Hi everyone,

Is there any solution for serious UI lag? I just bought a used 17-inch Macbook Pro (2011) and installed Monterey with OCLP 0.4.11. Everything is perfect except the UI lags. Scrolling pages in the browser and swiping in launchpad. It's so slow that I can't see the animation and I have to wait for proceeding.
I think it was caused by the GPU, so I tried patching with TS2 Accerlate in OCLP 0.4.1.1, and set the GPU up in the terminal but nothing worked. The lags still exist. So I'm here to ask, any way to solve this? Can I just disable the iGPU and use the dGPU?
Have run the post install root patches from the OCLP app?
I disabled the dGPU. via the nvram code; (text below found on this forum) & the old MBP8,2 doesn't have the lag you mention, it is not "fast" but usable.

Currently OpenCore Legacy Patcher, GPU switching between the iGPU and dGPU is broken. The simplest way to set a specific GPU is to disable the dGPU when you wish to remain on the more power efficient iGPU.

The best way to achieve this is to boot Recovery (or Single User Mode if the dGPU refuses to function at all) and run the following command: (can also use the OCLP system install USB drive and terminal)

nvram FA4CE28D-B62F-4C99-9CC3-6815686E30F9:gpu-power-prefs=%01%00%00%00

This will disable the dGPU and allow the iGPU to function in Big Sur and Monterey. Note that external display outputs are directly routed to the dGPU and therefore can no longer be used.

Thank you for the information. Yes, I run the post-root patches after installation. It doesn't work.
I also run the NVRAM command both under the recovery mode and os. No effects.

You can still use external monitors via an USB Gpu.

Thank you, but I want to know if there's any solution that I can use dGPU only or fix the UI lag, Monterey works well on my mac but the UI lag makes me pain...
I'm trying to roll back to Big Sur and see its behavior.

Also, some apps are broken on my A1297 like Podcast and Maps. I open them and they freeze, can't click, can't close the window until I force them to qiut.

I have another problem unfortionutly, after updating one of our 27" 2011 iMac's to Monterey using OCLP.
This iMac now needs an update, since it is still running a dosdude1 patched mojave 10.14.6 install.

I made a time machine and CCC image back-up, to be safe and able to return to Mojave if needed.

After doing a fresh install of 12.6 using OCLP, and everything is running fine, I start the migration assistant to copy over the user account and apps from Mojave but unfortionutly I am getting Kernel Panic's after the final needed reboot for the migration assistant.
The migration assistant ends with a succes so it says.

I came with this problem here before for other mac's, with the same kernel panic problems using the migration assistant.
This time I only selected the user account and applications, but still a KP.
Some of you said OCLP will not work with Migration assistant, some of you gave me some tips like deselecting other items so I did.

I think the dosdude1 patches are perhaps the problem of giving a KP ?
is there a way to completly remove them.. ?

I am now planning on doing a test, to migrate first over to a non patched Mojave install, and then upgrade that install to a newer MacOS on a supported Mac.
And then afterwarts use the iMac with Monterey OCLP and start the migration assistant again.
Perhaps this way all the patches are gone, since I have only used vanilla original MacOS sources.. ?

anyone else here has perhaps some advice for me ?
We really need this user account, we cannot live without.
Doing everything manually is a no go, too much data.

I hope there must be a way to get the migration assistant to work somehow, and not end up with a KP and not booting Monterey at all anymore...

Thanks in advance,

TM seems to be broken on patched Big Sur or patched Monterey systems. The only way to get around this is to revert from the patches (works on Monterey and later) via OCLP or to avoid applying the patches needed on Monterey and migrate data first.

Additionally you are migrating from 32/64bit to 64bit only. When I did this migration years ago took only user data (aka contents of my $HOME, no apps, no settings, not application data. All applications needed to be re-installed, of course. 32bit apps would not run anyway.

You can manually set up a user on patched Monterey and copy the contents of your $HOME manually from any TM backup you have. Guess I did this three years ago.

Thanks for your message.
I thought it was perhaps broken, since I was trying to import an patched Mojave.
Anyone I was wrong here I guess..

32-bits apps is not a problem, if some wont work..

what is your advice to revert from the patches.. ?

I am now migrating the user data from the patched Mojave to a clean vanilla Mojave, and then use my Macbook Air 2015, to migrate over to a clean/vanilla Monterey.
So I then I have a Monterey install, which is clean withouth patches, and than migrate that one over to our 2011 27" iMac running Monterey with OCLP.
I thought/hope trough this way, I can perhaps elimante all the patches within Mojave, and keep everything clean, since no patched/OCLP MacOS isn't used anymore...

The point is using a non OLCP patched Monterey when migrating data into the (iMac12,2+Kepler) system. OCLP can revert root patches from the menu - just take a deeper look into the app, especially hit the patch button from the menu once and read.

I tried to follow the instructions to install Monterey on iMac late 2013, 14,2
Installation went seem to have gone well but now at restart it crashes while booting at:

KextLog : Loading FileSetKC(s)

How can I troubleshoot it?

Unclickable popup-button on first run of Maps is known bug and can be circumvented. Has been discussed here before.
(One solution is to remember where the button pops up at start of Maps (after force quitting i.e.) and rapid-click on that area even before it´s shown. Other solution: Define keyboard shortcut for "enter" and use that temporarily).

UI lag: What you describe hints at unpatched or faulty patch for acceleration. Can you provide screenshots of a) what the OCLP suggests as root-volume patches and b) what the Finder incl. dock looks like on your laggy system?

