I just realized that with OCLP Build 0.1.6 (OpenCore is 0.7.0) Magic Mouse and Apple Trackpad are no longer recognised at boot on the Opencore Picker screen and not even on the macOS Login screen with FileVault. So, then they work fine in Big Sur and even if I boot into Recovery Mode.
I tried resetting SMC and PRAM and also modifying UEFI -> AppleInput, using Auto instead of Builtin; but without success. Any idea? They always worked great before.
(Note: I'm not sure if they started working bad with OCLP Build 0.1.6 or even some other previous Main Build).
Thank you very much

Hi,

No slowdown and overheating CPUs with your i5?

Finally here with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7 four hearts (Macmini6,2) with 16 GB of RAM, i decide to came back to Catalina, because my mid 2012 was starting to heat more than usual and turn the fan, with in the activity monitor a kernel-task a little high.
On my mac mini 6,2 (i7 2.3 on 11.4 w/ OLCP) I found that mdsync was hogging 99% cpu. Theoretically with quad core + hyperthreading, that isn't ... terrible ... but it does seem excessive. Killing the process fixes the problem, but that makes for long term spotlight problems. I figured it would eventually go away, but it stayed high for over a day.
Rebooting doesn't seem to help.
kernel_task seems to sit at around 2.5% which seems reasonable.

Apple Wireless Keyboard works fine w/OCLP v.0.1.6 Boot Picker on Mini3,1, 11.4.

A Time Machine share will cause MDS and it's hoard of attendants to hog your Mac CPU. It can't be excluded from Spotlight.

Panics began.
I wonder is there 11.5 beta as main reason or maybe kind of conflict with OCLP.

So I know you all are using OpenCore and the older patching method is kind of dead, but I'm going down with my ship, and to finish everything up, I have one last goal and getting there I might need a little help with (I will switch to OC with macOS 12, also Objective-C, and also try to fix every other dumb decision I've made with this patcher, that has nothing to do with this though). I think someone has already figured out it, so I'm just going to ask here before confusing myself more haha.

I was trying to patch the kexts on an installer USB's BaseSystem, so I patched the kexts, fixed the permissions then went to rebuild the kernel collection, but I noticed that there's not a kernel. I check macOS Base System, the Preboot, and the main Install macOS Big Sur volume, but nothing.

I later noticed that @jackluke had a repo on GitHub that does this, but without any source code that explains how the kernel was rebuilt (https://github.com/jacklukem/BigSurfixes), the only source code I could find was the scripts to copy a pre-made custom kernel collection to the USB.

I'm wondering, does anyone know (possibly jackluke, maybe someone else) how this was achieved? I could just be dumb/blind and I'm missing something big that could help me (I probably am...), but I thought it would be good to come here since somebody probably knows what I'm missing.

Thanks in advance!

So I eventually got to thinking if I can do something really stupid to achieve this. I'm going to make a macOS install, replace all the kexts on it with the ones from the installer USB, and then run kmutil on the macOS installer. Finally, I'll copy the kexts and kernel cache to the installer USB.
It might work, it might not work. We'll see!

Do you have WIFI enable ?

On my mini 6,2, as soon as i put the wifi on, kernel_task jumped 2.7% to 12% to make spikes at 18/20 and stay there at the top of the list ...

No slowdown and overheating CPUs with your i5?

Nothing like that. No high kernel_task CPU util.

you current patch giving 1x1 error[already raised by someone else on your GitHub) while making the install media. Hope to see this sorted.

This is hopeful for us MP5,1 users. I haven’t tried updating so am still on 11.2.3.

I was pointed to this separate thread https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-os-11-3-has-broken-support-for-older-mac-pros.2289056/ for all info on the 5,1 issues; might be usefull to post your experience there as well.

Today I updated from 11.4 to 11.5 beta. Everything works perfect except the glitches , screenshot. Iused the oclp 0.1.6 and photos work ok. I have brightness. I can use it for daily use. Don't hear any fans. You are a great team. The glitches I have are on Safari and finder.

WiFi is enabled, but kernel_task stays fairly low ...

You may want update your OCLP? Consider the nightly build at 0.1.6, here: https://nightly.link/dortania/OpenC...flows/build-app/main/OpenCore-Patcher.app.zip

Is the process trustd running amok? Go to the directory /private/var/protected/trustd/ Delete the valid.sqlite3 files. When rebooting with a network connection Apple will rebuild the .sqlite files, trustd will peak briefly, then CPU activity will return to normal for good. 😎
Do I also delete valid.sqlte3-shm & -wal files. please confirm. I already deleted the valid.sqlite3 file

I guess it's necessary to be done once. My panics appear not in the run of installation (that's OK on OCLP 0.1.2) but suddenly during normal OS work.

You cannot boil it down to a specific software in use or hardware piece which is broken or became unreliable after nearly 10 years? Memory can always be a source of joy and trouble.

Yes, difficult to track down a piece of software that is now throwing up kernel panics.

I suspect @Tockman did not start clean when first upgraded to Big Sur.

I would go about:
- clean install of Big Sur (erase disk and start all over)
- do not migrate apps
- all new install of apps but only minimal apps needed and ditch apps that are no longer used
- copy across data files needed
