Anyway to improve on this? Monterey on Macbook air 2012 using OCLP 2.4. It looks fine on Big Sur. Tried external monitor, airplay, always get these artifacts but only on the widgets, everything else look fine.

I used to have the same issue. What happens is that after the 30 minutes of the Preparing state, the computer starts to show an apple logo with a progressing bar below it (no time count).

THEN, the computer restarts AND you have to have the OPT key pressed so it boots to EFI and then you select the macOS Installer option which is created during the first part of the update.

IF instead of macOS Installer you select the disk where the update should be installed, the installer shows an apple logo with a 5 minutes progress bar and when you get to the OS, the update did not happen.

So, you need to make sure you select macOS Installer (or the other disk which had been created during the first phase of the update.

This is what happened to me and how I solved my problem.

Hi everyone, just finished updating my MBP mid 2012 non retina to macOS Monterey Beta 6 using OCLP 0.2.2. Still needed to use sudo kill in order to enable bluetooth but all works perfect including Safari.

I tried again to install OCLP and after doing so I keep getting kernel panics when trying to use it to boot into the Monterey installer. Before the installer even does anything. I’m on a 2014 MacBook Pro (11,1).
Anyone know why this might be?

EDIT: Kernel panics occur even when trying to boot into my regular startup drive.

Turns out I installed OCLP to my internal drive rather than an external. Started over and got Monterey installed without any signs so far of kernel panics that I got when I tried this a few weeks ago.
I was using Migration Assistant to move things over to my clean install after that fiasco and the computer abruptly shut off for unknown reasons about an hour into the process. Hoping it’s an unrelated fluke, unless anyone has a reason to give me for thinking otherwise.

Migration Assistant is buggy in Monterey.(crashes, resulting in KP after reboot) You should try to migrate data in Big Sur and then do OTA update to Monterey.)

Ah, good to hear that it’s not just me. I’ll maybe have to just restore from my backup and reinstall Monterey over top.

I'm so confused. I managed to get the migration to succeed when I tried again, getting the friendly "okay it worked we're gonna reboot now" screen at the end. However, I continue to encounter kernel panics about half the time when I boot up (using the OCLP EFI on the internal drive), and once the menu bar was gone and I could not bring any windows to the front.
I'm spooked by the kernel panics because I don't want a system that isn't stable, but it sounds weird since I am on a MBP 11,1 that everyone says should be straightforward for OCLP+Monterey.

I will restore from my backup of Big Sur, and perhaps try installing Monterey over top. But, has anyone got any insight into this?

Yes you have to install Big sur from OC USB, restore backup and then run Monterey installer/OTA update from running BS.(did that twice and worked fine)

P.S. Time Machine doesn’t work properly in Monterey, so be careful.

Why don't you install Big Sur + restore your data + try @chris1111 solution? I think you have the same machine used in that thread.

My MBP 11,1 supports Big Sur anyway. Are you suggesting I nuke my internal drive, install Big Sur using OCLP, restore files and then install Monterey over that?

Or, here’s the drives I have and please walk me through the order needed.

- MBP 2014 (runs Big Sur natively) with an internal SSD
- USB backup drive
- USB installer drive (partitioned for installers of Big Sur and Monterey)

What solution do you refer to? Skimming through his post history nothing jumps out to me as obviously what you mean.
