Getting closer with MBP5,2 (mid 2009, non-metal, legacy USB).
I've made my account auto-login, and it boots to my desktop. Slow of course, sometimes freezing, but mail, Safari etc. do work for a while. Because of the freezing, I write this from BS.

I didn't attempt a clean installation, on the contrary...
- starting with an existing 11.5b2 installation which contains all user data, settings etc by migration from Catalina. It does contain root volume patches for graphics acceleration
- cloned it (CCC full clone) to another SSD on USB
- installed 12.0b over it with OCLP 0.1.7; it boots to the intermitting spinning wheel instead of the login screen
- setting auto-login for my existing account makes it boot to my desktop.

Have a look at the Monterey Discord discussion. Thanks to jackluke for many hints.
I've added the AppleUSBACM.kext for Arduino (as suggested long ago by ASentientBot), using jackluke's BigSurmountrw.app, from BigSur.
That Arduino patch still works in Monterey... not interesting for too many probably.

Writing this from Monterey on MBP5,2. Slow but no crash or freeze.

Just a quick heads-up: In looking at a dump that @Larsvonhier sent me (regarding an issue he posted earlier), I discovered that mediaanalysisdcontains AVX instructions with no apparent test for AVX availability (much like we saw with the SSE4.2 instructions in the AMD video drivers). I'm guessing that the oldest officially supported machines all support AVX (I haven't looked), so Apple no longer needs to worry about testing for AVX availability before using the instructions. I don't have time for an in-depth analysis right now, and I don't know precisely what Lars was doing/how his system was configured that the AVX instructions got executed, but be aware that we may see more unfiltered AVX+ instructions over time. If you get an application crash or panic report that contains "Illegal Instruction," I'd like to hear about it - it's probably worth documenting these, so we know what needs to be worked around/avoided.
At this time (current beta of 12.0) the AVX instructions I noticed seem to be encountered whenever a time machine backup finishes and some post-backup processes run. Good news here is that the backup integrity seems ok and there are no crash report popups from the system. It´s "only" visible in console or the log files.

I´ll also try to re-configure my cMP3,1 with the El-Cap era wifi module again to see what the crash dump in network system settings is all about and send that report to @Syncretic as well. If someone has such a setup already, that would also come handy.

On my iMac 13.2 Late 2012 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX 2 GB and 802.11ac Wi-Fi card, I have seen that Photo Booth works but Apple TV, Netflix and Amazon Prime do not work.

Do you know what the solution might be? On Big Sur everything worked correctly, thanks!!

This is the login window which doesn't work without Metal, but instead it crashes and this cirlce is shown. See e.g. jackluke's post #412 .
The fix isn't easy but possible - maybe better to wait for a good workaround for that.

I successfully installed it on MacBook Air6,1 with Open-Core 0.1.7 nightly.

Everything work so far except that,

I can seem to download apps from the App Store (will probably check if for filtering softwares),
from the App Store I can start the download but there is no progress, it's been there for days now.

I sometime experienced random kernel panic and finder seems slow.

The trick is to make the system assume setup isn't done yet, by deleting the file
/<your Monterey volume>/private/var/db/.AppleSetupDone
(these hidden files are shown in Finder windows with SHIFT-CMD-.).
On next reboot it will enter setup again; slow unfortunately on machines without graphics acceleration.
When logged in as a (new) admin user, under system preferences / accounts, activate auto-login for your preferred user. Then on subsequent boots it should proceed right to this user's desktop.

As i wrote above.. got a working BS on my Mini2012, create a Stick with createinstallmedia. Using the latest Patcher to patch the Stick (EFI) to install/upgrade my BS. After Install it is important to boot from created EFI on Stick, select installed Monterey on SSD. Edit the Patcher.app config to disable "Set SIP and SecureBootModel:" both to FALSE. Patching the Monterey-Installation following the Steps 1...2...3. In Step 3 Patcher will download several Files (for HD4000). Thats it is.
Reboot with ALT-Key, select the EFI- on SSD and boot Monterey (SSD). If all is working, set Bootvolume in System Preferences for faster Boot.

I noticed that the fans were on a lot during the installation but temps are normal running it.

How is the speed?
I am curious, I tried to install Monterey (beta) the evening it was released on my 2012 Mac Mini, *"back then" it resulted in a bogged system.

*How quickly this seems to have changed with HD4000 "support".
