I think update from patched 11.2 with micropatcher 0.5.4 or dev-0.5.5 works flawlessly (MBP 2012)?

EDIT: OK I see a difference between 0.5.4 and dev-0.5.5. I have to use instead "install-opencore.sh" of "install-setvars.sh" which I used before. Can I update it with dev-0.5.5 or what are the advantages/disadvantages of opencore?

I just want to report success with updating my stock Macmini6,1 with OCLP 0.1.0 from 11.2.3 to 11.3 via "Software Update". It was my first OTA Update after switching from barrykn's micropatcher to OCLP, it feels like my Mac Mini is still part of the official game now. :)

Micropatcher 0.5.1 function with big sur 11.3 ?
Hi
Yes micropatcher 0.5.1 work with BS 11.3

4 "stupid" questions before installing BigSur on MacMini 2012:
1. Should I backup Firmware using RomTool? Does OCLP or micropatcher modify Firmware?
2. If I choose micropatcher the hibernation with SSD from Samsung will not work?
3. If I choose OCLP I need 2 pendrives (1st for BigSur installer, 2nd for OCLP) right?
4. After intalling BigSur - pendrive with OCLP must be always put into the computer, right?
Possibly there are no stupid questions at all. But there are people not willing to read the docs :)

1. Backup: Yes! modify firmware: No! Apple software did it unintentionally during early phases of Big Sur with particular iMac 2012/2013 models...
2. Why not?
3. No, you can have both on one pen drive (read the OCLP docs!)
4. No, only during boot. But you can install OpenCore to your internal SSD without any harm (read the OCLP docs!)

Thanks for using this version of the micropatcher!

Some weeks ago I moved all development over to OCLP - I would recommend to use this software in future. The huge advantage of OpenCore and your system will be: Apple Software Update will work again! Give it a try!

Hello everyone! So with 11.3's official release today, we're proud to announce that we've released OpenCore Legacy Patcher v0.1.1! And with it, beta support for GPU Acceleration Patches!

Overall we're insanely impressed with the progress made regarding acceleration support and have to give a huge round of applause to our very own @ASentientBot. While not perfect, these acceleration patches are very much usable and even daily drivable for those willing to tolerate the odd visual glitches here and there. And building off the foundation ASentientBot had laid with their Nvidia Acceleration Patches, we were able to get AMD's TeraScale 1 series, Intel's IronLake and Sandy Bridge series all working fantastically! However please keep expectations low, as these patches are still in beta and are under heavy development.
  • Note 1: with macOS 11.3 Beta 2 and newer, there is heavy display artifacting on AMD GPUs during sleep wake, display resolution changing and connecting external displays. We highly advise users to stay on 11.2.3 or older until we've resolved the issue.
    • Nvidia and Intel GPUs are not affected
  • Note 2: Mac Pro users with NVMe drives should be wary of installing 11.3 as well due to the device being present resulting in boot issues
  • Note 3: For current known issues with acceleration patches, check out the associated Github issue
For the first 2 notes, I've uploaded an 11.2.3 Installer on Archive.org for users to easily download when Apple removes the app from their servers:
And our final announcement for today is that we've started our very own discord server, OpenCore Patcher Paradise! The goal of this server is to help consolidate information, testing, issues and such into one server. With the influx of users trying the acceleration patches, we highly recommend popping in our server if you have any concerns or want to share success posts.

Mid-2012 retina MacBook Pro, i7, 10,1 with upgrade wifi 802.11ac now running Big Sur 11.3 (20E232) installed using BarryKN's 0.5.1 micropatcher. Note: I know OCLP works, but I'm not interested in OTA updates -- I like the full install!

• No problems except as before with Big Sur I needed to disable displaypolicyd to enable dynamic switching so that discrete graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M can be used with Adobe Photoshop 2021.

• Once again I ran the install-setvars -e option to enable SIP and ARV.

• The install took 36 minutes in total. All steps were done exactly the same as I did for each Big Sur since 11.0.1.

• No graphics artifacts noticed; cooling works normally with both fans running at minimal rpms (2160 left, 2000 right: verified with Sensei v. 1.4.1) while running Safari and Brave Browser with many open tabs, plus Graphic Converter and Photoshop 2021, plus running a QuickTime 720p movie. In other words, no heating problems despite overloading the graphics and processor.

• Not bad for a device bought in 2012!

It's awesome guys!!

Successfully updated my old mac mini 3.1 (late 2009) to MacOS Big Sur 11.3

Patcher - OCLP 0.1.1
Options - default + system volume postinstall patch
issues - without issues, just pushed - Update =))

All works fine, nvidia 9400M acceleration (with some artifacts), WIFi and Bluetooth, sound.

It's awesome and great work guys!!

Great thanks for your hardest work!

can you just run this over patched Big Sur 11.2.3 OS? or still have to use patch tools for my old imac 27" 2012.
You have to download the OCLP app once, generate and install OpenCore (on your internal disk in your case) and then you might use Apple Software Update to install the lates Big Sur version over your existing patched installation.
If this does not work well creating and using an unmodified USB installer will do the job in any case. Please read the few lines of docs on the OCLP download page.
Unless you delete your internal disk all you data and settings should be save.

You have to install OpenCore once!

Hi all
Successful installation of Big Sur 11.3 on cMP5.1 (SSD in SATA port, I didn't try with NVMe), with Barry's micropatcher 0.5.1

But I encountered some issues, during the update from 11.2.3 to 11.3, on the first reboot, remained frozen on the boot screen (gray apple), progress bar at 50%, impossible to get white apple screen and continue the the second part of installation, I forced the shutdown and started again, I tryed 4 times with the same problem each time.

So I decided to format the SSD and perform a clean install, but also encountered some issues.

During the installation, on the third restart, remained frozen on the boot screen (2 times with the progress bar at 50% and once with empty progress bar) I therefore forced the shutdown 3 times. Then on the fourth attempt, the progress bar went quickly to 100% then restarted and still got frozen on the boot screen with empty progress bar, so I forced shutdown and then start once again. At this time everything went correctly and I finally got the Big Sur configuration screen.

I had installed Big Sur when it 1st came out for testing purposes on my mid 2009 McBook Pro ( 5,4) Though as there was no acceleration it was unusable so I had given up on trying again with an installation.

Recently though I had noted developments in OpenCore and my hopes were raised further when ASentientBot had been working on acceleration patches bundled into the latest OCLP v0.1.1.

I am now rocking Big Sur 11.3 with BT , Wifi and acceleration (working almost perfectly - just a few very minor issues with artifacts).....could almost be used as a daily driver.....but still just using for testing purposes.

Many thanks for all concerned with OCLP for your amazing work.

it will eventually install on cMP5,1, but boot success rate is 10-20%. If you don't reboot you should be ok.

Please! How do I install?
I downloaded macOS Installer - 11.3 build 20E232 (InstallAssistant.pkg) and also OpenCore-Patcher. I have an external HD formatted with GUID and an SSD with an APFS partition (BigSUR). I am using Mac OS Catalina on a Macbook Pro 13 "2010.

Here are the docs hidden...

And possibly you should start with Big Sur 11.2.3 - using this version we had the most successful installations during the non public beta.

Follow this guide from page 1 to install the latest Big Sur build using OCLP but only use for testing purposes for now.
