Monterey doesn't officially support any 2013 iMac. Catalina was the "official" end of the road for iMac 14,1-14,3 models. The oldest iMac with Monterey support is the Late 2015 model.

Thank goodness for OCLP!!
You are completely right. Six years, then.

Hello everyone, I have a small problem with the installer. On my external USB SSD, I have two partitions.. One for the installer patched with OCLP 0.4.7 and one for the actual installation.. so for the system. My MBP9.2 starts the installer, but then after selecting the drive (volume) where Ventura is to be installed, this message comes up. See picture..

How can I get this message skipped ?

WiFi and Safari are already working for a test.

Yes, same here when I installed Ventura on my supported Macbook 12" 2017. You have to input the user and password of the administrator of the internal drive.

Enter admin user name and password. There is no way to skip this. Had the same request when installing beta 2 on top of admin 1. Saw this the very first time when updating Ventura b1 -> b2.

I wanted to install Beta 2 on an empty volume right away. That means I first have to install beta 1 and then beta 2 on the volume?

The Ventura beta 2 full installer is available here:

Just run the InstallAssistant.pkg and it will copy the full installer into the /Applications folder (from where it can be moved elsewhere, of course)…

There is a Big Sur installation on disk with an admin user and admin password, tried this?

The text box does not say: Enter your Ventura admin user and password!
The external HDD attached to my iMac 13,1 is used exclusively for Beta software installations and running Linux installations in VirtualBox. There is no data on the drive and back-ups are not made. Monterey came to an end with the password loop while attempts to install Venture landed in the Recovery screen. Now the HDD does not boot at all. Trying to install Monterey brings the message that the system cannot be downgraded. Trying to install Venture brings up the password screen, but none of the admin passwords that have been used in recent weeks will unlock the installation.
Will reformatting the SDD in Disk Utility solve the problem or will there still be requests for information that is not available?

I´ve just done this yesterday with Beta2 on an external blank drive attached to a MacBook7,1.
Internal drive still on Monterey, and the pwd prompt accepted the entries for that existing macOS.
If you start from absolute scratch (no macOS whatsoever preinstalled) and can´t get around the pwd check, I´d suggest to either start with Beta 1 or really go back to Monterey first and install Beta2 on top. Should work that way...

Lars, thanks for the advice. Apple could have made it clearer that the authentication could be provided by a suitable user id, irrespective of macOS version or installation disk.
Ventura will not install on iMac 13,1 or 13,2 models, so I'm going back to Monterey for the moment.

I have a 2012 Mini. Will this work on that Mac? Also is this the same as Open Core Legacy Patcher? I have never installed an unsupported version of macOS. That‘s why i’m asking these questions?

First read and understand content of page 1, pls.
Patchers are not yet ready for running Ventura as a stable working system on unsupported machines.
In addition: If you´re new to OC and OCLP business, first get experience and set up a macOS like Monterey with it.

Maybe even Big Sur...

MacBook Pro 7,1 verified as Ventura-bootable, added to page 1 list.
The GF320M shows up with full 256MB framebuffer already, that helps a bit to counter the lack of GPU accel. Nice!

edit: Also checked the 15" MacBook Pro 5,1 (2008!). It booted, but due to lack of USB 2.0 drivers, I had to hook up the harddisk to the internal SATA connection - only to find that a USB3.0 expresscard had to be used to operate the mouse/keyboard externally. This way I could log in right to the Finder, tested some basics (dock, system settings, about this Mac etc.). Seems as stable as other systems, that is: Ok´ish for this early patch level.

edit: MacBook Pro 8,2 (i7 15") and 8,3 (i7 17") also booting, including oob USB support and internal trackpad/kbd. working. The MBP8,3 needs several attempts to login without WindowServer crashing. Might be related to the dual GPU config.

Hi everyone, for a test I have installed Ventura Beta 2 on an external SSD on my 2013 MBPr 13" (integrated Intel graphics only), using the 0.4.7 OCLP EFI bootloader. It runs fine as a dual-boot but screen resolution is wrong and no gestures on trackpad work.

Can someone with ample patience please advise how to identify the kexts needed for internal display and trackpad from my functioning Big Sur partition, and how to inject/patch them into the Ventura system?

[ Assume a fairly rudimentary state of knowledge about all this stuff on my end, cheers! ;D ]

At this point I think Monterey might be a fitting end for my 2015 13inc. I don’t think Intel support will last much longer than another 3 versions the only edge case being Mac Pro. I will still keep an eye out but I think the killer here is Ventura basically requiring a Metal 3 capable GPU. At the end if the day 2015 did me good, got a ring screen dent (look it up I think dust or whatever causes them) but otherwise has survived (cleaned it out dw) two drink spillages, ofc the first time I get a Mac is the first time a spill **** on a Laptop. Did me well through Uni and now spends most of its time filling in for my iPad when I, nit using that and other more computery mobile tasks.

Compared to my iPhone 7, which especially since the pandemic since I’m hardily using phone or going out as much, the 2015 has a long time left. For me the 7 still has everything I need and is responsive but alas give it and year maybe two and boom no App support means your **** outta luck. However Monterey will be good for a longggg time. Heck even though Safari is long dead, the latest version of Chrome will run on 10.11. Sure Apple software will fade but heck install open source stuff, use Homebrew to update bash, ffmepeg all sorts. Compared even to PPC I think these later generation Intel macs will long outlive them for software simply because of x86. So I’ll accept Monterey. Again Monterey will last wayyy long than either my iPhone 7 or Series 3 watch are going too for useful applications.

I’ll go to Ventura if the Graphics can be solved but something in my gutt tells me GPU acceleration on Ventura is not gonna be an easy case to crack. Anyway I’m happy, I’ll go with the machine for as long as I can, those full sized USB ports are still wonderful to have and Native HDMI out. Linux also will still fly in this puppy, one day I may move to Apple Silicon but not yet.

I thought that there are no problems with porting metal capable gpu drivers to ventura. I dont know though.
Correct me if im wrong please, but I do believe that Monterey runs on Metal 2, and since Metal 1 GPUs are totally fine with it, then Metal 3 shouldnt be much of an issue for older GPUs.

The fine print on developer.apple.com/metal states the following about Metal 3 supported hardware:

Code:
Metal 3 is supported on the following hardware

iPhone and iPad: Apple A13 Bionic or later
Mac: Apple silicon (M1 or later), AMD Radeon Pro Vega series,
AMD Radeon Pro 5000/6000 series, Intel Iris Plus Graphics series,
Intel UHD Graphics 630

Theo, you have literally know idea what Apple has changed during the last two years to avoid such an easy walk in the park…

Well the 12" 2017 retina MacBook uses Intel HD Graphics 615 and supports Ventura, and that is a full generation older than the UHD 630 listed as a minimum requirement.

So either Ventura doesn't require Metal 3, or Metal 3 is supported on more hardware than Apple has listed.
