Macbook Pro rMBP 10,1 mid 2012 and Macbook Air 3,2 2010 updated to
Monterey 12.5.1 via OCLP 0.4.10. No obvious issues so far.
Did you run into any problems with the MBA3,2?
I managed to do rMBP10,1 to Monterey using OCLP 0.4.10 and a MBP8,1 with no problems at All, but the Macbook Air 3,2 doesn’t want to take it. During installation, I get to ‘13 minutes remaining’, it stalls for a while and then the screen goes white and the computer just hangs (no caps lock light activity).
I tried many times, erasing the internal drive every time to make sure it’s a clean install. Tried NVRAM reset, no change.
Tried BigSur instead, same issue.

Please save, compress and upload the IONetworkingFamily.kext from Monterey 12.2. You find this folder in /System/Library/Extensions . Copy to your desktop and compress there...

Thanks in advance!

(P.S.: If you know how to patch it back into the current 12.6 installation your might try it yourself...)
Thank you for your instructions.
Unfortunately I do not know how to patch it back (and google didn't get me anywhere close).
So I got the file and attached it.

Can I do anything else?

No problems at all with either. Just making sure you have not missed this:
You are aware that you have to keep the alt key depressed for every restart on those older Macs to get to the boot icons?
If you miss that, you need to force a restart and keep the alt key pressed for the install to continue.
Good luck.

Disclaimer:
I do not own an MacPro5,1 and it would be by far more easy if you find a user capable of root patching and debugging.

Need to know:
The patching of Big Sur and later has been described by Apple in the Kernel Debug Kits, you just need to download one from the Appel developer account (free) and check the included single readme file. The cycle is quite simple:

1. identify and mount the root
2. replace files on the mounted path
3. adjust permissions (chmod -R 0:0 and chown -R 755 applied to the extension you just changed)
4. rebuild kernel using kmutil (only needed if your change kernel extensions)
5. create a new bootable snapshot
6. reboot

On reboot press CMD+V on the OC boot picker to enable the verbose mode or edit the config.plist to have it permanently enabled - just in case the system hangs.

Patching:
After mounting the root your can just try to replace the complete kernel extension (brute force method) or the few internal plugins named like your cards vendor inside the package. Use Finder show contents to browse through the complete package.

Recovery: (patched system does not boot)
You should be able to enter the recovery partition of your 12.6 test installation (press space on the OC boot picker) in case the new kernel does not boot. Just boot into recovery, open a terminal and enter (assuming you have named the APFS container Monterey12.6:

Code:
mount -uw /Volumes/Monterey12.6
bless --mount /Volumes/Monterey12.6 --bootefi --last-sealed-snapshot

This will throw you back into the unpatched original state after primary installation and you are ready to retry.

P.S.:
If you feel not comfortable to do all this wait for other users to tackle this...

Is there a way to only apply SOME of the post-install root patches?

For example. Before I apply the available patches, my keyboard backlight works perfectly.

Other then some graphical things I need, i.e. external monitor ability, I don't think my mac needs as many patches as its patching. 🤷‍♂️

Regardless of the patches, my brightness HUD is still glitchy. Transposes one HUD on top of the other meant for the external display.

Could also be the reason TotalFinder isn't working after patching. Something in these 3 patches goofs it up. Causes the following error:
rootpatches.png troubleslaunching.png
Reverting it works fine.
Any insight would be appreciated.

No, unless you write your own patcher or patch completely manually. You are free to check the source code and fork it.

Thanks very much for replying.
I did the ‘Alt/Option’ key to select the EFI-Boot from the beginning, but I don’t recall ever getting through the installation far enough for it to restart. After selecting ‘Install OS Monterey’, I just followed the on-screen prompts to install it to the Macintosh HD, and away it went for 15 minutes or so before hitting the white screen problem.
I managed to recover back to High Sierra for now until I figure out how to overcome this issue.

Oops! Spoke too soon. There are some websites I cannot log into. Some I can, like this one. 0.4.6 worked perfectly on my Mac Pro 5.1. I used the latest version on my MacBook Pro 5.1. I think I’ll try to reload Monterey with an earlier version of OCLP.
Is this a Safari 16.0 problem or an OCLP 0.4.11 issue? Has anyone else experienced this?

