How can I manually install Polaris patches in OCLP settings? If that's possible, it will likely be the solution to my problem. And I wouldn't have to attempt a Monterey install
Now I see that the option I thought of is meant for iMacs only - while it would maybe make sense for MacPros as well.

What about booting in safe mode? Holding the shift key while selecting the boot OS in OpenCore used to work for that. purpose. If it boots into the OS in safe mode you should then be able to install the patches using OCLP.

In order to get your Polaris GPU fully supported with native boot screens, you maybe want to check out this new thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/pre-opencore-gop-support-for-efi-era-imacs-and-mac-pros.2378942

You have to run the automatic "Post install root patch" from the OCLP app... I did this after installed on my MacPro and works very well.

I'm a little confused with what happens when installing Ventura on my 2012 Mini. I can install Monterey just fine using OCLP. However if I try to install Ventura I still get the message that there was a problem installing the Update. What update it's referring too? I don't know because it doesn't say.

I went back and did a Catalina Internet Recovery and when I launched Disk Utility, I noticed that I had two partitions. One was for the Main SSD Drive and the second was named Update. Has anyone encountered this problem? Like I said I prepare OCLP for Monterey and Ventura the same way. I used OCLP version 0.6.1

I even tried installing Ventura booting from OCLP and installing it on top of Catalina, same results. I just successfully finished installing Monterey on the 2012 Mini with NO issues. I still can't figure out why Ventura has a problem with my 2012 Mini?

Neither of those two things are the cause of your issues, the problem is only the OCLP compatibility with that graphics card. You think/thought it should be OK because it worked with Catalina, but that is not the case. Ventura has many changes incorporated so the OCLP software has to make a ton of changes. Have you watched the app window as it applies the patches? Even on my iMac 15,1 late 2014 model, which doesn't even need root patches with Monterey, there are so many patches/changes conducted by the OCLP during the root patching process. It is really amazing, the amount of research and work done by the developers!
While I like Ventura, it may be better to try to get Monterey installed on that Mac Pro. Monterey still gets most of the security patches Apple puts out and the amount of patching required must be far less. Have you tried that?
In any case, please do post your results so we can see what happens with a Mac Pro.
Success, (AMD GOP Injection) was the solution. As I mentioned before, I kept the RX 480 as the only gpu in the Mac Pro through out the installation process. With AMD GOP enabled I was finally able to see OCLP Boot Picker (just like I was able to see with the GT 120), and continue the installation.

One small problem was the Initial setup UI for the os when the first setup began after the installation was complete, was extremely slow with the Strix RX 480;
So I ended up taking the 480 out and installed the GT 120 back in again to complete the initial setup process (personal info, password, etc). That's the first picture. Then I swapped the GT 120 with the RX 480 (last picture)

I then downloaded OCLP, and applied the patches to my main install drive (specifically went into OCLP (Developer Settings) once again and enabled AMD GOP Injection. That's the first picture. And applied the patches to my Ventura install drive with only the 480 inside. And restarted. Now I did not need to boot from the OCLP flas drive any more I can boot from my main Ventura install drive now. (For those wondering)

Once I got back into my Ventura install OCLP asked me to apply Polaris Patches and USB 1.1 patches, (that's the 2nd picture). [ This will require an active internet connection as OCLP will have to download the patches ]. I clicked ok and OCLP downloaded and applied the patches. And then I restarted.

Once the system restarted I was in a fully functional Ventura Install in my 5,1 (4,1 flashed to 5,1) Mac Pro with my Asus Strix RX 480. That's the 3rd picture.

Everything works, Mac Pro plays 4k video on you tube and stage manager works aswell 4th picture.

That's great! A long road to success indeed, so don't mess with it (including installing new versions of OCLP). As long as it works with no major issues, that is well enough indeed.

Try to create a partition in your SSD dedicated only to the OCLP installer like around 30GB in size. Then try to install Ventura from it and see if it work. Make sure to prepare the installer with all the requirements that it's need it for OCLP.

