Me too. It has happened also during navigating in finder but most of the times it happens after opening a few more Safari tabs. I can still navigate in already open tabs but cannot refresh or load another webpage. If I click on any app on the dock it crashes (including Finder) and the windows start closing one after another.
I use iStat Menus to check stats from my iMac and I have noticed an instant increase on gpu memory from 40% to 90% after opening 3-4 tabs on Safari. I will stop using Safari and stick with Brave. It's working much better. The increase on the graph below is captured while I was using more than 4 tabs on Safari.

I had the same problem with random crashes in various apps.
What I did and it stopped, is to make a script running the command
Code:
sudo purge
and make it running automatically every hour. The crashes are gone for well since then.

Hi,

Maybe my questions is already answered in this 492 page thread but I did not find an answer.
Is Big Sur running on an MacBook Air 4.2 (Intel HD Graphics 3000, Sandy Bridge) using OCLP 0.25?
And if yes, is the photos app still usable?

The most adopted patcher able to support non metal graphics acceleration is OCLP. Check the online docs, especially the support list, join the Discord server mentioned on the download page to ask further questions.

About the photos app: It is getting more and more metal features making it difficult to use it as before.

Hey guys, first post here.

How should I proceed to patch my MBP mid 2010 (MacbookPro6,2) to address the GPU kernel panic issue? On Catalina I've used fabioiop's fix as well as codykriger's app but none appear to work for Big Sur (yet).

Some here (eg.) appear to be using jackluke’s BigSurBaseSystemFix to install in combination with OCLP.

How should I go about doing that, assuming that’s the best way to address the GPU kernel panic?

Install pathway:

> Clean install of Big Sur 11.5.2 (20G95) on an internal SSD APFS volume, using OCLP 0.2.5
> Updated to Big Sur 11.6 (natively through macOS)
> Rebuilt and Repatched post-installation with OCLP 0.2.5 just to be safe
Everything working absolutely fine bar the occasional GPU panic crash.

So, isn’t there some way to install specifically the GPU fix, as fabioiop’s app did in the past?
If not, how do you recommend I go about this? I'd rather not uninstall Big Sur 11.6 thru OCLP as it's working so well apart from the GPU issue.
Well thank you all for the immense help :p

Either way, thought I'd update and say that I changed the kext file in the OCLP EFI volume and I don't have any GPU crashes anymore. No need for any fancy combo-installations of BigSurBaseSystemFix and OCLP as some here have done - just OCLP and change the kext. Anyway cheers and good luck y'all!

Good to know it worked for you. just curious to learn what exactly did you do to the kext? I am interested to learn for injecting kext in general but don’t know where to start?
The only thing I know so far is that the config.plist has entries for all the kext and I can use ProperTree to edit it.

This is slightly off topic here, but this thread and its first post is explaining how to build an OpenCore distribution yourself starting from the scratch. Read the first post line by line.

Is it safe to upgrade form OS X Catalina 10.15.7 installed trought OpenCore ver 0.6.4 in a Mid 2021 Mac Pro going straight to Apple Software Update? Should I take something into account before proceeding?

Ask about Catalina on the other thread, sure the users will help!

Hello my friends. Updated my cMP4,1>5,1 with OCLP 0.2.5 and Big Sur (a previous version before 11.6, because I couldn't download 11.6, idk why). Once installed, OTA update to 11.6 was smooth. In order to avoid boot freezing, I updated to OCLP 0.3.0 and I appears to be okay now. The only problems I have are with - apparently - VMware Horizon Client I need to access my working environment. The system freezes and reboot automatically after a while. Once rebooted, USBs doesn't work until a complete shutdown. Waking up from power saving isn't possible too.

Anyone experiencing same behavior? While using some specific software? I can use this machine for 12 hours perfectly but most of the time I open VMware Horizon Client it freezes almost immediately or 5 minutes later. I disabled some CODEC resources but appears not did effect.

I'm using a Asus Strix R9 380 2GB non flashed GPU and a Kingston A400 SATA SSD. No other components. 16GB of 1066Mhz RAM.

Edit: I had the eqMac too, and in my MBP8,3 with Catalina Patcher it uses to freeze, but in that Mac, I simply kill coreaudiod and all returns to work. I removed the eqMac now from cMP5,1 to see what happens.
Removed Camo Studio too.

