Stock installer but install the latest 0.3.1 OCLP version of OpenCore onto your internal disk in advance.
Reboot and pick the blue OpenCore EFI (CRTL + enter) and than start the USB installer.
Keep a Big Sur TM backup.
I'm on Big Sur 11.6.1 native with my 15" MBP 11,3 (Iris Pro and GT750M) and would like to upgrade to Monterey. From what I gathered so far, everything should work on it, per the guide on the github page!? Other posters had problems with a permanent splash screen on boot a couple pages back in the thread and had to patch the installation though?

How would I go ahead upgrading in place to Monterey? I already prepared a USB stick via OCLP 0.3.1 TUI but now I'm hesitant to go further. Didn't change any patcher settings before building.

Do I need any post install patches?
Is SIP disabled/enabled? And if it's disabled, can it be re-enabled after the upgrade?

I'm currently not able to say what's the correct path forward, since a lot of info seems to be contradicting.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I try vmware fusion 12.2, it's can't open any vm. my model is macbookpro 10,1

Hey,
on my MBP 10,1 I'm able to run a Win10 virtual machine using WMware.

When I started it for the first time after macOS update, I was asked whether the vm was copied or moved. I didn't do anything, I assume that installing Monterey on Big Sur made it look like it was changed somehow. So, I clicked "copied" as suggested.

Anyway, Monterey seems to run pretty good on my machine.

You have an NVIDIA Kepler card, it will need post-install-patching!

This is ok. It will be more easy to install OC onto your main disk. You will be able to delete it from there in case you do not need OC any longer.

Yes, see above!

No, patching needs SIP disabled all the time!

Have not such a Macbook myself. If and only if you get problems on the first boot with Monterey one work around is booting in safe mode and install the post install patches, reboot and check your installation, again.

Prepare a Big Sur TM backup just in case.

Ok. Paranoid/concerned Mac Pro user here.

Finally used OC 0.3.1 to install Big Sur to my 2009 Mac Pro 5,1. Any success stories with Monterey? I really don't want to bork my machine again.

You are welcome. Forgot to mention that after EFI boot up, press Shift key and select your target macOS, this will get you enter the Safe Mode.
Thank you for your help. I hit another roadblock, after I start with cmnd-S and hit space bar, I see the shell terminal app,
1. I open it and enter the dGPU disabler argument
2. I get an error
"nvram" is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or script file.

No, Parallels 16 works ok on Monterey. I have MacBook Air - early 2015, compatible with Monterey
Parallels 16 has "partial", "test" compatibility with Monterey (as its officials told me). Parallels 17 has got the full one. Feel the difference.

Had to resort to createinstallmedia USB install because OTA failed to create macOS installer, twice. USB worked well but the "less than a minute remaining" Apple sight-gag is still in there. ??

With all the effort from the oclp programmers , Monterey even runs on a iMac 24 , early 2009 but without a metal gpu it’s a useless thing. To many glitches and to slow . If someone could tell me what would happen if I plug a gpu metal card from a 2011 iMac or younger into my iMac then I could think about keep this nice machine a bit longer. It really only depends on the gpu , everything else in older macs is very robust…

Currently we had no success with the 24" 2009 and 21.5" 2009 because the internal display is connected via LVDS and not eDP - so one would need a different vBIOS on the card.

But using the cards listed on the thread in my signature will give you full metal support on an external display. One weird solution to use the internal 24" LCD is making it an external display using a converter kit from eBay. Your iMac has a standard MXM port.

Not really familiar with this topic, but in this case you can modify NVRAM argument directly in OCLP EFI config.plist.

Anyone know if there is a patch available for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M gpu? The post install did not seem to cover it.

I can't find a post about my problem. Using Mac Pro 4.1 to 5.1. Used Lo Open Core and all appears working in Mojave. I am offered Monterey as an update but when I try download I immediately get a message that my nework (Ethernet) connection is lost. Works for any site ore other download though.

Hi all,

Monterey 12.0.1 successfully installed in cMP5,1 with OCLP 0.3.0 and running fine except for one thing, am I the only one who doesn't have the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" option in Advanced Bluetooth Preferences (like in Big Sur and others before)?

I didn't have this option in all the Beta versions and I thought it would be there in the final version but no.

So I can't put cMP to sleep anymore because my cat likes to walk on the keyboard and mouse at night... and I find cMP awake almost every morning.

Does anyone know a Terminal command to disable this missing option?
Or a key to set to false in Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist?

I've done a lot of research on the net on this subject but I haven't found anything useful.

Installed Monterey for unsupported Mac (2012 MBP 15" retina) but I noticed i no longer have an external Apple display monitor & HDMI connector not working. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Is there a dedicated thread anywhere for discussion OCLP? I have been using CDF's guide on my 5,1 and have been able to get up through Monterey happening, but I am curious to learn more about OCLP generally...

You need to (post install) patch your system to get Kepler and HD4000 support back.

If this does not help you may add agdpmod=vit9696 to your boot-args.

I have the same machine on Monterey. External monitor is working fine, it's a Dell. Hook up is Mac's Thunderbolt out ---> DisplayPort Adapter -------> monitor's DisplayPort in.

I only use the mac's HDMI output to provide an audio feed to a Pioneer receiver. Since it's working I could probably get video if I plugged the receiver's HDMI output to a TV or monitor, I haven't tried that.

And yes, you do need to apply the post install HD4000 GPU patch.

I am using Mid-2009 MBP(5,5) with Big Sur 11.6 and OCLP v.0.3.1.
I would like to install Monterey 12.0.1 into my MBP with OCLP v.0.3.1.
I want to know if it can actually be used.
I have MBP 5.4. with installed 12.0.1. and for my tasks it is unacceptable. But I appriciate the work of all programmers and want to see progress in they work in the future. I think more fitches could be ported from 12 into 10 or 11 with proper productivity. All "old" our Macs are old only in Apple marketing.

rehkram,

I just reinstalled/applied post-install Volume Patch, Build OpenCore, & Install OpenCore to internal drive. Restarted the computer and still can't get the monitor's DisplayPort for Apple 27" display monitor or LG display (HDMI) to work. I am using OpenCore Legacy Patcher 3.1. I can't figure this out. ANy suggestions?

Yes, but it doesn't see much action.