For my 2012 Mini, I cloned my Catalina partition to an external USB Samsung T7 SSD drive and setup the OCLP Mac Ventura installer on a separate USB flash drive and all installed with no issues so you should be able to go from Catalina to Ventura if that is easier. I generally followed the instructions here:

When I went back to my old Catalina partition to check for some other files, I did notice the volume called Update so that is not an issue as far as I can tell.

Has anybody been able to upgrade from Monterey to Ventura on MacPro5,1 (or MacPro4,1 patched 5,1) with an RX6600 XT (fixed EFI) or do I need to do the full install? I am aware of the USB 1.1 issue and have a USB 3.0 controller with keyboard/mouse plugged in to it.

This looks promising... It can probably be plugged in on one of the outside plugs for keyboard/mouse and route one of the extension cables inside for the BT module of BCM94360CD...

Another find for external ports... You could plug one of these on each external USB ports... LOL

I'm afraid there's no solution for the RX 5000 or RX 6000 series (the devs are working on it though) right now you can only use Polaris Series or Navi Series graphics cards.

I would advise against using the 6600 anyways as it's only (8x Pcie lanes (gen 4)) instead of a full bus (16 pcie lanes) so you'll be stuck with (8x (Pcie Gen 2 lanes)) with a theoretical maximum bandwidth of about (40 Gb/s or 4 GB/s) realistic bandwidth will be even less (around 3.6 GB/s). This is because all Mac Pros 3,1 to 5,1 only have Pcie 2.0 16x lanes for graphics.

I suggest getting GPUs with 16x Pcie lanes ie. Polaris RX 480/580 or Vega 56/64/Radeon VII or wait for Navi 5000/6000 support to be added by the devs and then get either a RX 5700/5700 XT or get a (RX 6700/6700 XT/6800/6800XT or higher). Any of these GPUs will give you a full Pcie bus (16x Pcie Gen 2 lanes) with a theoretical maximum bandwidth of (80 Gb/s or 8 GB/s) realistic bandwidth of around 7.4 GB/s.

[Realistic bandwidth is derived after error correction overhead]

It’s there is a workaround to fix the black screen issue when Ventura boot? Do I have to boot in safe mode?
I had the same black screen
I am using 0.6.1 Macpro 5.1 with Radeon RX 580 8GB and after installed Ventura in a clean SSD it boots to a black screen. How do I fix this?
I had the same problem with an AMD RX 580 RX 8GB Pulse.

I partly solved the problem booting with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120, applying root patches several times and then booted again with the RX 580.

The RX 580 is now running without acceleration because the necessary root patches cannot be applied due to a dependency problem:

rebuilding release collections: boot, system
rebuilding release collections:
boot kernel collection
system kext collection
Failed to build release collection:
Unable to resolve dependencies:
'com.apple.kext.AMDRadeonX4000' names a dependency on
'Com.apple.iokit.IOAcceleratorFamily2', which was not found

That is an interesting idea which I may try the next time. I installed Monterey on my 2012 Mini again So i’m not going to mess with it right now and I was able to download the latest macOS Safari 16.3 update via System Updates.

Hopefully, my 2012 mini will accept macOS 14 later this year and I can bypass Ventura altogether.

Hey guys I would suggest updating OCLP to 0.6.1, the latest one, and enabling the AMD GOP Injection patches from inside OCLP Developer Settings and repatching your Ventura Drive. This should give basic display functionality with RX 580.
Then once your back in Ventura with just your RX 580 OCLP will auto prompt you to install the Polaris patches, (you need an active internet connection here as OCLP will need to download the patches) you restart after OCLP is done applying the patches.