Using OCLP nightly 0.3.0 on my MacBook Pro6,1 from mid-2010 got me running Big Sur 11.6 (upgraded from the dosdude1 unsupported Mojave patcher) with only minor remaining issues detected so far. Wow. I don't even care that SIP is off and I'll have to download full installers during future upgrades because the "seal is broken."

To anyone else trying to get past the blocking dialog during the first launch of Maps and Find My in Big Sur, the invisible button you're trying to click is centered in the dialog, about a half inch above the bottom. If that doesn't match up for you, just start clicking in that general area. I had been thinking it was an invisible close or "X" in the upper corners but that isn't the place!

The other big issue after the upgrade that I have now resolved was the inability to enable certain extensions in Safari. It looks like this will an ongoing problem but I now have the secret sauce to overcome it when it shows up.

I'm having some issues creating a bootable USB installer for Big Sur 11.6.
I'm using OCLP the, TUI interface version, and following the directions on
https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/BOOT.html.
I get to the part where you are supposed to,
"Reboot machine while holding Option to select the EFI Boot entry with the
OpenCore icon." When I hold down the option key and reboot nothing happens.
I held the option key down for over a minute, but all that happened was my
monitor went to sleep. I tried the putting the USB stick in both the front
and rear USB ports with the same result. Just to note, the process of
installing open core to the USB seemed to go as it should according to the
info given via the OCLP Terminal interface window and I confirmed that
open core is in stalled on the USB sticks EFI partion and that the Big Sur
installer app is on the USB sticks regualr partition. I've tried this on
both my Mac Pro 5.1 and my Macbook 7.1 with the same results.
Can anyone shed some light on what I'm doing wrong?

You hold Option when reboots, at listening the chime. Right?

@trifero.

Yes. I tried on both machines, my Mac Pro 5.1 and my Macbook 7, holding down the option key right after the chime. Same results on both computers.

Hey!
Don’t know if that question has been answered already but i´ve got a problem with my MacPro 3,1
i used version 0.2.4 and BigSur before 11.6

it installed everything fine on my ssd and i installed all the post install patches and the resolution patch. After that i wrote the recommended settings from Mr. Macintosh into the Boot EFI.
After the reboot i tried to boot from my ssd but the only thing that happens is that my screen stays dark and nothing happens.

any idea what im doing wrong?

thanks

That's right.
I'm using an MBP5,2 with non-metal Nvidia 9600M GT.

Photos 6.0 in BigSur is running fine.

The Photos which comes with Monterey (beta 8 now) I can't really use anymore. It crashes whenever switching to another album.
See #1,840 in the Monterey thread - I can use Photos 7.0 now in 12.0 beta 8.

Problem is, you did not create the USB installer correctly.

It is not the app that should be there; it needs to be created proper, see guide in link below.

It allows a Mac that supports NVMe natively (an updated Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1 for example) to actually boot from NVMe. The fix in OCLP is provided for computers that do not support NVMe booting.
My apologies for my ignorance on the subject, but what exactly is this NVMe?

Hello,

I have a question concerning the status of the SIP on my Mac mini 6.2 late 2012 i7, switched to BigSur with OCLP
(it works perfectly).

When I check the status of the SIP, this is what I get:

Mac-mini: ~ macmini $ csrutil status System Integrity Protection status: unknown (Custom Configuration). Configuration: Apple Internal: disabled Kext Signing: disabled Filesystem Protections: disabled Debugging Restrictions: disabled DTrace Restrictions: disabled NVRAM Protections: disabled BaseSystem Verification: disabled This is an unsupported configuration, likely to break in the future and leave your machine in an unknown state. Mac-mini: ~ macmini $

On an iMac late 2013 14.1 also in BigSur with the same setting of the OCLP patch I get this:

imac @ iMac-21 ~% csrutil status System Integrity Protection status: disabled. imac @ iMac-21 ~%

Why don't I have the same on the Mac mini?

Thank you very much for your lights!

And long live this community!

Hello guys,

I am currently running Catalina installed on an external ssd which is connected to the mac (late 2012) via usb port. I have tried to install BigSur using the opencorepatcher... The installation failed, the mac rebooted and reverted back to Catalina... Is it even possible to use the opencorepatcher to install onto an external drive?

Thank you very much in advance for any informations!