Just thought I'd ask if anyone else here has updated to Monterey on the 2014, 5K iMac (15,1)? I had no problem doing this with the OpenCore installer but serious issues with unresponsiveness and associated application hangs soon began and I eventually had to revert back to Big Sur! Not sure what was going on, but I suspect the fact that this Mac runs a Fusion drive had something to do with it. The OpenCore boot patch could be installed on either the SSD or HD components of the Fusion (I tried both) and although booting was OK with either, the hangs and unresponsiveness began regardless. No post-install root patches were required, presumably because they're not required on this model. I like the subtle changes brought in with Monterey so it's a shame I can't run it on this otherwise excellent Mac.

^^^ 12.6.1 is still in beta: so it won’t show up, unless you are enrolled in the beta channel. As for an unresponsive system just after a major OS upgrade, this could just as well be a quite normal thing (indexing, caches, etc. etc.), as it could not: if it persists, of course there surely are some problems…

Confused... question... I can't see 12.6.1 in System Preferences Software Update, but I can see it when I ask OCLP to download a macOS installer!!!??? Why is that? Can I install 12.6.1 by running /Applications/Install macOS Monterey?
It's a beta. Wait until it launches officially and do not get confused by people installing it enthusiastically and not mentioning it is from the beta program.

Sorry, I know it`s out of the thread, but wanted to share with you. I have a new Macbook Pro M1 Pro and it´s insane the performance, thermal signature, battery, display, etc.

I´m afraid I wont be using my beloved Macbook pro 17" 2011 much from now on.

Hi guys. After OC running pretty much flawlessly for some time I am now finding that my Mac will no longer shutdown properly, nor will it ever wake again from sleep once it does.

On shutdown everything quits etc and the sounds wind down but it stays on the desktop pic for a long time (10 min+). If nothing is done it will eventually restart itself, without a chime, presenting the 'computer didn't shut down properly' message before starting up. The crash reports seem to be the same every time.

If allowed to sleep nothing will happen when keyboard or mouse is activated. Sometimes it sounds like mechanically its waking but sometimes not.

Any ideas where to start looking to try and fix this? Its completely the same every time now and not random at all.
Thanks.

Hi guys. After OC running pretty much flawlessly for some time I am now finding that my Mac will no longer shutdown properly, nor will it ever wake again from sleep once it does.
Have you reset SMC & NVRAM?

Is this a Safari 16.0 problem or an OCLP 0.4.11 issue? Has anyone else experienced this?
I have loaded OCLP 0.4.11 3 times with latest Monterey. Safari 15.6.1 runs fine. Safari 16.0 And beta 16.1 will not allow me to sign into certain websites. Others, it will. I am using a MacBook Pro 5.1. I don’t know if it’s OCLP 0.4.11 or the Sarfari version. I am able to use Safari 16.0 on OCLP 0.4.6, so I’m guessing it’s the OCLP 0.4.11

I am probably unclear with my suggestions.
If your situation is anything like mine, the white screen is probably simply indicative of an attempted restart without alt key pressed. So when you see that, just try and force quit with long press on power key, then start again with power key while pressing alt-key.
You should then see and be able to select the current install partition usually named MacOS install and continue the install. In my experience, OCLP installs on these Macbook Airs has to be supervised to press alt for each restart.
Good luck.
I tried doing the reboot when I hit the white/grey screen, but from the bootpicker there was no option for MacOS Install (with the Monterey background). Only EFI Boot, macOS Installer, Untitled (High Sierra), and Install OS Monterey (from the USB boot disk), so I believe the installer hadn't reached the point where it is usable. When clicking 'macOS Installer', I am faced with the 'No usable OS error screen ø'.
During the installation process the progress bar reached 'About 12 minutes remaining' which is when the white/grey screen appears.
I've tried this a number of times with different approaches (clean install after Disk Utility erase of internal disk, NVRAM reset), but each time, I get this far with the same results.

Trying again now with different USB device (external SSD).
I also realised I wasn't checking for the installer inside the EFI Boot Disk 🤦‍♂️
My other Macs were so straight forward.

Update. After half a dozen “hang at white screen” occurrences, each time I powered down the Mac, restarted with Alt key, go to EFI BOOT and choose the installer with Disk icon. It finally went through.
I kind of know this is documented in OCLP website but the description isn’t quite as what I was seeing.

Anyway, thanks guys for the support. Greatly appreciated.
