I am attempting to install the latest Big Sur using MiscroPatcher Automator and after I create the USB and restart, when I hold down option I have no “efi boot”, I only have “Install macOS Big Sur”. I was wondering if there is an issue with the newest release or if this is the way it is now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This was just posted at StarPlayX github—anyone else seen this problem?

Describe the bug
Apple's changes in IONvmefamily has broken support with Mac Pros 5,1/4,1/3,1 the bug started with Beta 3 of 11.3 has continued to beta 4, this maybe the release version of IONVMefamily for 11.3 therefor breaking computability between NVMEs and Mac Pros.

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

install 11.4 newest beta to a Sata or NVME drive
Finish installation of Mac OS, restart and attempting to boot from an 11.3 drive with an NVME drive installed in a pci slot will cause a kernel panic

Hardware (please complete the following information):
Mac Pro 5,1 20E5210c
Sonnet NVME with Samsung 970 evo plus

Opencore cannot block the IONVMeFamily.kext

Check the partition scheme of the USB!

Step 2 of the docs:
  1. Format your USB drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with GUID Partition Scheme using Disk Utility.

Hello to all
Hi @Ausdauersportler

I finally finished my script for cMP5,1 with upgraded Brandcom card
I gladly share it in order to add it to the different Patcher, if necessary.
I ran it after the various installs from 11.1 to 11.2.3 without any problems.

It checks if the started Volume is really Big Sur
It checks if SIP & SSV are disabled

It creates a folder in "Home" to mount the snapshot, then:
It patches "IOBluetooth.plist" for cMP5,1 with upgraded Brandcom card
It adds "CoreBrigthness.framework" to activate NightShift (thanks to @jackluke )
It deactivates Library Validation
It adds cMP4,1 and cMP5,1 to "PlatformSupport.plist
It adds cMP4,1 and cMP5,1 to "PlatformSupport.plist" in PREBOOT Volume
It patches "AppleGVA.framework" for H.264 acceleration
It creates "com.apple.AppleGVA" for H.264 acceleration
It recreates the Snapshot
Finally, it asks to reboot the cMP

The use is very simple, after the normal installation of Big Sur and access to the Desktop, all you have to do is unzip the "_cMP51_PATCH_.zip" archive on the Desktop, run Terminal, type "sudo" and Drag & Drop "cmp51.sh" contained in the unzipped "_cMP51_PATCH_" folder on the Desktop. And restart when requested...

Have you ever checked the OpenCore on legacy Macs thread?

NightShift can be enabled by OpenCore injection and MacPro5,1 need no patcher in general for Big Sur.

The H.264 story is really interesting! Possibly it may work with Sandy Bridge and HD3000, too. Need to check this later.

Thanks for all work!

Yes, i have been browsing the OpenCore thread, but not for a few weeks.
Yes with OpenCore we can do many things like activating NightShift and H.265 acceleration (among others)
Indeed the cMP5,1 is one of the machines that need the least (if at all) to be patched to make Big Sur work.
But I wanted to design this script for those (like me) who would not want to use OpenCore but who would only like to activate Continuity, NightShift and H.264, without performing the manipulations one by one via the Terminal (as I did it during Beta versions of Big Sur until 11.1)

Many thanks alphascorp! I noticed a typo: PlateformSupport.plist vs. PlatformSupport.plist. I'm betting the later is correct. :)

hii that's my post on having an issue booting Beta 4 with NVMEs, would you mind sending/posting your OC config.plist?

I have a MBP9,1 15'' unibody. When I try OCLP I have no backlight on the screen, so it remains black.
Who use OCLP with the same AC Model ?

If I add vit9696 The screen backlight is working correctly but I have an issue in this case when the mac recovers from the sleep mode. The screen remains black in this case.

Thanks

In case nobody chimes in please report issues directly on the GitHub page of OCLP. The developers are not reading here. Possibly you have to disable sleep (pmset) if no real solution is right now available.
We have MacBookPro9.2 installations with OCLP and micropatcher reported to work (list on first post).

the problem has been reported on the GitHub page since December.

As this thread is about "macOS 11 Big Sur on Unsupported Macs Thread".
I asked here if someone has found a solution on this issue. It is not the right place to do that ?

Of course you can ask for help here regarding the usage. But problems with the software are unlikely solved here - from my experience.

If you want to get ahead you need to offer yourself on GitHub or Discord to test possible (new) solutions. The developer(s) do not own the hardware and problem solving needs testing - a catch22 if everybody is just sitting at home waiting for their particular problem to be solved magically by doing nothing. Sorry, this is the way it works currently.

The guys are highly responsible and my personal forecast is this: OCLP will push away all other current solution. So please do the first step there. Worst thing that can happen: No solution available.

It's extaordinnary as you know me. I asked somthing and you think that I have not tried to do some test, some change.
I added comment on a ticket opened on github to says what I am testing to help the investigation.

I tested to add vit9696 and with it The system boots normally but I encountered an issue with sleep after that.

I used open core without modifying my system with a standard plist and my system works correctly. I don't have the OTA update but it's not a big deal. If I asked this question is to help the development team to find a solution.

But now I know that if I need something I will not ask here.

Have a nice day, and thank you for your help.

Same here in all respects!

I've seen your messages in the GitHub Issues too.

does anyone have airplay working?
NO, not here...just started searching for a cause, reason, etc.

I'm on a MP 5,1. Same computer was (and is) able to do Airplay on Mojave, but Music can't find two apple tv's (4th and 4K), an airport express, HTR, etc. However, it CAN Airplay to a 3rd gen Apple TV.

on iMac 12,2 with k610 graphics and no joy with airplay either - would be good to hear if anyone has it working.

Just checked on my daughter's Mac Mini that supports Big Sur. Airplay works to any and all devices on the network as I would expect it to. Airplay appears in Safari on youtube. Music will Airplay to all devices. In System Preferences/Displays Airplay Display shows all available devices (on my MP, I only have Off).

So what's the difference? Could it be a DRM issue with the GPU I'm running? Radeon R9 280X (using HDMI out to a HP monitor). I can see how that would NOT allow me to stream DRM content from the Big Sur Apple TV app, could this be a cause for audio not streaming?

I used a daily driver Mojave to install Opencore, then updated that OS to Big Sur. I bought the Mini used and used recovery to format the drive and reinstall Big Sur.

On my MBPr mid 2012 Airplay works fine (on Sky Q receivers and ATV 3rd gen). Mind that I upgraded my Airport card, don't know whether this makes a difference. Now I'm using OCLP but it worked fine also when I used barrykn's micropatcher.
