I got the 11.2 Beta on OpenCored Mac Pro 3.1, all work fine, but no sound, voodoo kext unworkable. BigMac sсript also don't work with 11.2 beta.

I have a Mac Pro 3,1 as well, with the APFS BootROM patch, an EFI flashed GTX 680, an upgraded BCM94360CD wireless card, a PCI Express USB 3.0 card (in case the built in USB won't work with Big Sur) and a Gigabyte Titan Ridge Thunderbolt 3 card. Would love to run Big Sur on it.

- Can you give a brief explanation of how you installed OpenCore on the computer, please? I spent hours searching the Internet but cannot find anything definitive on how to install OpenCore on anything other than a 2010/2012 model Mac Pro 5,1.

- How did you get the installer for Big Sur? I can't seem to find a download anywhere. Can we do an update from Catalina after using OpenCore to spoof the model?

Lastly, does anyone here have any experience with the Gigabyte GC-TITAN-RIDGE Thunderbolt add in card in Mac OS Big Sur?

Thanks in advance.

Longtime lurker but first post here.

Have Big Sur 11.1 working great on my mid-2012 CMBP with no issues other than one with WiFi. I am patched and have everything working; BT, WiFi, handoff, continuity, hotspot etc. However I can not for the life of me connect to 802.1x WiFi networks. Is there any word on why this might be the case? Prior to Big Sur 802.1x wasn't an issue.

This is what is happening:
  • Select 802.1x enabled WiFi network
  • MacOS prompt for credentials -- working as expected
  • Certificate verification popup -- working as expected
  • Supplied credentials are verified by the RADIUS server and are accepted as per entry in the server log -- as expected
  • MacOS continues trying to connect to the network and appears momentarily connected via EAP-PEAP in System Preferences -- does not obtain IP address
  • MacOS times out trying to connect to the network
I have tried manually setting a static IP address but this makes no difference. RADIUS server logs all appear to show that authentication was successful, but for whatever reason MacOS doesn't seem to connect. Do any of you wonderful folks know why that maybe the case?

I've included wifi.log for anyone whose interested in having a look, I can't tell much from it myself but it appears that it fails to complete the handshake.

A quick search indicated that the problem probably lies with the RADIUS server. Here is a sample link.
If this is your own RADIUS server, you could try setting up a new userid. You could try asking the RADIUS support team at your employer or university, but they may well not be very enthusiastic about software that is running on unsupported hardware.
Have you tried the following basic steps?
If it's your own server, connecting with WPA2 authentication without using RADIUS.
Deleting any unused connections under Preferred Networks.

i would start cleaning up or delete your old/not used preferred networks, it work for me.

I have the same issue, integrated audio unit is not working under Windows 10, despite the fact that I've tried different workarounds, like uninstalling audio drivers, installing new audio drivers, updating drivers, none worked.
Also the brightness adjustment doesn't work (I read that the gpu driver update a is to blame). Luckily for me is me not a big deal, since I mostly use my Mac in clamshell mode attached to a Thunderbolt dock that provides also an audio output that works fine under Win 10.
Anyway I guess these 2 issues are not related to installing Big Sur on ad unsupported Mac.
For older Macs, you need to have installed Windows 10 in legacy BIOS mode for audio to work properly, but perhaps you have already done that and is aware of that limitation (and still have issues).

So that’s it! I installed Win10 on an external usb drive with WinToUsb, using the “legacy” option, but eventually it set the boot volume as UEFI! I assumed the option would had set it as BIOS. Thank you very much, now I have to figure out how to change it!

Sounds like Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) is not working. I think that is a prerequisite for instant hotspot, available on 2012 Macs onwards.
Quite possible that's the reason because I noticed that after Big Sur installation battery consumption of Bluetooth devices has increased twice. In other words, if before it Magic Mouse lived a month on a single pair of batteries, so now it's only two weeks.

Yes I have Boot Camp with Windows 10 20H2. No audio problem.
Fine , Thank you for your answer .
I have MBP Mid 2012 but with the same windows version my audio does not work booting with opencore at same SSD of macOS Big Sur 11.2 beta (20D5029f).
Could you please share the audio configuration at opencore ? and one more question
How did you show Recovery Disk ?

Hi,
Thanks for your feedback.
Look up in how to completely reset your BlueTooth system. It means you have to pair your devices again.
BlueTooth configuration is global, another account should not make a difference.

For older Macs, you need to have installed Windows 10 in legacy BIOS mode for audio to work properly
There are multiple ways to fix that in UEFI mode. You can apply a DSDT patch using OpenCore or enable test signing mode and apply the DSDT patch in Windows itself. Still if you don't need UEFI mode for what you need to use Windows for to work it is better to use legacy mode on older Macs.

How did you show Recovery Disk ?
OpenCore has nothing to do with audio in Windows. You should check the driver or even if the correct device is selected first.

Recovery is hidden when HideAuxiliary is enabled. You could press your space key on the menu to show, or disable HideAuxiliary.

hello,

at the moment i have Catalina native on my MacBookPro 9,2 installed.

The MacBookPro is blacklisted for using Big Sur.

Now i will install Big Sur using OpenCore 0.6.5.

Please tell me, if it is possible an if is there an config.plist i can use.

thanks and regards
Stephan

Wait, wait, wait!

UEFI installation (in contrary to the legacy BIOS installation) used on iMac 2011 models and some other machines does not recognize the installed hardware correctly and so sound is broken.

To fix this you can use an DSDT patch injected through OpenCore. So OpenCore does not cause the sound problems but can be used to fix them. This is slightly off topic, too. There will be surely a "Windows 10 on Macs" thread...

hi there ....
is there any update on these drivers ? i can't wait to try it on my imac with radeon 6750m ... really need newer version of xcode
thanks in advance
Search back, no more messages after the "release ancouncment" - this has been a bad and late April joke if you ask me. You can change the GPU in your iMac to get a by far better experience and superior solution.