Is this a Safari 16.0 problem or an OCLP 0.4.11 issue? Has anyone else experienced this?
I have loaded OCLP 0.4.11 3 times with latest Monterey. Safari 15.6.1 runs fine. Safari 16.0 And beta 16.1 will not allow me to sign into certain websites. Others, it will. I am using a MacBook Pro 5.1. I don’t know if it’s OCLP 0.4.11 or the Sarfari version. I am able to use Safari 16.0 on OCLP 0.4.6, so I’m guessing it’s the OCLP 0.4.11

Has someone manage to get safari 16 working properly. As soon as I updated to v.16 eBay and Amazon bugging as hell loading blank page with following error statement " a problem repeatedly occurred with", "this webpage was reloaded because a problem occurred ". By the way, each Safari update comes with this error attributed to Ajax & JavaScript. I deactivated "WebGL via metal " option again in experimental features, but nothing changed. I installed Safari v16.1 beta same error. Likewise, I'm heading up reinstalling OSX Monterey AGAIN (OCLP 0.4.11 , Montererey 12.6). Has this issue been raised on OCLP developer team's GitHub? Thanks

on a mbp 9,1 and 9,2 here…. Monterey 12.6 and latest OCLP.
no issues with safari…..

I think that you’re the only one on here who’s complaining of these particular safari problems.
You might have a hardware issue unrelated OCLP.

if you’re still able to run the Apple hardware test on your machine, that might be worth a try.

on a mbp 9,1 and 9,2 here….

No , i'm not the only one, pay attention to the quotes I am referring to. You might not use safari for Amazon nor eBay, maybe.
No hardware problem found on MacBook Pro 8,1 OCLP 0.4.11

I responded to your note because I use safari with amazon every day both for shopping and for watching videos on prime. No problems here, mate. MacBook pro 9,1 & 9,2 w/ latest OCLP and Monterey 12.6.

I had similar problem with the same error message as the one you describe above using the 9,1 on Catalina, which was a supported OS for this machine, so this might not be an OCLP problem. For myself, I suspect that the, "this webpage was reloaded because a problem occurred” issue happened on Catalina because of a hardware problem or some kind of low-level incompatibility that resulted from upgrading the ram and ssd on these old machines.

I haven’t gotten this error since I upgraded to OCLP and Monterey. I used to get it with Catalina on my 9,1, and this was a supported OS. The solution was to restart the machine, or if it got really bad, I would reinstall Catalina.

Thanks appreciated your input, I have the machine upgraded with SSD and 16Go Ram as well. Indeed, I did perform a reinstallation of Monterey 12.6 when OLCP 0.4.11 came out ;I first updated from 12.5.1 to 12.6 while still on OLCP 0.4.10 through system preferences updating also safari from 15.6 to 16. That's when I had the issue. I reinstalled 12.6 but choose not to update safari to v16 until yesterday... The error came back again. I think I'm good for another round.

You may want to try the Safari Technology Preview which can coexist with Safari, I have problems with pinning tabs in Safari but not in the tech preview version. In my experience, OCLP would not have caused issues with Safari - you may need to clean out plists, cache, etc related to Safari.

Already done , same goes for safari technology 16.1... I'm leaning more towards animations , resizing CSS Issues on Safari.

No , i'm not the only one, pay attention to the quotes I am referring to. You might not use safari for Amazon nor eBay, maybe.
No hardware problem found on MacBook Pro 8,1 OCLP 0.4.11
I have a MBP 8,1 with the latest GitHub OCLP and have issue's as well with safari and certain webpages, some I was able to correct as it was an error with the security token and and to delete it in safari and reopen the page and it worked. I think some had to do with saved passwords.
I just switched to Firefox for others.

The issue I have that is annoying, after several hours of use, my MBP 8,1 just starts to hang and needs a reboot and this never happened before 12.6. After reboot its good for several hours but does need a reboot daily now.
hopefully this issue gets resolved soon.

Try the RC3 12.6.1 available at the mr. macinitosh site? It feels so much better than 12.6;

Thanks for all this work guys and gals! I have some questions... Full disclosure, I did not read the entire thread. I have only read the original posts and scattered other ones.

- Machine is a 2010 iMac11,3 Core i7 with SSD, 12 GB RAM, Radeon 5750, Atheros 9280 WiFi, and BCM5701 Ethernet.

- I want to keep my High Sierra install, as it is problem free. It's the kids that are using this computer, and High Sierra seems to work well for them, since most of their elementary school life is in Chrome anyway. However, now that Monterey and the patcher are very mature, I'd like to install Monterey on an external drive to try it out, and perhaps for the kids to use when they're older. Performance is still more than fine for our usage: Surfing, Mail, Messages, Office, iWork, video streaming, light Photos.

- My latest copy of Monterey is 12.0.1, but I could download a later version with the patcher I guess.

1. Is there a tutorial somewhere for installing on external drives? There is no mention of this in the original post. Or if there is, I missed it. I have an external FireWire 800 enclosure which I could use with an SSD. This runs with reasonable performance. I ran this with High Sierra before finally disassembling the iMac 2010 to install the SSD internally.)

2. Am I correct to think my WiFi won't work? What is the latest version of the patched OS that supports Atheros WiFi?

3. I am under the impression that Radeon 5750 support is occasionally glitchy but mostly works well. Correct?

Mojave and later refuse to install to drives connected via FireWire. After installation you can boot from there if you enable the corresponding option in OCLP.