After you restart you should have full graphics acceleration with your RX 580

P.S. I would also suggest (reverting the previous) post install patches (if you post install patched your Ventura Drive already with the GT 120) before you enable AMD GOP Injection in OCLP Developer Settings

Lucky you!! I've got a MacPro 4.1 to 5.1 firmware upgraded with 12 GB RAM, Radeon RX580 Nitro 8 GB. First I had some issues installing Ventura because, after a fresh install, the screen flashed all the time when getting to the logging screen. I was able ( I don't know how ) to introduce the password in one of those flashes, get to the Desktop, update the patchers for AMD Polaris and finally get an usable computer again. But after 3 days, the MacPro started to freeze every x minutes ( around 15-20 minutes ). And then the computer didn't come back. I'm trying to reinstall Monterey with an external USB but when it gets to 13 minutes the computer hangs again. I'm afraid Ventura has mess with the hardware somehow. Fist time I have to regret for using OCLP. I think it isn't mature enough for the release, at least for the older MacPros. Yes, I know it's always a risk, and may be I have been too lucky during the last 6-7 years using Open Core. Thankfully I bought a MacStudio few months ago in anticipation for this to happen.
Finally my problem was the RAM and the Sonnet USB 3.0 card I had installed. Seems that I had a RAM module incorrectly installed and also the Sonnet USB 3.0 card seems not to be supported by the last OCLP. It has been working fine with Monterey but it was preventing my computer to boot. The RAM position wasn't an issue with Monterey neither. After reinstalling the RAM and removing the card, the computer is running correctly for at least 3 of days now.

Not sure what could be the problem then. It worked fine for me and so far Ventura is running well. I'm wondering if there is some device connected to your Mac that is causing an issue. I have two USB high speed hubs with four ports each used by various external drives as well as two Firewire drives and an LG Blu-ray UBB burner and all are recognized and working.

Facetime video surely works but photobooth will not work. The developers of OCLP has already listed the issues in the troubleshoot page
I can't find anything at all about it on the github site, perhaps you could post a link?

The GOP injection is only useful when your graphics card doesn't have a GOP driver in the VBIOS.

Those using 6.0/ 6.1 on mid 2014 pro I know there was comments a while ago about the black screen logging in and the MacBook thinking it was flat earlier versions solved the problem for me by switching off power management in oclp but now with newer versions even disabling power management I’m logging in on Ventura 13.2 and even with 96% battery it’s shutting down and saying it’s flat if I boot plugged in then unplug and shutdown I can boot straight backup unplugged without using the plug but if it’s shutdown say for a few hours it will fail until unplugged again didn’t have the issue till the oclp 6.x versions going to downgrade oclp back in the hope that helps are the people that had this issue still having it? Thanks. (13.2 was running fine with earlier versions of oclp for me).

Update: working better with Februarys oclp 6.2

Just a Logitech wireless keyboard with trackpad. The exact same setup I used to successfully install Monterey using OCLP. But if there is a weird problem to be encountered, surely it's going to come looking for me. For the last year I have been dealing with my 4th Gen Apple TV (2015) not being able to install OTA updates, even .1 releases. I had to hookup the ATV and do a restore from my Mac and install the entire OS. The problem was still there with tvOS 16 and then all of a sudden the problem went away.

The 0.6.2 nightly has been updated, and dated 2-8-2023.
It is much improved compared with the previous version, and now redoes the Post Install Patches error free on my iMac 15,1. The prior version borked the entire install, but this one works great.:):) I feel it is a keeper worthy of release.

Has anyone been able to try this new nightly with an iMac 10,1.

This device would stall after post patches on reboot - I’ve posted the screenshot from verbose mode previously and confirmed with others with same hardware.

I’ve reverted back to Monterey 12.6.2 and all is good in the world again…

Any news on these old crusty imac 10,1’s would be good to hear

Another find for external ports... You could plug one of these on each external USB ports... LOL

I patched the firmware of my RX 6600 XT today and replaced my RX 580 Pulse with it. I could boot my 5,1 in Ventura but the card was not properly recognised and therefore had no acceleration and no display resolution options. Rootpatching did nod help because OCLP 0.6.1 was not set up properly for the RX 580 in the first place. So, I am now starting the installation again.

That’s weird because I have exactly the same card in my flashed MacPro 5,1 and have Ventura 13.2 without issue. OCLP 0.61 prompt me to install the patches after successfully installation of the OS and I have now full video acceleration and I can run 4k videos in YouTube.
